Repairing Tomorrow Briefing
OOC Date: July 25, 2018
Location: RAF Renegade
Participants: Ambrosia Greystorm, David Ironside, Dawn Antilles, Ektor, Elrych Cometburn, Jessika Pava, Karas Darkwing, Karé Kun, Poe Dameron, Rey, The Resistance
The doors hissing open, then closed, punctuated the arrival of Poe Dameron and his faithful droid, BB-8. Both worked their way down toward the center, where the stadium like design of the room accentuated the importance of the holo-projector there, and the one narrating the the pretty pictures for all. "Hit it, buddy." Was all Poe said to BB-8, who whistled an affirmative and rolled from sight. A moment later, the Resistance emblem appeared bright and proud, rotating slowly. Poe perched himself against the table casually and propped one leg up on the small, waist level partition stationed between the rows of seating and the lowest deck where he stood now. "Who all is here?"
---
Kare slowly raises here hand "Me," she says before lowering it back down. A glance around her at the other pilots before she draws out her datapad and gets ready for the briefing.
---
David Ironside is sitting on a seat about two thirds towards the back. The seats here are fixed in place and not built for comfort, so the newly-promoted Lieutenant is sitting sort of sideways, stretching his legs out under the desk and leaning an elbow on top of it. His droid, too large to fit inbetween the seats and desks, is down by the terminal, plugged in via scomp link to download any essential information the terminal might show during the briefing. Glancing around, he gives Kare Kun a wink. He's here, and she doesn't have to take notes for him.
---
Elrych Cometburn is sitting on one of the benches. Okay he is leaning causuallu ove three of them with his R2 Unit Baby with him ready to take notes. The running shoe wearing thick rimmed and dark star shades wearing jedi is bobbing his head to the music pumping through his earbuds. As Poe enters he takes one earbud out and turns down the volume. "Im a avalible." this guy...
---
Ektor is slouched low in a seat a couple rows back from the front, leaning on his left elbow unevenly. He could use a shower and a shave. When Poe asks who's here, he lazily raises his non-load bearing arm to drawl with a lopsided grin, "I am also.. mostly here."
---
"Green, Gold, Red, and Silver," Jessika offers helpfully, sitting near the bottom section of the theater seating. In the back, her astromech is on the top tier, with it's recording systems trained on the briefing and the man who will be giving it so that all the notes can be taken. Like the blonde woman who announced her presence, Jessika has her datapad ready to go to transcribe notes on, especially in her function as XO for Red.
---
Karas is sitting next to Jessika and as he sits there his data pad is pulled out and ready, his droid Spark is also taking in the data as well, figuring it would do a better job than Karas. Karas smiles to his droid, but looks up at Poe as he comes in and the Resistance Emblem comes up. When asked who all is here, he looks to Jess as she provides that info. He grins and nods his head.
---
Rey has slipped into the room, but has tried to stay back and out of the way. She's not sitting, she's standing with her hands together in front of her and her sleeves pooling around her wrists where her her left hand clutches her right wrist. Her eyes are on the pilots and others in the room, she's watching and just calmly listening. When anyone speaks next, she'll look to their direction.
---
"Excellent, alright now's the time we take notes. Squadron Leaders, this is important." Poe turned and brought his hiked up foot down to stand up straight. His right hand came up and gestured toward BB-8, "Now, pal.-- For awhile now, the Resistance has enjoyed the fruits of smuggled goods, fuel, chow, and repair parts. It's rare we get a call like this, but lately our supply lines have been tested and we're losing suppliers. This has to stop, and it's not a matter of us waiting for the next supplier. Our credibility is on the line here." Poe let that sink in for a moment. BB-8 changed the image to a large map, and honed in on one system in particular.
"Here we have the Klawto system, out of the way, nothing entirely too special other than it's the supply point for our freighters to pick up cargo and cart it to us. That supply line has been hit a number of times now by pirates, and the Captains doing the hauls are fed up from having no support. That's where we step in. We must honor our allies and treat every shipment as if it's the most important shipment. These supplies are our lifeline without them, there is no Resistance. I'm going to break our plan of attack into phases, and these will be conveyed over comms as just their titles to initiate a response from the squadrons, SO LISTEN UP."
"Phase 1 is initial arrival. Our freighters' journey begins at a space supply platform where local operatives her transferring supplies to three freighters. Captain Krasin Jalba's Voidslip is a Gallofree Yards, Inc. GR-75 Medium Transport, Captain Aerex Covell's Mynock Hunter is a Ghtroc Industries Class 720 Freighter, and Captain Wyrren Rendix's Deep Trawler is a Ghtroc Industries Class 720 Freighter. The Voidslip is carrying fuel, which makes it a tantalizing target, especially to beaten enemies looking to make an impressive retreat. Red and Gold Squadrons are to immediately deploy into intercept formations once the freighters have left the station. Green squadron will hold back with Black Leader, while Silver Squadron takes a more immediate defensive presence around the freighters. Our goal for phase 1 is to be 'dug in' and ready for an attack. Keep in mind Green, you will bring up the tail end of this formation with me. These freightors will be loaded, and they're moving as fast as Hutts on a holiday. Any questions for phase one?"
---
While it may appear that Kare isn't to excited, to say the least, about being in yet another briefing, what with her slumped down in her chair with her head resting on the back support portion and her legs up so her feet press against the chair in front of her, she does work the datapad deftly, her head barely moving but her eyes in constant motion between the 'pad and Poe. Notes and notes get entered even when she yawns as if she is bored out of her mind. A flicker of her eyes to Dave and a hint of a nod is given when he makes eye contact with her. Attitude is everything and Kare loves attitude. Look calm, act calm and speak calm even when butterflies fight a furious battle with in. Nodding as the meat of the briefing hits first.
---
Ektor itches at the side of his neck as he peers at the projection. Eyes narrowing in study of the details. "Uhhhh huh," he grunts in eventual comprehension, turning his half-lidded eyes to Poe and giving a lazy nod.
---
David keeps quiet, not announcing his presence. The ever helpful Jessika ends up doing it for him, and she gets an appreciative nod from him. Whether she turns to notice or not. When Poe gets down to business, David sits up straight, leaning forward on both elbows with his hands clasped together. The assignments get called out, but one thing sticks in Dave's mind. He raises a hand, and, when given the time, stands up and asks, "Silver Squadron being Rey.. and who?" It doesn't sound sensible to this pilot to have one craft on hand for said 'defensive presence', after all.
---
Elrych Cometburn looks over to David, "Me..." He answers.
---
Karas sits there quiet taking in the information, making sure he understands whats being asked of them as well as taking in the systems where they will be going. He doesn't ask any questions, as he feels the severity of the situation that is being told to them. The dark skinned X-Wing pilot leans back into his seat and glances around at the other pilots.
---
"Moving right along." Poe snapped his finger and BB-8 brought up the images of the ships and their respective order, just as Poe had rattled off moments before. The image showed the squadron formations, just as Poe had conveyed, and then a thin blue line indicated their path and the way they were moving to reach the end of the massive gravity well to jump out. "Phase two begins upon enemy contact. It doesn't matter who sees or if we all see it, I want to hear it confirmed over comms. Communication and team work will be the key to pulling this off." Poe turned and wiped the image away with a lazy swipe of his hand and a new image came up. "Intelligence suggests that our enemy consists of Pirates. The same pirates we ran off Blackrock, according to some reports. Their strategy has been a solid one so far, and they are experts at ambush and deception. The center of their strategy will be a freighter they use as their command ship. We're not certain of the armament, but it is both sturdy and has a mean hook. The freightor will be aided by smaller fighters. Agile, and not so tough, but they have us on numbers and they work well as a team. Squadrons Leaders and members need to call their targets but watch your six. Intelligence suggests they've the means of reinforcement fighters as well with numbers up to the unknown region."
"Our primary objective is to protect these friendly freighters at all costs. Keep the fire off them, especially the lead which is carrying our fuel. Silver Squadron, intimidation and speed. You will not leave those freightors unguarded. If someone evades you, call it out. Red and Gold squadrons will focus on the second objective simultaneously as we're moving. Eliminate hostile fighters quickly and efficiently. The quicker you give them the business, the quicker you can help Green squadron with the tertiary objective."
"Resistance High Command wants that enemy freightor. Which means we're disarming it. First task is to take out its means of disabling ships. Silver Squadron will be in their sights, but Green will focus on disabling shots. If we can disable this freightor, command wants to scan its nav computer to ascertain where these attacks are coming from and possibly launch a separate initiative to take them out; for good. So in summary for phase two. Silver squadron is focused on what?" He points at Silver. "Red and Gold is focused on what?" He points to them. "And Green squadron is focused on what?"
---
Still in her 'I don't care' sitting posture, Kare studies the map and the one on her datapad while she draws the vectors in. A hand raises as if the effort was massive "Uh, two questions, what are our comms freq's and the convoys as well and also what are we calling this lash up?" Kare asks, finger poised to tap that into the 'pad.
---
Rey's eyes are on Poe as he provides the briefing, until he calls out her duo specifically which makes her eyes go over to Elrych and she offers her wingman on the mission a little nod, then returns her eyes to Poe. "I promise that we'll do everything in our power to make sure the freighters don't come under overwhelming fire." Internally she's hoping for the best on that, two against <however many> could get pretty hairy, but hopefully things will go well... She was shot down on their last mission though... so needless to say Rey shifts a bit uncomfortably where she stands, but keeps her confidence up as high as she can muster it.
---
Elrych Cometburn nods slowly, "Stay close to the freighters and keep them safe. Call any evasions so red and gold can get after them so we dont drift too far from our charge." He nods to Rey. Okay maybe he is winking behind those shades of his. Who can tell, really this guy is too much.
---
Ektor sniffs sharply, rubbing at his nose with the back of one forefinger. "So, you want Green hanging back to knock out the freighter, yeah? Like... without dropping into the middle of a dogfight? Just a.. standard bombing run?" He blinks. "We can do that?" He mutters aside to whoever is to his left, "I seriously never knew that was an option."
---
Annotating the various phases and the three objectives listed out, Jessika pauses in the process of entering data on her datapad and directs her own attention and question to Poe. "If we do disable the pirate ship, what's the plan for getting it back to Blackrock?" She glances to the others asking questions, briefly, and then responds aloud to the question regarding Red Squadron's focus. "Red's on intercept activities to hunt down the enemy targets with prejudice and keep the pressure off the convoy and Silver."
---
"Great question. Copy this down. The freq for this operation, which everyone will operate on, is J-45-411-K77. The use of squadron tactical channels is authorized when necessary. The name of this is Operation Pipeline." Poe acknowledges Rey, then Elrycch with a thumbs up, then looks to Ektor. "Right. we need to establish positive ID on their command ship, then we go in guns blazing. Fighters should be tied up with Red and Gold, but I'll do my best to keep baddies off of you. Ultimately, we have to be looking out for each other, we just all have a particular focus." He turned toward Jess. "A boarding party has been scrounged up aboard the Mynock Hunter. If we disable the ship, Mynock Hunter will dock and deploy a crew to get the ship to Blackrock."
---
Karas is quiet allowing his XO to field the questions for them, though he does have a good understanding to their mission, though now as he thinks about this, he will need to speak with the techs, and help with the macitence of their fighters. Even if they are going up against old craft, it's best to make sure everything is in tip top shape.
---
After entering the data, double checking it and then triple checking Kare once again struggles to raise her arm "Load outs? Standard for everyone? Do we have any of those special jobs we used before, those concussion torps to disable the ship?" She asks allowing her arm to fall back ready to enter more data.
---
Ektor cracks a crooked grin at the Major. "Not for nothing, but if this goes like it's planned? I'm gonna be real bored, yeah?" He winces at Kare's question about torpedoes. "All we got are proton torpedoes and concussion missiles. Depending on what kinda freighter-" aside to Poe, "Do we KNOW what kinda freighter?" Anyway, back to Kare, "Anyway! Prolly a couple torpedoes to knock out its shields and big gun emplacements, then switch to ion cannons, and light the Hutt-suckers up until we can fry an egg on their hull plating, yeah?"
---
Kare turns her head to Ektor "Oh Operation Sabre Strike we used some modified concussion missiles to stop the ship, the Hevurion Grace. I was asking if we had any of those," she explains. "After we used those Poe," a flick in his direction "was able to get aboard and take it over." A shrug "Expensive buggers though."
---
Karas takes down the freqs for the HOP, and once he does that, he gets an acknowledgment message from Spark he has the data and will feed that information of the computers in Red Squadron. He gives the droid a nod of his head and as he does he looks back up to Poe as he speaks about their roles. "We will do our best to keep them from getting through." he looks over to where David and Kare are and gives them a nod.
---
There's at least one attentive face in the room that's never sat in a fighter cockpit in her time of service with the Resistance, or Republic, or Rebellion. And if THE General knows what's good for the fleet, it'll never be requested of her. She's a slinky one, that Brig Gen. Greystorm remains standing just inside the doorway, eyes on Poe as she listens quietly and contemplates the numerous occasions he'd interrupted /her/ briefings and conference hours on D'Qar. Those were happier times. Optimistic times. Is she here to get even? Not a peep thus far, so either the old soldier's outgrown such folly, was never wired for it, or she's simply s.o.l. for lack of windows to make faces through.
---
"There will be standard load outs, but Green Squadron's sole purpose in life is disabling that ship. I want you honed in on your objective, just mindful of what's happening around you. Plus that ordnance we used, was expensive. It's cheaper if we use our ion cannons and we'll be less likely to destroy the ship in the process. If we need to make a tactical shift mid-way, like I know we will, then listen for it over comms." Poe shook his head to Ektor. "We're not sure what kind of freighter it is. I will mark it once we've established positive ID, so everyone will see it on their pilot displays. Keep in mind, people, Green Squadron will have the only ships with the means, like Ektor says, of ion cannons. They will not have an easy fight, but Green has never walked away from a challenge. Everyone will have their hands full." Poe raised his hands to lower the volume. "Third and final phase, we reach the jump point. All callsigns will disengage except for Red squadron. Red Squadron will remain long enough to ensure our ships make it out. Once we've verified all ships are out of the system, Red squadron and I will jump back, bringing up the tail of our group. That is the op."
Squadron Leaders, ensure your fighters are ready to go and run last minute calibrations on weapons just in case. We're at alert status yellow, meaning flightsuits are on and we're prepared to launch at any given moment. That means no partaking in those beverages we like.." He looked at Ektor a moment but didn't say anything. "We have our orders. Squadron Leaders if you or your team have questions, I'll stay behind to answer them." He looked to BB-8 and nodded. "Go ahead and cut it, buddy. Hey Ektor.. you guys do well on this, I'll slate green for the bombing run on that pirate base. Does that help motivate you a little more?"
---
The newly minted Lieutenant Commander is also at the back, perched on a chair and situated in a corner so small she might as well be invisible. All by design; she's not here to interrupt the Major's briefing in any way, and if anything, she, too, is taking detailed notes on her datapad - not because she intends to join the current operation, but because she is here as Rear Admiral Delede's aide-de-camp. Dawn has her stylus in hand, summarizing as she listens.
With the briefing winding down, her notetaking slows, green eyes lifting from her screen to regard the other pilots in the room.
---
There it was. The end. Kare remains sitting for a time, checking her notes one final time, well a final time for now any way. At last she drops her feet and scoots up in her chair to stand. An arch of her back and she makes her way to where her droid is "You got all that, Brat?" To which the droid beeps happily "Good, we will double check your's against mine," a shake of her 'pad "just to make sure you didn't forget something." She laughs as the droid beeps and whistles. "Come on, lets go get ready and make sure double checks are done on the ships. It wouldn't look good if half of them suddenly failed to fly."
---
Ektor grins at Kare as she describes the modified missiles, but snaps his fingers in jovial disappointment when Poe points out that they have none. He nods lazily along with the description of phase 3, half turning to snicker toward Dawn, "Schoolgirl, you ain't gotta promise me bigger booms to convince me to bring the boom, yeah?" A little chuckle, until Poe eyes him with the 'staying sober' look. A transparent look of innocence is affected. "Hey, hey, why you looking at me, boss? I would NEVER.." he pauses, and cracks into a chuckle. "Okay, there was that one time- but nah, for real, I hear you, yeah?"
---
Elrych Cometburn sits up and pats Baby's dome. ?Got all that right. We'll look it over later." The shades wearing corellian looks over his shoulder to see Dawn. He gives her a smile and nod. Ektor one as well before looking back to his droid to review the information.
---
Finishing with the information being entered into her datapad, Jessika shuts the item off and stows it into the breast pocket of her flight jacket. She half turns in her seat and motions to Case, who ceases her recording activities. The astromech turns and rolls along the back of the theater seating, and offers a quick trill of acknowledging beeps at the Brigadier General hiding out before passing through the door and heading off to who knows where. Jessika adjusts herself in her seat and continues to watch the proceedings unfold. More questions are asked, of course, and the dimmed lighting comes back to full as Poe begins to contend with the other various questions being brought his way.
---
David stands up, shimmying sideways out from between the rows of desks and chairs. His droid disconnects from the terminal, having stored all tactical information and rolls up to follow Dave on his way out. Apparently there's a yellow alert now, and the LT is off to wear his flightsuit. As he exits, Dawn gets a salute and a lopsided grin. Then he's gone, followed by the beeping R2 unit behind him.
---
"Best of luck to you all," Ambrosia finally pipes up from her wallflower's vantage point. "Mm. I guess that applies to you," she mutters with a downward glance at the passing astromech. As Dave makes his escape though, her arm snaps out, blocking his path with a /gentle/ slap of flash into the young man's chest. No words. Just a smile. It'll feel a touch lighter than he remembered.
---
Poe stays down at the bottom of the row, switching the table off and talking to BB-8. "I know you're worried about it, pal. Everyone will have to pull their weight. Have some faith, and a little hope. It'll work out, and if something happens.. we'll adjust. We always do."
---
Karas leans back in his seat, as the final orders for Red Squadron is given, he nods his head and looks over to Jessika. Karas already knows what to do and he closes his eyes for a long moment allowing himself to rest for now, he knows he will not be leaving the hangar for quite a while. Always has helped with working on his fighters, just something he does to help the techs.
---
Elrych's smile earns him a small grin in return, Dawn easing from her chair so she can tuck her datapad back in the inner pocket of her jacket. With a wave to the rest, she turns to start heading out of the room.
---
Pushing off the wall, grumpy Greystorm brushes Dawn's sleeve with her own lightly in passing and gives the new LtC a look of some sort, like she's trying her hand at a word of telepathy, cept minus the actual ability. Unhurried boots bear her down the aisle's slope toward the packing-up Major and hands return to her pockets. "You find any piratical junkies aboard that freighter, you gonna dump'em out the air lock or bring them back home for a deeper sense of hospitality?"
---
Poe straightens at the sound of the General's voice and turns to face her, wearing his usual contagious grin. "And pass up a chance to bring you a present? Come on, General. I /know/ what makes you happy." His stance shifts a bit, not to comfort but to something a bit more rigid to show respect where it's due. "I'm certain if their nav computer doesn't sing, you might be able to teach the survivors a lesson or two. And they /really/ have been a thorn in our side.."
---
"I /knew/ you had potential," Ambrosia's sinister smile creeps all the way to her eyes and she reaches out to give Dameron's shoulder a squeeze. "Those rats made a real mess out of a perfectly good tourism depot, afterall. Y'know Kort and I stayed at the spa there once...some stupid getaway idea he had to escape the kids. Think it serves a better purpose now, though." With a little wink, she turns to go. "I'll be sure to keep their beds ready'n'warm."
---
"They have no idea what's waiting for them." Poe called after her, chuckling. He turns to see BB-8 just staring at him. "W-what?" Silence from the droid still, and no movement. "Hey, don't look at me in that tone. They /do/ have it coming."
