Resistance: Pirates Booty
OOC Date: November 7, 2015
Location: An undisclosed asteroid.
Participants: Aola Zivery, Gren Delede, Jax Greystorm, Karas Darkwing, Triz Dermout, Kath Hounds
It isn't often that a mission takes the Kath Hounds off-moon, but here they are, out on the edges of the Outer Rim. The mission was a simple enough one...attacking an asteroid mining base inhabited by a squadron of shady mercs that moonlight as pirates when the mood strikes them. The base itself is a large rock with a docking bay and living quarters carved out...it has automated defenses, and a mine field full of a dozen or so laser cannon equipped mines, defending it. As well as what are likely to be some pissed off pirates. Once the defenses have been suppressed or eliminated, Starburst is set to come in with Troopers. Intel has the base being loaded with Galactic Civil War era spare parts...just the sort of thing the Hounds need to stay flying.
Spark Leader is flying point, and is the tip of the spear as the Resistance starfighters transition from Lightspeed. <<<Spark Leader. Did everyone make it?>>> His inquiry is automatic, and he's already checking scanners, and taking stock of the distance to their target. Hint: It's right bloody in front of them. A few minutes at full throttle, and they'll be entering the outer envelope of its defenses. A switch is thrown, and the X-wing's s-foils begin to unfold into attack position. He will not be offering their targets a chance to surrender.
Corsair 1 was packed in tight behind Spark 1 and flying the A-wing version of everthing can do I can do better, i.e. playing follow the leader with Captain Delede. He was using Spark 1 to hide his signal and cover his mass. "Corsair Leader here I'm on your six. Prepping a nasty surprise for our Friends."
<<Spark 4 right with you, Boss>> Replies Triz as she brings her ship back to the right wingman's position on Lead. She checks all her systems and also unfolds her S-Foils. Checking the scanner display which shows nothing of interest to her at the moment. <<All systems go>> she adds. She glances over to the A-Wing as it is in position but then it's back to Gren's ship and her scans.
The laser mines begin to scatter fire in the direction of the approaching starfighters, but the defenses on the base itself have not quite got the range to hit them at this point. The asteroid does begin to light up on the starfighters' scanners. Snubfighters are beginning to appear, scrambling to defend their home against the interloping Resistance force. It quickly becomes clear that these pirates for hire don't mind mixing and matching their equipment. A hodgepodge of old, but well-maintained ships are present. The first to launch are a quartet of T-65c X-wings, followed closely by a pair of truly Z-95 Headhunters. They scoot toward the opposite side of the asteroid, likely looking to form up before they strike. They are not yet in range.
<<<And, we've got company...Corsair. Pop the Headhunters. Spark. It's time for a twinfight. Let them come to us.>>> Smiling behind his blast shield, Gren's eyes go to his scanners at the urging of his R2 unit. The little bugger is chirping away in the back. "I'll tell them, fucking hell...." <<<Can says that he's pretty sure they've got more prepping to launch. So, keep your eyes peeled.>>> His laser cannons bark fire, as he takes a few ranging shots at the mines that they are rapidly closing with. The fragile mines go poof.
This is the first mission with the new unit, a bit different because he's flying an older model X-Wing, but still it handles pretty good. His astromech did get sent ahead of him and with some modifications, it was ready. Sitting in the pilot seat, he smiles as he manuvers his fighter into formation with the others. <<Spark 3 is here and ready to go>> he says into the comms. As the permission is given, eh flips the switch and the strike foils of his X-Wing engages smoothly. His hand is on the stick as the mission data comes up on the data display and HUD.
The A-wing, Corsair 1 breaks off from behind where it was hiding from Spark 1, <<Aye, Aye Two dead hunters coming up.>> Jax says as he fires at a pair of mines. He adjusts his shield as he begins to speed toward the pair of Z-95s. <<Happy Hunting Sparks. Don't worry I'll help up with any mop up.>> He says with a laugh in his voice, cocky sure but a bit of rivarly between squads was healthy.
<<Roger that, Lead>> replies Triz as she takes aim at a couple of mines. Easy picking as they are stationary. "R2, set deflector shields, hold on lil buddy," the little R2 unit beeps back at her as she watches the two mines she targeted and shot at go up in matching puffs. She reaches out and twists the range dial for the scanner for a longer range setting, trying to keep an eye, so to speak, on the X-Wings. A glance outside her cockpit as she looks at Karas's ship which is just off her wing <<Don't worry, Slick, if they get to close I'll handle them for you.>> As the coms clicks off there can be a bit of laughter heard. While not replying to Jax she does smirk at his comment. Though she does have to fight the urge to do so.
The pirate flight re-appears, and they are in visual range. And weapons range. They slingshot around from under the asteroid, and burn up toward the Resistance starfighters. They all begin to spit laser fire at their targets. A pair of X-wings have decided to target the lone A-wing, while the Headhunters and remaining pair of T-65's focus on Spark Squadron. Another trio of sensor blips appear from the launch bay. A pair of Y-wings, and a Skipray seem to be entering the fray, though they have yet to actively engage.
Missile lock warnings begin to scream in the Resistance cockpits. A load of missile launchers are actively trying to find targets.
Karas isn't a stranger to combat at all, he sees Triz fighter off to his left, he laughs at her comment. <<Good, I don't know what I would do if you weren't here." he says to Triz. He rolls his fighter quickly snapping off a few shots. Two red streaks hit two of the mines he targeted, he watches them explode, "Valkyrie keep me appraised of our twins. I want to know as soon as they are in range." he says to his R2.
<<<Break and engage...>>> Gren begins to give the order, and already has his target picked out. The lead X-wing that has decided to play. He's snap-rolled out of his target's erratic laser fire, and is just on the verge of lining up a burst of his own...***BEEEEP BEEEP BEEEP**** Missile warnings fill his cockpit, and he's going evasive, throwing his T-65 into a sharp turn, while he looks in as many directions as he can, searching for the incoming warhead. He's mashes is rudder down...<<<Warheads incoming!>>> and spins about until the incoming missile is coming straight at his bird's nose. His first burst is inaccurate, and the concussion missile is a few meters away when his second burst detonates it. His shields flare, but hold, and his starfighter rocks. He's on the defensive, and the pirate X-wing is on his six. "Can! Stop screaming!"
Fortunate today it seems where there's one spark, there's more. Seemingly having been shadowing the flight for security or perhaps her X-Wing had merely gone unnoticed, the blue-skinned Twi'lek pilot of Spark 3 banks around to engage. Gripping the controls tight, Aola smirks a little and exhales a breath. Once more into the fray!
<Resistance> Oh Shist! Rake says, "A-wings have very minimal shields and almost no armor, they DID have ECM systems though, that made it very difficult to get a target lock on them (basically negated most fire control bonuses)"
Jax's cockpit fills briefly with the beeping of a target lock. The pilot rolls to the right and goes zipping past one of the Z-95 to break up the lock. His laser glance off the shield of the Z-95. Then the A-wing snaps around up and under the other Z-95. His canons flip up and firing at the second Z-95. The second Z-95 exploding. There's a hoot in the cockpit, "Damn I missed that!" He had enough decorrum not to broadcast that.
Triz's R2 is beeping like crazy "Got it, R2," she says as she rolls her ship and with a snap shot tries to shoot the missile down. Her shot goes well wide, missing everything, not even even a chance to hit one of the mines that dot the space. "Damnit!" she says and quickly fires once again. This time her shot strikes the missile and the debris peppers her ship "Damn, that was close," she says to her R2 unit that seems to be beeping madly at her. She jerks her ship back the other way "Find me one of those twins, and get me the hell back into this fight!" Twisting her head about she is flying outside her canopy and looking to get on the attack mode.
Karas keeps close to his wingman, Valkyrie notifies him of the closest target. "Keep it coming." he calls to his R2. He rolls his fighter right and as he does, in mid-roll his fires off a few shots. He knows he is just barely within range but he does see his lasers hit against the X-Wings shields. <<Alright, keep it close Spark 4, I got yoru back.>> he calls to his wingman.
The missile locks continue, and the launches are clearly marked as coming from launchers installed on the asteroid base itself by various astromechs in the X-wings. Hopefully the A-wing pilot is watching his scanners. Poor lonely soul.
The pirates continue to chase their various targets, the lone Headhunter turns on Jax, while he also finds himself under fire from the Skipray that's arrived on scenes. Ion bolts, and laser cannons track the nimble starfighter unsuccessfully. The X-wings target their own, while Spark 1 and 4 also pick up an extra attacker a piece, in the form a Y-wing.
<<<Starburst will be in-system shortly. We need to clear these assholes, out.>>> Gren's voice crackles over the comms...he's wrestling with the X-wing on his six, so he might sound slightly distracted. Spark Leader's engines glow bright as skims in close to the asteroid base, trying to spoof the missile launchers searching for him, and confuse the multiple bandits after him. A quick burst at one of the four visible launchers ends in an explosion, and one less defensive system. A whoop from Can indicates his success as he's flashing past the wrecked installation. A quick jink, and spin, and he's grinning. A second stab at the trigger, and a quad burst drills straight through the shields, and into the cockpit of the X-wing that'd been his most pressing predator. <<<Splash one.>> A brief pause...<<< Stay with me, 2>>>
Jax curses, "Emperor's black bones, where is Exine when I need him?" He says as he breaks a target lock as he dances with the Z-95. It's about that time an ion blast goes zipping past him. His eyes fall to the scopes for a moment, << Corsair Leader, We got a Skipray here. Keep your heads on a swivel." He says breaking off at the last moment to fire a couple of blasst at the Z-95. The first over shooting the second a solid score and damage but not enough to put the Z-95 out of the fight. "I have you now."
That X-Wing? It just might want her dead. Can't be having that now... Hearing the caution to her over the coms she banks around and squeezes the triggers, pounding the hostile X-Wing with blaster fire that shatters shields and sheers off one of those S-Foils. "Just letting them think they have a chance Spark leader," she calls back, violet eyes narrowed with focus at her foe.
<<Roger that, Slick, I kinda got my hands full at the moment, though,>> Replies Triz from Spark 4. Just then her ship is rocked and her shields light up from another missile. She quickly checks her system as her R2 unit beeps "See what you can do to increase the shields, these guys are good and they have a load of missiles." As the R2 tells her that there are now two ships after her, using her thrusters and stick Triz's X-Wing seems to spin in space. As the nose of Spark 4 points at the Y-Wing. "Gottcha," she says right before pulling the trigger. Her blasts go out and the Y-Wing's shield flare and goes out. R2 tells her that the Y-Wings shields are gone in a series of excited beeps. Triz mean while noses her ship down and applies full thrust to try to dive under the two ships that are attacking her and possibly confusing the missile sites that are firing at them.
Karas was under heavy fire, the fighters alert systems began goign off with his astromech warning him too, <<SHIT!>> he growls out as he snap rolls and dives. <<COming back around Spark 4, goign to cover your wing, get the idiot that just fired on me and I will take the one covering him.>> he calls out to Triz. Karas pulls back and does a half loop and roll to get back into position.
<<<Bantha fodder for brains...WHY ARE YOU EVEN ATTACKING US?!!>>> This somewhat frantic transmission appears to have been sent over open channels from the asteroid field. The speaker seems genuinely confused. It doesn't keep the pirates from fighting any less fiercely, though. Their number have taken a hit, and they haven't done much damage...but they are still plenty dangerous. Laser blasts, and missiles streak across the void, narrowly missing friend and foe alike. The dogfight shifts, and targets change at a moment's notice, but everyone is getting shot at. Karas seems to have drawn the ire of a Y-wing, in addition to the X-wing that he's been engaged with, while Gren's gotten himself entangled with the undamaged Y-wing, and Spark 2's target. Jax is still being tracked by the Skipray's turrets, and his own Headhunter.
<<<Ignore them, Hounds...>>> Gren cautions over the comms, while swallowing a bit. That voice sounds slightly familar, and he doesn't like it. He's able to very narrowly avoid the fire coming his way. Another burst of scarlet fire tears apart a second missile launcher before Spark Leader pulls away from the surface of the asteroid. A flick of a switch, and his own warhead targeting system is active. His crosshairs settle just in front of the slow, but tough Skipray that's doggedly shooting at Corsair Leader. A steady TOOOOONNNNEEEE, and he squeezes the trigger. A pair of blue warheads burn through the sky before impacting the heavy fighter with a bright flash of light. <<<Skipray, Corsair? Don't see one anymore.>>> "Spark 2 killed her target yet, Can?" A negative hoot that sounds irritated from the R2. Okay. So MAYBE Delede should've finished off her X-wing, before helping Jax.
Fortunately, that particular little blue Twi'lek is somewhat vengeful when it comes to people who shoot at her. The barrage of blaster-fire shatters the cockpit of her target and punches further, into the engine compartments where it ruptures something important and sends the hostile X-Wing exploding in a shower of vacuum snuffed-out flames and shrapnel. Sweeping under the debris, Aola brings her X-Wing around to reengage. "Scratch another."
Jax is flying circles around the Skipray as Ion Blast fill space. Then rolling behind the Z-95, he thumbs the trigger and the Z-95 goes up in a ball of fire. Jax hitting rudder paddles, "Okay where's that Skipray?" About the time the patrol craft explodes. He calls out, << Thanks Bossman. You got something on our tail. Let me return the favor.>> Then with a roll he goes sweeping past the enemy X-wing opening fire, leaving the enemy X-wing in a pitful shape. <<Just don't feel right doing this to T-65cs. Why can't they fly imperial tech like good pirates.>> From afar, Karas Darkwing (Kar) will pose after you.
As Triz is able to dive under the two attackers she pulls back on the stick pulling a very tight loop. Coming up and over the two that were trailing her, Spark 4 targets the Y-Wing again, Both blasts striking the ship and erupting it in a huge fireball that she dives right through. <<Yee Hah! Splash one Y>> she calls out over the coms as she turns back to her left, a turn that will try to throw off any pursuit and possible get her on the tail of the X-wing that was bearing down on her.
Karas after having to evade like mad from the missle that locked on to him, he comes around flying tight cover over Spark 4. He jerks hsi controls up moving above her and fires rapidly at the X-Wing that was trailing the Y-Wing. The shot isn't good, but he does dust the shields and cockpit. <<4 X-Wing behind the Y.>> he calls out to his wingman, <<Valkyrie, get me a targetting solution quick.>> he calls to his astromech as he quickly tracks another fighter but not going after it.
The pirate numbers have dwindled, and their defenses stand at a lot of not very dangerous mines, three missile launchers, a scrappy Y-wing, and an almost scrapped X-wing dueling with Karas. Or rather, trying to survive. Jax smashed him pretty good when he'd been chasing Spark Lead. The Y-wing seems to be trying to run as quickly as its litte engine pods can carry it, while the X-wing pilot seems to realize he's unlikely to win. But, he's also pretty sure these people came here to murder them all, and isn't surrendering that easily. In the distance, there is a flash of light, as another ship transits from Lightspeed.
<<<Wishbone down...>>> Gren states calmly, despite actually just beginning his attack run on the antique fighter-bomber. The gunner is still shooting, so it is still a valid target, right? The fast X-wing swoops in close, and unleases a heavy volume of fire, sheering off an engine pod, and tearing a hole in the cockpit. At that range, the shields didn't do much good. <<<Let's clear out those missile launchers, folks. I'm ready to see what we won.>>> Can makes a little bleep and a bloop...<<<And, Starburst has arrived.>>> The troop transport is rather fast, actually. And its approach is apt to be swift. So time was of the essence.
The A-Wing was a superior space interceptor against Snub fighters, agaisnt ground targets such as rocket launchers not so much. The limping X-wing continues to fight along and Corsair 1 criss crosses it taking out both s-foil and engines as he fires the old X-wing explodes. Then rolling into formation on the Wing of Triz. The fellow Corsec Pilot holds up his right hand with 3 fingers extended for his kill count. He salutes her and the rolls away.
Watchign as the X-Wing Karas was dueling with goes up into a fireball, Karas throttles up as he send a flurry of red needles knitting a missle turret with destructive power. Grinning, <<Ok missle launcher down.>> He hasn't gotten any enemy fighter kills, but defenses he's got plenty. Still he looks over to check on Spark 4 smiling and seeing she is doing alright. <<Whats next?>>
With no idea where the X-Wing that was with the Y-Wing on her tail went, Triz sees the last X-wing blow up from Jax's shot sho she dives down at the missile launchers. She aims it as Spark 4 screams down and at the last minute Triz pulls the trigger and then back on the stick. With a gleem of satisfaction <<Missle site down>> she calls out. Triz just flips off the A-wing pilot and shakes her head with a grin.
