The Mysterious Tooth
OOC Date: 11 March, 2016
Location: The Blue Light - Corellian District, Nar Shaddaa
Participants: Rax Vaelus, Narsai Ordo, Galak Varga, Oozlevort and Maeve Zavir
A few steps lead up through the doorway into this tavern in the Corellian District. Once inside one will immediately be bombarded by smells of smoke, people and even food. The sensory perceptions are not let down there though. Conversation also fills the air within this watering-hole's walls. There is a long bar along the back wall, furthest from the entrance, tables where patrons rest and booths on either sides of the tables.
Off to the right of the main entrance is a small set of stairs that lead up into a mid-level area where more tables are setup, but these are designed for the use of Sabacc or other games of chance. This is one of the most liveliest bars in the Corellian district, anyone who's anyone on Nar Shaddaa often comes in here.
Sitting at the bar of the Blue Light, Rax has an empty plate in front of him, and half a mug of spiked blue milk. He's just lounging, not doing anything interesting yet. He is, however, looking over a strange tooth on a long cord.
Mae eyes the odd looking tooth that Rax, too, is eyeing. "You know, a few moments with the right equipment and I can nail down age, gender, species, hell I can even discern what type of food that tooth was sunk into last?" She shakes her head briefly before signaling for a refill from the bartender. "Also, that blue milk looks disgusting."
Blinking at the Doctor, Rax turns slowly to regard her. "Kath Hound. Probably about 4000 years ago. I'm guessing a sentient creature of some kind. As for how old it was at the time, or gender, I couldn't tell you." He gestures with the necklace, holding the leather thong it's on. "This necklace is important somehow....but I can't discern why."
The door of the Blue Light is pulled open and in steps Galak Varga. He is bedecked in his light armor this evening, and only giving a cursory glance around the establishment, he moves over toward the bar. Leaning against it, he motions with a hand and waits until the bartender makes it toward him, "A glass of Corellian whiskey, if you have any." He slips sideways onto a stool, and props his elbows on the bar top before him as he awaits the glass of amber liquid that is finally slid his way.
"So why are these Kath Hounds so special that it's worth you pondering over?" Mae wonders as she leans back, one hand curled around the tumbler of what is most certainly NOT spiked blue milk. "And what does it have to do with anything else we are currently invested in?" she wonders as the door to the tavern is tugged open again, this time to admit the armored form of Galak Varga to whom she sends a warm smile before adding, "You aren't really going to wear that thing, are you?"
Narsai steps into the Blue Light for the second time today, Narsai comes walking in again before shrugging her shoulders. "Kath hound? Most of those things died out didn't they?" she comments while stepping but behind the other Explorers, her usual armor on her form and her helmet tucked under one arm.
Smirking over at Maeve, Rax gestures with the necklace, "Because this was found on Dantooine, in the ruins of the Jedi Academy there. Only I didn't find it in the Academy, if you get my meaning. But there seems to be nothing special about it." Looking to Narsai, Rax just shrugs, "They still live on Dantooine... I got attacked by a pack of them there. The Alpha was a big, nasty, mutated thing... But this tooth was found near a Jedi's mummified corpse, along with a datapad. The datapad's been deciphered." Rax motions with the bronzed tooth. "This is still a mystery."
Oozlevort sits at the bar, slurping a blue concoction of narcotic spice liqueur through a sealed straw that attaches to his breathing mask. The Gand is pondering things and enjoying his high.
Galak turns, glancing toward Maeve and then picking up his glass and heading across to join her. "Hello, Doctor," he says with a grin. His eyes shift toward Rax and he dips his head, "Vaelus." On to Narsai, "Narsai, good to see you again." He takes a drink from his whiskey and then says, "How are we this evening?"
Glancing over her shoulder to smile up at Narsai, "Exactly, I thought most of them did," Mae remarks before nodding slowly at rax. "Save for the ones that think you're tasty and a potential chew toy, of course. Why do you think that the bronzed tooth is anything more than a sentimental souvenir that the deceased jedi carried for ornamental or potential fashion sense with some antiquated cultural reference?" she wonders before scooting the tray in front of her to the side to make room for Galak's drink on the bar beside hers. "Hey Galak."
A shrugging of the Mandalorian's shoulders and she stops forwards, closer now. "The datapad you were gonna show me and then took to Kirk-what's-his-face?" Mae's comment earns a nod from Narsai. "She's got a point. It could just be a hunting trophy, or a tourist trinket from a long time ago. Not everything in the galaxy holds a great secret, even if it was important to someone else."
Rax nods once. "Varga." Then he shrugs to Maeve, "I dunno... Just strange that he had this and nothing else but his robes and a datapad that had been shoved under the bed..." At Narsai's comment, Rax just grins, "Hey, he did get the whole memory bank... You should probably check it out some time, even if the information is ancient history, now. I run a copy by the Thunderheart, next time I'm there." He shrugs slowly, looking back down at the tooth, "And maybe not, it's true... Just the circumstances of how I came to have it were...unusual, to say the least. I feel like it might have meant something important to him. A mystery to be unlocked, a fetter to be freed. I dunno."
Galak looks to the tooth and listens to the talk going on amongst the others. "You thinking like the crystal on Illum?" he asks of Rax with an upturned brow. He leans his head to the side, resulting in a few pops.
"Alright," Mae reaches for her drink again and eyes Rax, "walk me through it. What dead jedi, that you're certain is a dead jedi. In what training compound, that you're certain is a training compound. More intel, mister Tomb Raider, if you don't mind," she adds a smile before glancing to Galak, that smile lingering. "What crystal on Illum?"
The crystal Narsai at least knows about, but she doesn't say anything. Instead the redhead just leans back against the counter and sips her drink while watching the exchange with interest alight in her emerald eyes. It's soda, not alcohol, but she hadn't quite got back into the habbit so much after she'd spent so long treating a lasting wound.
Grimacing at Galak for a few moments, Rax looks aside to Maeve, "I took some people with me to a lost a while back, before I formed the Explorers. We found some special caves there. Unfortunately... someone gave the location away..." Rax just keeps his gaze fixed on Maeve, without looking around as he lets the conversation pause for a beat. "...But, fortunately, the people who went to investigate weren't interested in looting them. The mining equipment was removed. Regardless, I happened to find a crystal there that proved quite useful to me." He gestures aside idly, "Not really a conversation for a public restaurant, but the circumstances of finding it were strange, as was the acquisition of this necklace. So, you know, seemed worth looking into."
Oozlevort slurps his blue narcotic concoction. The short alien glances over at Rax Vaelus and his group, then slurps some more through his queer straw-like contraption. After a few moments it is disconnected. A little puff of ammonia is expelled from the side of his breathing mask.
Galak holds that look with Rax for a moment, his expression somewhat confused. "I did not think our trip to Ilum any big secret given current company," he says gesturing with a hand to include the few gathered. "I was simply asking if it was a similar feeling that you were referring to between this tooth and that incident." He glances sideways to Maeve and gestures toward Rax's retelling. "And that is a fortunate set of circumstances that whoever went back, did not intend on looting them. Save for the mining tools, apparently."
"I see," Mae finally says, though it's the sort of phrase one says when they have only the broadest of an overview of what's actually being talked about. She shares a slow nod with Galak, "It's fortunate but also speaks, in a manner, to those who'd abandon the equipment in the first place. That sort of equipment isn't cheap, and the cost of acquiring it, transporting it, using it correctly, then just leaving it behind? That part doesn't entirely make sense to me, that's all." She taps one fingertip against the edge of the glass she's holding and finally wonders aloud: "Is there anything, scientifically speaking, that i can help with?"
That was actually enough to make Narsai tilt her head to the side. The thought of a cave full of crystals hiding away in the snow. It was rare enough that the Empire had actively hunted them down back in the day. Now? She might just have to go looking into this first cave herself, missing equipment or not. Nothing however is voiced, her thoughts her own in silence.
Eyeing Galak for a moment, Rax seems satisfied and shrugs, "If you're asking whether or not I get a strange buzz from the necklace, 'fraid not. Didn't from the crystal either, but maybe one day." He grins, "Probably not, though..." To Maeve, Rax shrugs as well, "No clue, doc. I was kind of hoping there would be very small writing on it, some sort of initials, anything... It's kind of like having a map where you know everything except where to begin. I know it's a Kath tooth, I know it's old, and that's about it. The metal, perhaps?"
Mae leans back rather noticeably, leans away from Rax that is, "You don't get all anger management issues either, I trust? I will sedate you, fair warning, and duct tape will be applied."
Galak watches the interaction between Maeve and Rax with a bit of a confused expression on his face as he takes a sip of his drink. For now, he doesn't say anything. He simply stands and watches the two as they discuss sedation and duct tape.
Rax Vaelus looks just as confused as Galak about Maeve's reaction. Lifting an eyebrow high, he leans away from her a little as well. "Uh...anger management issues? Not that I know of?" Blinking very slowly, he glances to Galak, then Narsai, and finally looks back at Maeve. "Do you know something about this tooth that I don't?"
Before Maeve can respond her comm unit goes off and, with a sigh of annoyance, she pulls the comm unit from one pocket and glances at the screen. Hastily rising to her feet she excuses herself, passing a credit stick over the edge of the bar to pay for her drink before snagging her jacket, "Pardon me. I have to head to my clinic." With that she hurries down out of the bar and back out into the rain.
