The Resistance has gained Intelligence pertaining to General Skywalker's wherabouts...but at what cost?
From the turbolift, the deck opens up into a dome. It reveals the glorious length of space above the Assault Frigate. There is a glint and glitter of stars high above, but they don't really offer much light. Instead the dome is kept illuminated with floor-imbedded glowlights.
There are various potted plants here for atmosphere sake, and most of them are kept in rather good condition. Seating of all shapes and comfort are scattered throughout the area. This area is often populated by individuals looking for quiet study, but is also often reserved for social events as well.
Rey turns and moves to seat herself on the edge of the sofa that he indicated. HEr hands go up and she pushes the hood off of her head so she isn't sitting there with a big hood on while the two of them are speaking to one another. Rey's hair is tied back in a braided bun that swirls around the back of her head (some Leia isnpirations in that hairstyle there).
After he speaks that wisdom she softly nods her head, spares a glance to her right toward him and then speaks again. "I feel as though I witnessed things last night that goes against what I grew up believing that the Rebellion would've stood for, which in-turn makes me feel as though the Resistance shouldn't stand to be... that... either." She tells him, her Core Worlds accented voice soft and calm. "I realize that maybe I made a mistake, stepping forward and demanding that the bridge crew tell me where Leia was... but I do not feel as though they should've been suffocated because of my error. Now their screams... are locked inside my head."
Poe breaths deep and then says "You listen to me real close here Rey." there is a seriousness to Poe's tone "You can't blame yourself for someone else killing people." he frowns and leans back and then says "You start doing that and it's a dangerous path.. you start blaming yourself for everyone who dies fighting along side of you. You blame yourself for not getting to those civilians sooner to help them." he curses under his breath "You blame yourself for every loss along the way. It's no way to live Rey."
The Resistance has gained Intelligence pertaining to General Skywalker's wherabouts...but at what cost?
It was bad enough, having to sit out on the main action and observe the little she could from the Renegade, for 'the sake of preserving command in case things went south, but once reports started piling in, things got worse. And now she's got shit to handle. This is precisely why BG Greystorm had remained 'Major' Greystorm for so long...she bloody hates paperwork. And feelings. And yet she's infused with the superpower of mother's intuition and can still tap into the fuzzy databank of 'sap' and THAT is what led her to stand in the Observation dome hatchway this very moment, searching for a face she suspects she'll find here. If still on board at all.
A husky clearing of throat comes from said hatchway, announcing her presence as politely as Rey gets while fixing her emerald stare on one of the two persons conferring quietly on that couch. Target acquired.
As Poe relays that insight to Rey she just sits up a little straight and seems to take it all in in stride, her eyelids flutter a little for a moment before she nods her head once at him, and then a second time as he finishes. "You're right." She says to him then. "I'm going to remember that and attempt to stick to it. Its just... challenging. Up until just a mere handful of weeks ago, my only concern was taking care of myself. Making sure that -I- was the one who was going to suffer and slip away. Now I feel like I suddenly have so many others who need my attention also, or that my actions will effect?" She glances away again for a second before looking back at hom. "Its foreign to me."
When the throat clear is made, Rey's brown eyes look offer to her right and beyond her shoulder to where the General was. Rey would move to stand up then, her pale blue cape settling against her shoulders as she rose up once more. "Ma'am." Rey says to Amber.
As Rey stands Poe follows suit. He rests a hand on her back gently and says quietly "If you figure out how to make it through it all without taking the losses on yourself let me know." he gives a weak smile "I'm still trying to figure it out myself."
Poe gives Amber a lazy salute and says "General I think that you're just in time. Rey and I were having a conversation about how this stupid war is fought." he shrugs "You have more 'experience' at it than I do." he gives Amber a mischevious little smile and a wink.
"At ease," Amber dips a perpetually stern brow to meet Poe's wink. "I'm 'old'. I know it. No need to sugar coat it with that guilded tongue of yours..." It might be that she's offered the young man a wink right back, but considering her history of neurologic issues post death, who's to say? "Why you think Leia appointed me to this position? S'her way of putting a gal out to pasture."
Haha right.
"Rey, I can't make excuses for how Colonel Yavok handled himself, so I'm not gonna try. War is full of death. It's the nature of the thing. But a seasoned soldier ought to understand when it's necessary and when it isn't. I wish I could say I remember and feel remorse for all those I've lain out over the last..." she trails off for a moment, squinting an eye upward at the stars "kriff almost forty years, but I don't. Maybe I used to, I don't remember. All I can say is there ain't any faces comin' round to haunt me in the dead of sleep. Might make me a bad person...might just mean I've been in the game too long and I'm good at what I do." She shrugs. "But I /can/ acknowledge that those cooperative members of Incarceration's bridge crew should have been bound and brought back as prisoners, to be held until the General is back in our custody so when they inevitably tattle back to master supreme &@$*& about their encounter with our search party, it won't have spoiled the surprise. I'm sorry you had to see one of the dark shadows cast by the light we strive to uphold. I'm sorry it was there. It shouldn't have been."
Rey smiles over at Poe, he was charming and she heard the others talk about it all the time but getting to spend some time around him just made it all the more obvious to her. "I'll see what I can do." Was her reply to the Pilot before she looked back to Ambrosia and listened closely to the general.
Rey's hands come together in front of her, poking out from beneath the hem of her cape she interlaces her fingers together. "Thank you, ma'am, for saying that." And with a breath taken, Rey looks over to Poe again and then softly shakes her head and looks back to Amber. "Based on my converation with the Colonel daughter earlier... I think it best that I steer clear of joining in on any missions. It seems as though people still... are not comfortable with a Force user amidst them, they seem to hold a grudge toward the concept. I don't want to distract the members of your team anymore than I clearly already have."
"If they feel that I'm a hinderance... which at least some of them do, then I should stay back." Rey speaks softly. "At least until its time for me to leave." She clears her throat. "I tried to help... I tried to use my training to keep them safer. But, maybe its just not my place to do that.
Poe nods as he listens to Amber. The major frowns heavily as Amber talks about the events from the other evening. He crosses his arms in front of his chest and says "I'm certainly not proud of all the actions that I've taken in the course of this fight." he frowns and says "Although some actions that are taken are darker than others." he gives Amber a look.
"Rey, one thing you shouldn't do is hide who you are or think that your presence isn't welcomed." he is very upset by this thought "If it weren't for you the resistance would have died on Crait. We never would have escaped those caves." there is a deep breath "The force is part of this universe and those that don't want to accept that are living with their heads in the sand."
"Dameron's got it right," The graying blonde gives credit where it's due, surprisingly enough, with a wagged finger in his direction. "We're all a little squirrely, maybe, still recovering from our...our own losses." Ambrosia wets her lower lip with a flit of tongue and cuts a hard look aside to recover her wavering sense of composure. "But they should not have shunned your contribution. That.../girl/ Yavok brought on board is certainly not of any authority to tell you what it is you do with your time here. Some of us are 'mature' enough to remember the Jedi for what they were...what we heard and understood them to be, at any rate, before the concept became abhorred. I was present to witness some of Skywalker's contributions to the rebellion. The Force, whatever it is, was wise enough to pass me by," she takes a few long strides into the dome, fingering something under her collar and jiggling it out into the light.
It is a ring, bent and a little melty, strung on a chain. Are those wings etched into the signet? Or a tree. "When it trickled along from a bloodline dating back at least 1200 years...so I've come to learn. There was a Jera Aderanne. Staring at the statue guarding her tomb was like staring into the mirror," her lips crack an odd sort of smile. "Her gift does not run in my veins. But it passed through me into my son. Such a thing was secret for a long time, the signs were there sure, but...we chose to ignore it. He's coming to terms with it now, as his own man, and it frightens me like none other to know that's something I cannot protect him from. Or guide him through. So /this/ soldier of the Resistance is damn glad that there are still someones like him who can." And on that note, she's within touching distance, and offers the young woman an awkward, stiff sort of arm pat. She's not good at this sorta thing.
Both of what they have to say is listened to, they were veterans here and Rey admired their feedback, their wisdom, their input and however else you want to describe, she was eager to hear it and learn from it.
After a second or so beyond Amber's awkward, but awesome, touch, Rey smiles at the woman and glances to Poe. "I've struggled to find my place in this, since leavue Jakku. Every time I feel as though I've figured it out... even just a few steps toward it... it feels like the rug is pulled out from beneath my feet and I'm sent tumbling once more into a different place."
Her stare goes from Poe, back to Amber... to that locket the General holds, clearly dear to her. "Ma'am." Rey starts. "I do not think that the Force passed through you and left you without its gifts." A breath is drawn in, a single nod is sent at Amber. "You said it yourself, you've been at this for four decades. The war, the fighting. And what is the phrase that has been uttered throughout it, all these years prior to every mission you've undergone?" She glanced to Poe. "May the Force be with you."
She looks back to Amber then. "I think its strong in you. That phrase is mean to be a comfort, to guide us through the challenges we're to face and to help us overcome it. You've done that now for enough hears to double my lifetime. The Force is strong in your, General."
And with that said, Rey just shows a faint smile then to the both of them. "I will remain here, to help where you both feel I can."
Poe smiles calmly at Amber. "I didn't know about your lineage Amber." he smiles knowing that she hates being called that. "I'm tahnkful that you didn't get the gift..." he holds up a hand "...If you did I wouldn't be able to sneak any sort of presents into your bunk." he grins before he looks over to Rey "You stick with me Rey. You and I can do a lot of good work around here." he looks to Amber and says "Admiral Delede has the starfighter Corps running pretty smoothly. It may be time for me to assemble a black team again... And trying to rescue the General seems like an excellent first task."
"There's a whole lotta folks best be thankful," 'Amber' darkly intones. She doesn't seem to buy far into Rey's assertion that the Force IS within her. "Now, assurances and apologies aside, if and when you are in the company of a senior officer, you look to them for instruction during Operations. Like...him," a vague gesture to Poe's radiant aura as she stuffs the ring away against down in the cranny that no one's going to pilfer. "Ideally, we hold briefings beforehand so everyone knows their assignments and what's to be expected. Sometimes there's no time for that. If ever in doubt as to your place while on mission, ask the officer in charge. Intuition's good and sometimes it's all we've got, but it /can/ be faulty. I do speak from experience. Rest assured, Colonel Yavok will be reprimanded for his lapse in judgement and leadership." There. She's placated, she's lectured, damage controlled. Check check. Gaze shifts from Rey to Poe. "Indeed it does. I believe there was something else bordering on 'important' that Flight Officer Xiptil waas trying to bring to my attention before the AARs started trickling into my desk. Should probably touch base with her, too." And then there's the matter of Sar. Amber's least favorite item on her new to-do list. She's gonna need a stiff drink before that tete a tete happens.
A little nod is given over to Ambrosia then. "If I do go on another mission... I will be sure to defer more closely to the mission leader's orders, ma'am, and thank you for coming to me to discuss all of this. It means a lot." Rey breathed a little easier then before she looked to Poe once more. "I'm getting more and more comfortable in that X-wing I plucked from the sea, I wish I could say that I'd be there to fly for you in whatever squadron you're considering putting together again... but once Leia is returned to us, I might have to leave again and I won't know when I'll return."
Part of her dislikes that, a lot, she'd read about the Rebel Alliance since she was a little girl. She even had a doll created out of an X-wing Flightsuit made to look like a pilot back in that dusty old burnt-out AT-AT she called hom, and now? She was immersed in them, felt as though she was apart of it. It was like she'd fallen asleep in the desert sands one night and had been lost in a dream ever since!
"I'm more than happy to fly with you until then, Major Dameron." She tells the older man with a soft smile.
"Black squadron isn't truly a squadron of fighters Rey. It's a group of people that we've deemed suitable for air and ground work. We usually execute special missions that we don't want to dedicate the full attention of our forces to." he frowns and says "I hate to say it but the resistance has matters that it has to deal with outside of the Generals disappearance." he shrugs "With General Greystorms permission I'll put together a team and we'll start working on tracking down the general Organa."
Rey gives a look to Poe and nods her head a single time. "I'd be more than willing to help you with mission you think I might be fit for, Major." She tells him. "I promise not to push you to any limits where you commit horrid acts of murder and blame it on me... call it a personal life goal of mine going forward."
It was Amber's words that drew her attention back to the General though and her expression falls evenly once more, though almost shocked. "I was right then." She quietly says, biting her lower lip once more and shaking her head from right to left. Rey's eyes glance toward the windows out into space. "She's with 'him'." She says softly then. "The monster."
Dameron sighs and gives Amber a Salute "General I suppose I'll let you get back to your other duties. If what you're saying is true I need to get a team put together and figure out a way to get on and off that blasted ship." he looks to Rey and says "I'll absolutely want you along on this mission... The last time I met up with that man it was... " the pilot shivers and then says "... not a good experience."
"Yeah, I think there're more than a few folks who can attest to that," Amber mutters, then mirrors the salute. "Good luck. Both of you. Just keep us updated." Then she's gone, marching back into the corridor to tackle the next task. "We'll get her back!" A promise left hanging in her wake that she can only hope to keep.
Rey's eyes go to Poe and she has a sympathetic look for him, she hadn't known that he'd spent time around Kylo but it sounas as though... he had. "I've beaten him before." She says softly to him. "I'll do it again. His overconfidence is his weakness, and I don't fear him even in the slightest." How could shee? She's seen him with his shirt off and in his high-waisted pants... Talk about memories that haunt poor Rey's mind!
A nod and another little smile is given to the General. "Thank you, ma'am, again... I'll probably say it a hundred more times." Rey sighs softly then and looks out toward the stars once more.
