Rogue Squadron: Throw

OOC Date: March 18, 2021
Location: Munto Codru
Participants: Jax Greystorm, Zandra naMuriel, Karas Darkwing, Zul Gradnk, Callax Dalso, Tallie Lintra

The New Republic Naval Officer Lt. Cad Yevos was standing in front of the Rogue briefing room. He looks around for a moment offering the lipless smile of a Duros. Then he looked at the screen. "Rogue Squadron, this mission comes down from the top. The longer the fight on Codru goes on the harder it is to get supplies to ground forces. That being said, Rogue Squadron will be providing escort for the GR-75, The Home Front, from here on Chandrila to Codru. We've coordinated with the Fleet in system. They are going to launch an attack a minute before you arrive in a feint. Once you're in system, escort the Home Front to it's destination and then exit system. Our concerns are if there's an Interdictor between here and Cordu and once you've made orbit. Any Imperial forces on patrol." The holographic projections bring up these images. "Unfortunately, as I haven't mentioned. We're lining this thing up, we have to fly through some anti-air guns. It should be at night so that will help with the guns." He mumbles, "I hope." Then there's a wave of his hand, "Anyway, you have the assignments Rogue. Prove 'em you guys are the best. May the Force be with you."

It was a boring flight through hyperspace taking far more time than anyone would have preferred. Jax had been meditating almost the entire time. His astromech working on the things that Exine does. Things we probably don't want to know. When Rogue 9's time chimes, it is time to re-enter into regular space. As promised the fleet in system had committed elements to attack the First Order fleet in a hectic running battle. Jax stays in formation as he reaches over to touch the picture of Sesti and the boys. Then moments later Rogue Squadron and Home Front are breaking orbit. The First Order hasn't engaged yet.

The nap that Commander Lintra grabbed in hyperspace was refreshing, even if it was in a flightsuit, sitting up. Fiver left her alone to enjoy benign dreams of skin-diving on Chandrila. She had asked Fiver to wake her ten minutes before arrival to clear any lingering cobwebs. If only she could have a cup of tea.

This would be a rough escort duty. All sides of the conflict, the invaded, the New Republic protecting the routes into Mon Calamari, and, seemingly, the FO was wearing down. Over encrypted coms, she sends a last word to the brave Rogue pilots, <<Check in, Rogue. First priority is protecting /Home Front/ as much as I would like to shoot down every TIE that comes after us. We have to get these supplies in. Be alert, Rogue. We will have a lot of company. Good luck.">>

Boring is good. Timely is good. It gives Callax time to meditate - yes, yes, Callax meditates, don't look /entirely/ shocked. Meditation on strategy, tactics, that little black number down they saw in a shop window on the way to the Rogue hangar, the fact they'll need a new vibro-oscillator in their fighting knife from all the use it's been getting lately. You know. Just Callax things.

But arriving in system, Callax checks over the boards and arms the guns upon making the transition to realspace. << Rogue Leader, this is Ten, >> Callax calls over the squadron channel, adjusting slightly to get a little more comfortable in the more compact confines of the E-wing's cockpit. Callax is tall for a pilot, after all. << Indicators green and guns are powered. I await your command. >> Jax said once that Callax approached their work like a craftsman; more and more, Callax is starting to find that same professionalism deliberately for themselves. Time to go to work.

Well the trip through hyperspace was beyond BORING! Still Karas didn't mind it so much, the briefing provided them much needed information. The trip wasn't one Karas wasn't used to. He listened to music and worked on his playlist before things were to kick off, he then managed to get a bit of sleep with some smooth akin to Jazz music played. Spark being his dj a bit as they glided through hyperspace. But when the alarm that they were going to exit came on, Karas shifted and stretched.

As his fighter reverted back into real space, he could see the battle happening. <<Rogue 2 ready.>> is all he says. Upon hearing Tallie he grins, <<Will do Rogue Leader.>> he says as he listens to Callax report in, he sees Rogue 9 as well and 12. A grin on his face as his squadmates were coming out of hyperspace.

Zandra also meditated throughout the hyper trip. Once arrived, her a wing forms up and she calls, <<Rogue 5 here, ready to go. Engaging sensors and checking out what can be sensed. >> She then goes quiet as she suits her actions to words, letting the A wing's sensor suite hopefully be of use. She's got no pictures and no droid with her, but there's a calmness to the A wing pilot that has been earned over the months of flying with Rogue, among other things. << May the force be with us,>> she adds softly.

It was night as the Lt. Commander had promised and Rogue Squadron was in the defensive formation as they made there way through the night sky. The mountains and the jungles of the planet beflow passed under them. The Captain of the Home Front briefly appeared in holographic blue in Tallie's cockpit, <Commander Lintra, this is Captain Hornus Greystorm of the Home Front. > The blue figure appeared to be a male twi'lek. . < We've got ten (10) sensor contacts coming in formation. The energy signature and formation indicate First Order Fighter Craft. We would appreciate some assistance. >

Jax's s-foils were extended as he flew in formation with the others. < Rogue 9 here. Everything is green. > Then Exine starts chattering about incoming.

Assistance indeed. Tallie flips open the com contact, projecting a view of the T-85 and her Rogue Helmet with the letters, DA in Aurubesh clearly visible. <<"Good sensors on you. We are picking them up now.">>

She sends telemetry to the Squadron. After a moment studying the incoming enemy, Fiver whistles. TIE/SFs. Of course. <<"We copy that Captain Greystorm. We interpret the signatures as TIE/SF they have a rear facing heavy laser turret, giving them a slightly different profile. We'll get you downstairs, Captain. May the Force be with you.">>

Down below the occasional blur of light from a village illuminates the darkness as they drop into atmosphere and leave a mountain range behind them.

<< Ten here, >> Callax says as the enemy contacts spring up upon their E-wing's sensor scope, enigmatic pinpoints of electric Christmas red against the dark green display. << Enemy fighters are coming in fast, classic interception spread. Looks like they're weighting to our left flank in an attempt to cut us off early. >> While the input isn't as dramatic as Tallie's, Callax sends it over to their fellow pilots to assist them in meeting the charge -- even as they're pouring on the speed and moving in to do that very thing themselves. Ten punches forward, the E-wing's triple heavy cannon blazing brightly. Though the ship is faster and more maneverable than Callax's customary T-85, its heavy guns fire more slowly; but they're more than familiar with it from their Resistance days, and so while its guns would be a challenge for most, Callax is usually able to score a hit. Not so this time, though. "Babo dear, check the targeting and recompute." It's as close to a curse about accuracy as one will get from Callax, but there it is. Next go around...

Here comes trouble! Meaning... there are things to be fired at for green Twi'Leks! Let's show them how well she can fly! It isn't her fault TIEs tend to be stupidly great at dodging.

Zandra gets the data feed, and she punches her throttle, sending the Z wing Zzzzziiippppping ahead. She partners up with Zul, waiting for the other pilots attack run, and then making her own. She targets right into that dodge that the tie takes, in order to get away from Zul. << I can use jammers, >> she puts in, not hitting them, as they do indeed impact their own coms as well.

Looking at his sensors and looking out the canopy towards the intercept course the TIE/sf's and he takes a breath and looks to his friends fighters. Karas lets out a breath, "Here we go Spark. I will make sure to get everyone home." he says. Spark toodles at him and he chuckles and Karas flips the switch and the S-Foils of the T-85 opens. <<Here we go, everyone pair up and lets' do this.>> he says as he pulls back on the stick and his fighter rises a bit and as he does Karas moves his fighter up so that he's not too far from Home Front, and he picks a target and fires at his target. The red energy blast miss their mark, "Alright this is going to be tough." he grumbles a bit.

The FOF data starts reporting the ties as Xesh Squadron. The ties ignoring the pilots of Rogue Squadron as the come in at a sharp attack angle denying Rogue Squadron or the most of it from hitting the Squadron. The astromechs start to report word of targeting computers targeting the defenseless Home Front.

Jax goes, < I got you Boss.> Rogue 9 targeting Xesh lead and pulling the trigger. Then three energy spears hit the tie fighter causing it's shields to quiver.

Zul Gradnk cheers through her comms as Zandra moves to help her, shooting yet another round <<"YES! YOU CAN'T DODGE FOREVER!">> she shouts as she hits. But, time to watch for fire may be returned again!

The FO is canny, patrolling the skies above where they know the New Republic is entrenched. The fight is on within moments of dipping deeper into the atmosphere. From the safety of their sleeping harnesses, the fight above the Codru-ji is distant thunder and light as they fly at supersonic speeds, escorting the vital supply ship.

The Leader of the incoming TIE/Sfs flies in from a difficult angle. Tallie flips the X-Wing and fires, narrowly missing her adversary but bringing herself into line for a heavy barrage of lasers. The X-Wing twirls on its axis, dodging. The familiar lurid green of lasers blazes over the T-85's canopy, setting off alarms.

Bleeping dismally, Fiver begins repairs on the shields as Tallie brings them back to position, flanking the /Home Front./ The targeting reticle quickens its bleep as they home in on the Leader of the enemy flight. Red lances through the night, obliterating the TIE's port wing, a secondary explosion blooms into death as it drops without control to the ground below.

Another salvo loosed from Rogue Ten's heavy guns, yet its target still evades it. "Starting to remember why I switched to an X," Callax murmurs to themselves, pausing to narrow their eyes as Babo whistles over the intercom. "Yes well you just recompute again, since you've got time for sass." Coming around for another pass, now, Callax executes a corkscrew dive upon the enemy ships once more. "Third time's the charm, right?"

Rogue 2 keeps ahead and above Home Front, the F/O pilots are doing what he would expect them to do. He closes his eyes for a moment and he turns up the music a little more and he opens his eyes and he sees the undermount laser cannon from Xesh 2 fire at him. The T-85 tilts and the energy blast flies between the wings of the X-Wing. THough by doing this, it puts Rogue 2 in a favorable position and hearing the target lock, Karas presses the trigger and his fighter's lasers fire, lighting up the nights sky peppering Xesh 2.

Karas glances back at Home Front, then back ahead. "We have to take these guys down faster. Spark keep me posted on the enemy fighters that are lightly to heaevily damaged and feed that data to the rest of the squadron." Karas commands his droid.

Communication just goes down as a jammer gets thrown and the ties go on the offensive, the turrets of the Tie/Sf now targeting the Home Front. The Ties ignoring the fighters of Rogue Squadron and buzzing around the Freighter. There's no sesnor reading on how the ship is doing. Though the scorched hull plattign seems to indicate thingss aren't going good for the freighter.

Jax lines up on one of the ties. He opens fire and shoots at it. "Exine, any clue on who I just hit. And how far are we from our destination?" Then the droid beeps at him, "Fair enough. No idea on the target. 2 clicks? Wait wasn't there ain't air guns about 2 clicks out?"

After sending a pre-determined signal to Violet, the battle changes shape; the jamming signal sends the Squadron back to pre-tech flying. The cockpit is strangely silent without the targeting computer beeps. Atmosphere whistles through the s-foils as Tallie dodges a barrage of lasers, not directed at her. Light dances over the surface of the /Home Front's/ shields, Tallie counts as more than ten direct hits take them out, leaving scorch marks on the hull that will be visible in daylight if the ship makes it to the ground.

Only the glare of the enemy's afterburners give Tallie a target. She squeezes the trigger but sees nothing but the flare of lasers directed at the prized transport.

Firing away, the heavy guns still meet no purchase; Callax grits their teeth in frustration, especially when the shields on /Home Front/ are stripped away and sparks begin flying from the wounds cut into its hull. "Come on, damn you," Callax mutters to the crate around them, "Come on!"

No coms... meaning the computer is off. But nothing Zul can't handle, opening fire with a grin. It makes it more exciting! And now there is an AA battery firing, challenging her skills in dodging... she loves flying! <<One TIE down!"

They needed to break the F/O pilots and he wanted to do what he could, <<I'm about to do something stupid, get ready. I'm going to try to break up their formation>> he calls into tact net for the squadron. Pushing the throttles forward, Karas is pressed into the pilot's couch and as he is pushed, his hands grip the controls of his fighter tightly. He was going after the fighter he's been dancing with, and once in range he fires, though as he does he miscalcualtes his firing angle and watches his shots streak past.

Rogue 2 continues flying towards the Xesh squadron and as he does, Karas let's out a breath. Flying for Rogue Squadron was always a dream of his and he's known the battles they fought and seen plenty of footage and he was going to do what he could to help the squadron and the Home Front and he rolls through the formation in a attempt to break their formation.

Hoping that the jam has broken the target locks, even as the enemy TIES fire at the baby they're trying to shepherd in, Zan releases the jam and goes after Besh 2, firing at that target, and managing to hit and start bringing the shields down. <<Jamming off - I can jam again if it will help.>> It's not much, and it probably didn't help much, but Zan continues to do what she can. << Targetting 2, right behind you, 12. >>

The anti-air guns fill the night sky with blaster fire. The hull of the Home Front takes the majority of the hits and external cargo containers explode causing other containers to rain from the sky and crash to the ground below. The Tie Pilots of Xesh squadron are confused as Karas breaks into their formation and half of the squadron go chasing the X-wing pilot. The other half firing on the Home Front. The freighter dangles in the sky and starts to smoke. Then communication is back. The sound greeting Rogue Squadron is that of the base's communication officer. < Rogue Squadron and Home Front. We have you on scopes. Opening fire on hostiles. Get to the barn as quick as you can. > Then the sky lights up another way as ground to air fire from New Republic forces go up this time with precision beginning to target the Ties.

Jax finds himself with a bead on Xesh 4. The pilot pulling the trigger and strippign shields off the Tie fighter and leaving it in a barely damaged fighter.

Sound fills the cockpit as Violet stops jamming. Without consultation, the experienced Rogue pilots target the TIE's firing on the precious shuttle. Darkwing's move reminds Tallie of a deadly predator dropping into the middle of a herd of Bantha.

From the ground, orange fire is added to the blaze of green and red lasers being exchanged. <<"Cut jamming. Check for target lock, Violet. If they lock, jam!"">> Rogue Leader shakes hard as they fly into flack and then get sideswiped by heavy cannon.

<<"We copy that ground. We're coming in hot. Emergency crews should be on standby.">> Switching channels, <<"/Home Front/ stay with us. We're almost there.">>

On the run, Tallie makes several wild shots at one of the TIEs, missing but determined to keep them at a distance from the damaged transport.

The transport isn't dead yet - so thank goodness for that. Another salvo of heavy lasers go wide, however, and Callax's perfect teeth are now grit in silent, stony rage as frustration floods them like a burning tide. Banking left, then right, they do not manage to avoid a blast from one of the departing fighters -- but at least Babo is able to path the damage done. Certainly not their best outing.

Zan's A wing aileron rolls and she dodges the flak from below as well as any laser fire from the TIEs. She gets a green light as she's flying and fires, trying to give the TIEs a scolding they'll never forget. She misses, but again, she's trying to keep them off the freighter, and so long as they're dodging her fire and not firing at the freighter that's all that counts. <No locks detected, >> she adds in, just in case. She's checking, she's definitely keeping an eye on that.

The formation broke and Karas grins a little bit and he pulls back on the yoke starting to perform a loop. As he does this he notices green laser blasts sticthing behind him, and he slows enough to pull the loop tighter and as he dives, one of the TIEs manages to get a glancing shot on the body of Rogue 2. Karas grunts as his fighter takes the hit and the g's still pushing him back into his seat. Karas pulls back on the stick and levels out and he banks the fighter to the right and and gives chase after Xesh 2.

"Sorry, you're going down, not my people." he says as he hears the lock tone go off and red energy lances slam hard into the TIE destroying it. Karas hears the comms for them to get out of dodge, and flipping the switch to close the S-Foils, he begins diving to help cover the Home Front.

The fire of the ground emplacements make the remaining members of Xesh Squadron turn and run. They knew they were out gunned and out manned." The Home Front listing to the side and now smoking heavily as it goes in for a landing that might be more crash than landing. Though the GR-75 has made its way to it's destination, almost whole. Surely those lost cargo containers weren't that important.

Captain Hornus Greystorm appears again holographically in front of Tallie. "Commander, I didn't think we were going to make it. Thank you. I think you're squadron's Jaming and tactical disrution saved us. May the Force be with you."

Jax and Zandra flew in formation trying to take out Xesh Four. Jax kept trying to take a shot at the target. The pilot kept dancing out of the way of his shots. He looks over at the cockpit of the other jedi. < I don't know if I should recruit this guy to the order or try to keep blowing them up. Well try to anyway.>
