Sands of Socorro
Location: Socorro
Participants: Renek Crowe, Rip Recker, Kaelyn, Kisaiya, Nova Korell, Merek
The winds blow through the deserts of Socorro while a team of folk aligned to the Resistance meet with the point of contact at a cave in the winding canyons. Black sands swirl as Merek has taken a speeder with him to deliver the team to his contact with the Black Bha'lir. He slows up while he looks from the goggles to the others that are there, "Alright, I will be on comms, you all have it from here. I will provide our exit, either by speeder or ship depending how this goes."
A man exits the cave, while he looks to all those that have come, and motions for them to follow into the cave with him, "Come, we explain, we need to get this finished before night."
Kae, the younger of the two Sephi sisters, now that they're in a cave and all, has her helmet pulled up enough so her eyes nose and more importantly mouth is exposed. She reaches into a pouch she keeps on her hip and digs through it before pulling out an orange kind of double-bulbed sphere which she uses a small knife to help peel.. Before long she's smiling cheerfully as she is eating wedge after wedge of dark orange/red fruited citrus of some kind..
Meanwhile a pair of BB droids come rolling up behind Kae, one on either side.. One is white with purple accents, the other is black with purple accents... The white one glances up and accidently bumps into Kae, causing the dark one to extend a manipulator and bop the white one, which ends up in a kind of wierd ball-droid slap party and lots of beeping and warbling... Kae sighs and casually steps between themn...
Both droids emit questioning beeps.. Kae sighs "Quiiiit, not here... when we get back you two can get on the Holovid and play space wrestlers and beat each other's avatar up really badly..." To which both droids litterally squee happily and start acting well, at least like normal BB's should?
Kae looks around curiously as she's finished most of her citrus-y fruit and is working now on a second as she sticks the last of the wedges in her mouth....
A man had to eat, and to eat, he had to earn. That explains why Rip was here. He leaps from their lift and plops firmly in the black sand. A few adjustments to his gunbelt, the duster, then his hair (which is fruitless because of the wind) and this smuggler is ready. The man who says, 'come, we explain, we need to get this finished before tonight,' earns all of Rip's attention. Rather than wait for the others to converge, he follows the guy blindly, swaggering along like any overconfident Corellian might.
A soft whirring noise might be heard as Kisaiya sort of half-skips along with the rest of them. Her powered armor kicking in to start regulating the temperature. She is wearing the full helmet, her face enclosed with the sort of slit-eyed glow of the optical receivers being displayed on the outside. Kisa is flicking through the different options in her helmet as usual, thermal, night, normal, thermal, night, normal.
If she started turning the flashlight on and off it might be more obvious that she's hosting a one-person party inside that suit as she waits to find out more. She comes up to a stop next to her sister, her voice coming out at about three octaves higher than it should. "I think the sand is getting into some of the electronics. Yep. Yep. Kae, can you fix that?"
On a world like this, Nova Korell is glad her armor sports climate control systems. The weary soldier is fine with Merek driving; if something happens, they'll need someone to return fire, and she's good at that.
The speeder appears to be coming to a halt. Nova nods shortly at Merek, almost casually stepping from the speeder and sweeping the horizon with her quadnoculars. "Looks like we haven't been followed," she says, lowering the devices back into their case and shutting the speeder's door. She moves to follow the man into the cave, hands resting casually on her tac-slung Tracker's grips.
Renek's boots thud heavily into the sand a moment after Rip lands, and the former soldier turned 'mercenary' straightens up slowly. Covering his body are heavy armor plates, and his face is obscured by a blast helmet and visor. A grey scarf has been wrapped around his neck and the bottom of his face to ward off the biting black sand on their journey here, but now that they have arrived he pulls it down. He adjusts the rifle strapped over his shoulder, and then starts after Rip -- equally somber and straight to business.
The winds pick up, the sands begin to move around in a way that keeps the world from view. It is good for privacy, not so wonderful to scouting. The man waits for all of them, then a man steps to the makeshift light. He motions to those that have come, "This is going to be a simple explanation, we don't have the luxury of waiting around... An outpost here is holding shipments of military weapons that are to be sent to worlds the Order has superiority upon... We don't have a map of the place, we do know that is has a tower watch, and a front entrance, as well as a cargo bay. Your mission will be two things," he holds up a finger, "One, you will sabotage the shipment, two you will also recover information from the facility. They are rivals to us, we are willing to offer you compensation, and our favor in the smuggling world. You will have an hour to walk there, it will take about half an hour, then you have a half an hour for completion of the mission. If you do it perfectly, we will offer those of you who are smugglers an in with us, should you wish to join our efforts also. Any questions?" he asks.
First words ouf ot Kae's mouth in reaction to Kisa? "Agaaaain?" She say sand siiighs... "The wrist comp that thing has built in, pull up diagnostic, then hit the purge button, that'll clear things out for you... It'll flush its self of sand and stuffs... That armor can do that." She adds and eats more citrus... "Ya know these are really good..." She then pauses a moment "Umm on second thought... Lemme ..." She says and reaches over to Kisa, picks up her arm and hits the right buttons on the wrist comp for her armor.. "These buttons here..." She says and grins again..
Kae then glances to the people "Ooh tight time tables and stuff...." She looks at what she has on her "Good thing I brought my buddies here, they can help get us in to that place tooo... and I'm pretty handy with base and ship systems and stuffs....." She mutters and rubs the back of her neck "Sooo you want us to Sabotage the shipment? Does it matter how? You want it subtle? or you want it to knock out the ship hauling it? What?"
"None. Let's get this kriffing thing going. I'm tired of sand getting everywhere, and Old Soldier here isn't getting any younger." He hikes a gloved thumb back toward the older Republic soldier standing near him. "I'm a demolitions expert, so sabotaging drek is my drek." He announces to their crew. Rip looks ready to rumble, and if they were holding some sort of weight behind being tied to the Black Bah'lir, then his displaying the holstered CM Series III blaster would've marked him as one of their favored anyway.
Renek listens carefully to what their contact has to say, and doesn't have any 'big thoughts' that need offering back in return. His only reaction to the briefing is a furrowed brow, which is fortunately hidden by the visor on his helmet. "Well, doesn't this feel like a bit of Deja Vu, Cap'n..." He drolls in dark and laconic tones to Rip. He then looks over to the gunslinger, and shakes his head ever so slightly. "We don't hurry it up you'll have to change my adult diaper before we're done." His feet shift into a more comfortable position, and he goes back to waiting.
Kisa is standing there, staring at her sister when her sister reaches over and makes the suit vent out the sand. She cants her head to the side, looking down to the wrist panel then back up, down, back up. "This one?" She presses it and the flashlight turns on. Nope. Another press to turn it off, then a press and the suit makes a sound as gas shoots out from some of the gaps - clearing them again. A head turn toward Rip, curiosity as she tilts her head again, "Get what kriffing thing going? We just got off a speeder that was going and we were walking. Or do you mean that like how kids these days say 'What is going up'? Wait, is that the phrase?" Kisa looks toward her sister and scratches at her metal chin.
"Where will this information be stored, and what kind of information are you looking for?" Nova asks, looking to the second man. "Retrieving data from a computer is a lot different than scouring a room for a binder full of flimsies, and it'd be easy to miss the right stuff if we don't know what we're looking for." She hears the telltale hiss of powered armor preparing to vent sand, and edges a little farther from Kisaiya and Kae.
"It will be on a file in the office likely, on a datastick, that is all we know," the man tells Nova, he then motions to the others, "You can plan and walk on your way there," he adds. The winds swirl the sand about outside, while the Bha'lir also move into their cave again.
Kae peers over to Nova now and smiles "I and my droids here can prolly help with grabbing that info and any other info needed too." she says cheerfully... Kae then glances back to Kisa and reaches out to poke at her sister... Poke.... Poke.... Kae then shrugs and looks to the others before tugging her helmet down. There's a brief hiss as the internals seal off and of course the atmospheric control inside starts up. Yay for Mandalorian built armor? And that's what Kae's wearing.
The armor is camoflaged, suprisingly well for this area what with the greys and browns on it, and the black, shiny H-visor is a tell tale sign of the maker to boot. "Soo we have a looong walk in front of us.. we'll probably want to get going... do we have a layout of this base? Some kinda plan?" She asks curiously, "Or am I and or my droids sneeking up and getting one when we get there?" She adds and then the girl idly checks her tracker carbine and her pistol... "Doop dee doop..." She humms to her self while making sure her weapons are charged up.
"Man, I love these guys. Straight to business, and they just toss you to the kath hounds! That's a page out of my own holo." Looking back at Renek, Rip brings up his own face mask, which is just an old rag he's tied to hang over his nose and mouth. It's pretty obvious Rip is smiling, but the rag hides the more charming details of his face. "If you mess yourself, I'm using that diaper as a grenade. It'll be great." To Kisa, he motions after their hosts. "I mean the mission, kid. The part where we blow something up." He pulls goggles down over his eyes. An elbow nudges Renek again. "This time, there aren't any Trandoshans.. so who's in charge of this thing? We just walking through the front door? That's what he said to do?" Rip indicates that the /he/ referenced in his statement is Renek.
Kisa reaches back and starts jabbing her sister back. Poke-poke-poke, "You aren't sneaking up there either way! Don't you /even/. I'm better at sneaking than you are, ya goof!" Those who know what to listen for could probably hear the frown on Kisaiya's face since she otherwise was wearing that helmet that covered it. Kisa had a SoroSuub Tracker as well, though she wasn't checking the purple ammo readout at the moment. "And why-for you poke me!" Kisa knew exactly why her sister was poking her, but that didn't stop her from playing the innocent here. She turns to look toward Rip, staring at him (presumably) before looking away and toward Nova. She inches back in her direction her hand straying down toward her wrist and the button to vent.
"No layout for sure; we barely know where this place is," Nova replies to Kae. "I guess we'll have to come up on it quiet-like and do a little scouting, if the wind dies down enough. With a half-hour time limit, the last thing we want is to get lost in there." She steps outside, finds the proper bearing on her compass, and gets walking in the right direction. "The faster we get there, the more time we'll have to look the place over. That'd be a big help in formulating more of a plan than we have now."
"You're wanting /me/ to go through the front door first?" Renek says almost incredulously to Rip. "Compared to most of the others on this mission I am the least armed and least armored and most likely to be killed." He pauses for a moment, ponder this potential future, and nods. "Seems fine by me. Lets get moving." He motions for someone to take the lead. "We would only be so lucky if there were some of those fair, most beautiful, creatures of the night... Trandoshan women waiting for us in that there base." He says with seemingly disturbing sincerity to Rip.
The walk to the outpost is simple enough, although the winds as well as sands keep them from seeing much when they find it. The place is the size of a house, and a tower can be made out from those arriving. They are at a point where it's difficult to see much of the place besides that. Though, there is likely a person at the tower watching the sands also.
Kae tilts her head as they get closer and well, she's soon flat on the ground behind some cover and pulling up her carbine to look down the sights... "Sniper in the tower.. I think." She says and rubs the back of her neck, even though there's armor there... "We's either wanna take em out quiet or sneek by em, but that's a guy with a biiiig gun..." She says and she glances to Kisa.
Kae's droids all hide behind Kae trying to get low too... "Kiisssaaa." Kae whispers "Put on the thermal thingies and verify?" She asks and grins again....
Kisa is headed along with everyone else and pulls up a bit short alongside her sister. Thankfully, she has all those handy toggles for different vision modes. It even has a built in tracking system. She nods her head and looks toward the guard post as well. "I see it too-o-o-o-o. Someone up in the tower. You know, Kae, this whole thing seems like one of those holos I keep catching you watching."
Nova pulls out her quadnoculars again, pausing to take a knee and look the place over. She frowns at the sight of that tower. "At least the searchlights won't be much use, not in this. Just hope they don't have really good thermal optics. The hot sand'll mess up cheap stuff." She looks the place over carefully. "Definitely someone in that tower, could be a sniper like Kae's saying. They've got a good line of sight on the front entrance. Maybe we could work around to the back. I'm not seeing a lot of windows; gotta get pretty dark in there, so I'm guessing they've got lights inside... which means we can put them out if need be."
Kae, is well, she's moving as best she can? She's well casually strolling, somewhat quietly, ok so she kicks a rock or two, then stumbles, then pauses a bit... She waggles her arms some and adopts the whole cartoon sneak-pose. She's seen that on Holos too and continues sneaking up on the building... Now mind you, she's eeeeveerrrr so barely audibly humming a personal sneeky theme song... THis is soo gonna get her thwapped by Kisa...
As Kae gets to the back of the building she smiles, not that it's seen and gives everyone a thumbs up! She did it, yaaaay! She so didn't do it, but she thinks she did!
This mission was timed, and they didn't have the time to discuss how to efficiently go about clearing the corners and every hiding spot. This required action, and Rip was one for the challenge. Since no one claimed to be in charge, it was time to take charge; /BE/ the charge. He nudged Renek. "I CAN'T SEE A KRIFFING THING!" He yelled over the wind and sand. "KRIFF IT!" In the only show of dexterity that was likely to grace the smuggler captain today, he draws his CM Series III blaster and charges ahead. Past the sneaking people and right on up to the door where he trips over a small dune and barrels right on in. It's a fantastic display of failure and initiative in one roll, and Rip owns it, landing on his side the moment something, anything gives.
"YOU'RE RIGHT! ITS A BLOODY SANDSTORM! I BET THEY AREN'T EVEN LOOKING OUT THE WINDOWS." Renek shouts back to Rip, trying to be heard over the sound of the storm. When the Gunslinger takes off running towards the house, the soldier just watches him for a moment in disbelief. "Kriff me..." He murmurs under his breath. "He's going to steal all my kills, and get himself killed in the process. I'll have to write a letter to Zero explaining why Rip is dead. I hate writing." With that said, Renek leaps to his feet, and charges after his friend and commander to join him.
Edging out a little from the boundary, Nova keeps low and moves in, her steps silent and perfectly timing her movements with the eddies of the wind, moving when it picks up. She's in close in moments... And watching that tower, having heard Rip's shouted profanity. It doesn't look like the potential sniper is watching them at the moment, or so her telescopic sight says. But if that changes... she draws a bead, keeping an eye on him. "Dull roar, guys? This'll be tricky enough as it is."
Kisa is following the same idea as Nova, slinking along in her armor and right up behind her sister. Who - as she hears the humming - gives her a flick of the long pointy ear and a whispered, "Stahp the sneaking music, ya jawa." A sigh and she drifts a bit away from her sister and still toward the facility paralleling Nova in her own way.
When Recker moves to the entrance, the sound of some of the sneakers draws that sniper's attention, then he's preparing his aim for the place right in front. The front door then opens as four smugglers move out with a leader after preperations from them. They all lift up their weapons to aim at those in the front. The ones at the back would have to backtrack to assist the others at this point also.
Kae blinks and is poked at by her sister, this of course get sthe requisite flailing of arms briefly. "I was humming quietly!" She whispers... "Fruitbat..." She responds at the mention of Jawa... Kae then peers at the door curiously and squints her eyes now as she's at the back door and she blinks... "Umm yeaah so whoever thought to lock the door really gets an F- for effort here.." She mutters, then simply bendes over and starts lifting the door up.... "Up up and awaaay!" She says and blinks..
From the ground, and his side, Rip opens fire using the marksman as it was designed. The loud blaster discharging is enough to cause his ears to ring, and he's already screaming his war cry by the second shot. One's done for, and there's plenty of others to kill. "GET IN HERE RENEK BEFORE I KILL THEM ALL!"
Seeing that sniper go on alert to the front of the facility, Nova adjusts her aim and double-taps. Only one of the shots hits, as the sharpshooter apparently has eyes in the back of his head. She hurriedly ducks up against the side of the building, out of his sight.
Kisa lets out a /sigh/ at her sister and the amusement is heard in her voice, "You're still a Jawa, and it was /still/ too loud." She would smile, or she was smiling, except for the fact that you couldn't see her smile behind the helmet." She waited at the opposite side of the door as her sister as Kaelyn started working on opening it. As the door swings wide, Kisaiya pulls the rifle into her shoulder and starts to heads through the building at a fast walk. Keeping her eyes open and checking corners. "I'm gonna try to fla-a-a-ank them." Kisa's voice is sing-song on the comm.
Renek charges up next to Rip, and takes a knee next to the door -- using it for both cover and to stabilize his weapon. His heavy rifle rises slowly into position, and he places the butt of it against his cheek. "Don't worry... You wont kill all of them." He says in dark and sinister tones to Rip. He pulls the trigger, and a blazing flash of light accompanies it. The heavy blaster bolt rips out of the rifle, and blasts a scorching hole into one of the smugglers.
As the smugglers are coming to them but two fall to the blaster fire, the leader stepping by them while all of them lift up their weapons to shoot. "You won't take the shipment, we will pay you to let us alone," he offers, while shooting them. The sniper takes a hit and notices he's being shot. He tries dodging the next, then he manages to roll out of the tower and lands right on the sands. Kaelyn manages to find shipments within the cargo bay, while Kisa moves through the place to the doors managing to flank the smugglers also.
Kae is on the coms "I found the cargo! And look! Grenades!" She says cheerfully... "Lezzee what this does.." The sound of pins being pulled and beeping can be plainly heard on the coms.. "That's one... Thaaat's two grenades... Nope that's not efficent..." More rumblings int he background, the sound of tape and whatnot, then well more pins being pulled and lots more beeping "That's.. a bunch, and then another..." there's more tape and more pins "Aaaand another..." And she closes the boxes...
Next Kae skips up behind Kisa or at least behind her path saying on the coms.. "I put a buncha bombs in boxes folks..." She says cheerfully... "We might not wanna hang around heeerrreee!" She's like way too cheerful with explosives... It's the same tone Kisa's heard when Kae got a hold of a magazine of proton torpedos and other large explosives and wiped out a corvette... one she happened to be taking a bounty off of....
Kisaiya finally manages to sweep around behind the group of Smugglers as she frowns a little, she thought she heard her sister say something crazy. But that can't be right. I mean... That would be silly if she heard her sister right. Then again, she's known her sister to do stranger things. Oh no. "Um, fire in the hole?" Kisa says it on the comm before popping up, holding the tracker in tight she pops off a round toward each of the smugglers in the area before curling herself as low as she can in preparation for an explosion. "Kae, you better not get yourself hurt or I'm not letting you leave the ship next time."
Rip was just getting up when they all started shooting at him. So he flings himself toward the door, and falls back outside in the sand, comically rolling by Renek who'd just been hit as a result of Rip moving. "Pardon me.." He grunts and plants his back on the other side of the door, cradling his Series III between two hands and peeking in. "This crazy guy is negotiating /and/ shooting at us." He looks to Renek and just nods. When it comes time, he intended to swing in a shoot the guy at the same time. Rip moves, assuming a bi-lateral shooting stance where the blaster is kept close to his torso, and fires twice into the room, hitting the leader once with a devastating blue bolt. "HA! SELL THAT, HUTTSUCKER!"
Nova can't help but hear Kae's idea of demolitions. <Team, we should go. Kae's been planting grenades in the munitions boxes, and you know how short those timers run!> She steps back from the building and paces quickly backwards, covering the back exit. After all, someone still might come out that way. She sidesteps a few times as well, just in case 'someone' turns out to be a plume of fire. <I'm hearing shooting. How are things up there?>
Renek grunts as blaster bolt fired by the Smuggler Leader strikes him in the leg, which was unfortunately sticking around the corner of the door. "Son of a kriffing gundar," the old soldier growls, and turns his sights to the leader of the smugglers. The man is trying to negotiate, but is still holding a blaster -- still firing at him. Renek watches as Rip's shot hits the leader, but that doesn't deter him. He targets the leaders head, and pulls the trigger. A dull thump is heard as the blaster rifle fires, and the leaders head all but disapears in a blast of fire. The Irregular mercenary looks back over to Rip here. "Was he saying something? I couldn't hear him over all the sand..." With that said, he rises to his feet -- preparing to limp away from the building.
As the smugglers are shot by the flanking members of that team, the other two back up and into the building even as they watch as Recker and Kisa move into it. The first of the grenades are beginning to explode, and it resounds through the cargo bay. However, it is clearly the sound of someone that armed some protons also. Not to mention what was already in some of those crates. There's a sound as light comes from the building, which then echoes through the skies of sand.
Recker manages to make the door and push it open as Kisa can run in to pick up the datastick that's on a table. Between them, they can succeed. But if she does pick it up, when she does, both of them can see it, a flame and light rolling down the hallway. The walls begin to have lines appear on them, and flames shoot from them. The whole room then creates a wave as all things are blasted.
The two smugglers are killed by it, while the ones that are moving away don't get hit. All the walls are falling and a flame and smoke then come from the building. The entire place then falls onto itself. Kaelyn is at the door when she covers the bay with it, and she's blasted back by the military grade weapon explosion also.
Anyone ever watch a cartoon where the person getting blasted can be seen tumbling through the air? That right now is Kaelyn, well kind of, she's riding a door through the air briefly... "Eeeeeeee!" is heard as she is flung back, now landing with the door underneath her somehow, and ending up tumbling away. There's thuds and oofs and well more screaming and well a pause...
Kae has the time now to take a deep breath, once she gets it back, and well more calling out and Kae gets up to well kind of stumble around in a circle... She can't really hear much right now.. "That wasn't s'posed to happen!" She calls out.... "It's s'posed to last longer on the fuse thingie!!!"
"Good kill, hotshot." Rip holsters his blaster and moves into the building, not forgetting the second objective for their mission. He's met by Kisaiya, who he allows ahead after he runs down the corridor and just manages to open the door to the next room. He sees the datastick, but he's clearing the room and not just running for treasure. "Clear.. get that data-quiz-moto thing, and let's--" The explosion robs Rip of any hearing as he turns and comes face to face with a flash of explosive fire and concussive power.
He's cast backward, clear across the room as flames curl around the threshold and suck out all the oxygen in the room. Rip's collision is a shelving unit, that breaks, and he falls into a mess of other things that break, and soon, drek is falling all over him, and then there's black. Not because he blacked out, but pitch black. For now, Rip is dazed, ears ringing, and the smell of smoke and burning debris is all around. <<"DID WE GET THE DATA QUIZ-MOTO?!">> He screams over comms, and his own internal ringing.
Kisaiya was being similarly studious about checking things, she just didn't pause as Rip yanked the door open giving her that bit of a lead as she makes the final dash. A dive, and a grab just as the explosion rocks through the building, starting at one end and quickly heading in their direction. Thankfully - after getting knocked off her feet from the concussive force - the world was mostly quiet and the ringing wasn't even that bad. The helmet having cut the external pick-ups as the sound spiked that high.
It left Kisa in the dark and quiet as she tumbled from one thing into the next. The armor plates starting to crack in places but otherwise holding together. All dark. All quiet. It was kinda peaceful, except for the fact that she was upsidedown with her head kinda wedged one way and her arms in the other with one leg in the air.
A bit of wiggling and she hauls herself up. Stumbling this way and that, her powerarmor blacked by fire and soot. She took the short way, maybe giving Rip a clearer path on the way out as she bumbled through and out into the open.
And as she spoke, she had the sounds much like the place she emerged from, the voice coming out some four octaves lower this time. The pits of Hell.
"Ka-a-a-a-a-ae. KA-A-A-A-A-A-A-AE!" Yes, calling out for the other Sephi, the demon in flames, "I think a plate cracked. And maybe a rib." A pause... <<"Data quiz-moto? I got the data charmer or whatever. Is that hat you mean?">>
Nova isn't that far away from the explosion herself; when it goes, she barely has time to throw herself to the ground as a plume of flame blasts out the open back door, barely above the sands! Too stunned to even roll to the side, Nova just hugs the ground and hopes for the best.
It's a long moment before she can get up. She sighs in relief, finding herself still alive, and looks back towards the fireball and debris that used to be the depot. <This is Nova... I'm good, as far as I can tell. Nothing broken, anyway. Everybody okay?>
She moves to steady Kaelyn; bad idea or not, she's still a teammate. "Easy there... that was quite a ride you took. Can you see anyone?" she asks, and turns towards the mess to look for survivors as well.
She's not quite intact: Aside from the bruises she got throwing herself to the ground, the seat of her armor's black fiber undersuit has been scorched to ash, and her white underpants nearly glow in the dim light. But any explosion you can walk away from, right?
As the building explodes, Renek turns back towards it -- a hand coming up to shield his eyes from the blast. "That stupid nerf-kriffer finally got himself killed..." He says reverantly, reaching up to pull his helmet off out of respect. "Good luck, Cap'n... Of all the Captain's I have encountered in my career... You were the most..." He pauses and sighs, looking down. "Competent." He sputters out. The large soldier looks down mournfully at the sand, and then hears Rip's voice over the comms. "Oh... Hey... Rip's alive. Isn't that nice." Renek tosses his helmet back onto his head, and starts to limp over to dig his friend out.
The place smoulders with the flames, though it looks like all have managed. While a bit extravagant, this satisfies most of the Bha'lir when they meet with the folk. A ship can be seen in the distance coming to the place of explosion while the sands keep most of the place from view, so they probably are not noticing the people all on the sands also.
