Log:Resistance: Calamari Convoy
Resistance SFC defends Mon Calamari refugees
OOC Date: April 2, 2018
Location: Munto Codru Space
Participants: Ektor, Dosk, Karas, Rey, The Resistance
The alarms for a rapid response scramble of starfighters were the first and only notice the pilots had; they would be briefed quickly after launch and immediately before the hyperspace jump. <<A convoy of Calamari freighters are under attack by First Order fighters in the Codru System. Get there, now.>>
Ektor had just landed at the end of an uneventful patrol and climbed down the ladder of his Y-wing
when the alarm went out. He hollers at his gunner who had just gotten onto the ladder, "Back in the
bird! Get back in the bird!" He scrambles right back up the ladder, waving off the ground crew who
were approaching for the routine post-flight maintenance. "So sad, gotta run. Later, yeah?" Sliding
back into the still warm pilot's seat, he fires the engines back up with a soothing whisper, and
locks the armored canopy back down. Promptly lifting off and re-launching, the Tionese pilot punches
in the hyperspace coordinates and reports, <<Green Two, standing by for jump.>>
Dosk had just been leaving his quarters, getting ready to head for a meal at the mess hall when the
alarm goes off. "Goddamn it." He says, turning around and rushing to his locker to grab his
flightsuit. Half hop, half running down the cooridor until he gets the suits legs on at which he can
keep up a more consistant pace while sliding each of his four arms into place. Luckily for him, Dar
is prepping the ship as the Codru Ji comes screeching to a halt infront of Green 3 and begins
climbing aboard and buckling himself in with a couple of hands, while another secures the cockpit
and his fourth starting to get the ship off the ground. "Great job Dar. Lets go help your people out.
" he hollars up to the gunner as he pushes forth the throttle and takes off. <<Green Three here,
forming up on you Green Two.>>
Karas was already in the fighter hangar bay with his other squamate when the alarms go off, "Kriff,
time to load up." he calls to his wingman as they both rush up the fighters ladder. Already in their
flight suits, both A-Wings were fueled, charged and fully armed. This is going to be a fun day it
seems, he wasn't looking forward to going on patrol, but this seems more interesting. <<Blue
Squadron ready for launch.>> he calls into his comms. Once the deck officer clears Blue Squadron,
both A-Wings take off exiting the Renegade. Is coordinates are issued, Karas quickly inputs the
information and both he and his wingman are ready, <<All Flights report in when ready.>> he calls
over the SFC tactical channel.
Rey had been on the Renegade for just a few hours, she'd come by to check with a high ranking member
of the Resistance fleet on something regarding her work on Kashyyk... she was embroiled in a
diplomatic mission there and she was in the process of learning quite a lot on how to deal with such
things.
Rey was already inside her X-wing when the alert had gone out, she could hear the voices over the radio communicator and she was looking around to the other pilots who were scrambling. She keys up the comms to speak over them. <<Silver One here, I was on my way out but I can spare some time to join you guys if you need the assistance?>> She asks them all.
The Codru system is the midpoint for hyperspace travel moving from Calamari toward Pakuuni and the
Outer Rim. Since the recent Battle of Mon Cal, it has been a crucial vein for Calamari ships seeking
to escape First Order domination, and today the enemy intends to sever this vein.
Upon exiting hyperspace, four Mon Cal freighters are clearly visible by their distinctive organic
profiles: one heavy freighter, identified as the Kaniku Major uses its bulk in an attempt to shield
three smaller ships from the strafing runs of nine TIE/fo fighters. A few laser turrets on the
Calamari ships blast away at the swarming fighters, but the defensive fire is being overwhelmed by
the unrelenting waves of green lasers raining down on the convoy. All four freighters are damaged,
the Kaniku Major worst of all.
<<Eh, drek,>> Ektor curses at the sight, as his Y-wing's engines flare with orange life, rocketing
the old fighter/bomber toward the wheeling triads of TIEs. <<Green Two, closing to engage.>> He
attempts a torpedo lock on one of the TIEs, which the nimble craft avoid, though it does get their
attention: Green 2 takes a hit to the forward shields.
Dosk's Y-Wing exits hyper just after Ektor and still somewhat in formation with him. <<Looks like
we got our work cut out for us. Copy Green Two, closing as well.>> Radioing as he pulls up to try
and get a bead on an incoming TIE, but it juts out of his sights before he can get a lock as Dar
lays on the Ion, but not hitting anything. <<Ones on us>> the Mon Cal calls down to Dosk as green
bolts wizz by the cockpit.
Coming out of hyperspace Blue Squadron forms up, the Mon Cal ships are designated as friendlies on
his scopes, Po-Sre comms letting him know she has done the same. <<Alright all wings move in, Green
Squadron we will try to get you guys a opening, you cover the Freighters as best you can.>> he comms
to the Y-Wing squadron as both A-Wings takes off, both racing towards the enemy TIE's. Karas is able
to get a bead on the Lead TIE and fire, watching the rapid shots of the A-Wings lasers blow through
and heavily damage the TIE, Karas is about to have Blue 2 finish it, but he sees the hit Blue 2
takes, <<Break and get those repairs done, quickly.>> he calls to his wingman knowing he will have
to try to cover it and keep the TIESs off it.
Rey arrives on the tail-end of the rest of the Resistance fighters. Her X-wing pops out of
hyperspace and she's looking over the situation ahead of them. Mon Calamari freighters... those poor
people could really use a 'win' and she's well aware of that, their world was one of the more
gorgeous she's seen so far, but then again she's become a big fan of oceans and water so thats a
given for that planet with her.
When the fighting kicks-in Silver Leader's wings split open and Rey angles her ship in the direction
of the incoming fighters. TIE lasers start to zip past her. <<Heavy fire...>> Rey is saying over the
comms and her ship is struck by two hits that splash off of her shields causing Artoo to whislte
loudly. "Hang in there, try to get the shields back up to full, Artoo!" She tells the droid while
she spins her ship in evasive maneuvers.
It takes time for reinforcements to arrive at such a skirmish. Messages must be sent and received,
ships must plot courses and navigate hyperspace. Thus, the Resistance pilots might be forgiven a
moment of shock when a trio of TIE/sf fighter/bombers emerge into Codru space so soon after their
own arrival. The trio of special forces craft (Resistance targeting computers label them Gamma 1, 2,
and 3) arrive on the far side of the convoy from the ongoing dogfight, promptly lining up for a
missile run at the wounded freighters.
<<Green Two, I read three light bombers at mark oh-one, twenty kliks off; Blue Leader, can you get
to them in time?>> Ektor prompts over the comms, remembering to close the channel before giving a
loud curse. "You get the feeling we been set up?" he asks of his gunner, as the old Y-wing rakes a
passing TIE with its cannons, the gunner following up with a square hit from the ion turret. "Great,
Kafzhoth, give it to the Hutt-suckers hard, yeah?"
Dosk watches Karas race forward and rip hard into a TIE "Wow!" He says to his gunner while trying
to line up another shot. Yet the TIE yet again dodges out of sight as green bolts continue to fly
alongside his cockpit, Dar informs the Codru'Ji that the the enemy is still behind them as the
turreted ION continues to fire at it, all misses. These pilots were tough.
Karas keeps with the TIE he damaged, it's designated as TIE 1. As the TIE tries to evade, the more
faster and nimbler A-Wing with Karas as the controls, weave and dives with it. Once he has a lock,
Karas presses the triggers and fires another rapid salvo of laser bolts destroying Gamma 1.
Having dove and banked towards the freighters, Blue 2 is able to get their fighter under control
and as TIE 2 comes in he is able to fire and heavily damaged the TIE, <<Good shot Blue 2, keep it up.
>> Karas calls to his wingman.
Rey had every intention of going after the bombers threatening the MOn Cal freighters. She was
experienced enough (mostly through simulations ran in her Y-wing sim pod back on Jakku) to know that
the Bombers had to get destroyed priority-wise... But she was under some pretty heavy firepower
right now!
Looking right, then left, Rey peers out of her X-wing flight helmet's visor to try to track the
enemies chasing her. "I know the Shields are almost gone, I'm trying to evade them!" She shouts at
Artoo. "Focus them full aft if they're on our tail, you know this stuff better than I do!" Artoo was
one of the most experienced astromech droids around afterall!
The lead Calamari ship- a badly battered Clearwater-class freighter- draws near the hyperspace
beacon. <<This is the Keelkana. We have reached the beacon and are clear for hyperspace jump.
Initializing now, Keelkana, out.>> The laser turret on the freighter continues lending it's slight
power to the fight until the very instance the freighter streaks into hyperspace. One Mon Cal ship
is safe, but three remain with the trio of light bombers bearing down on them. <<This is the Kaniku
Major; they're locking missiles on us, all auxiliary power to the shields!>> Rey's X-wing has
taken hits doing it, but now streaks toward the oncoming trio of TIE/sf craft.
<<Green Two to Blue Leader, you hear me? If those torpedoes land, the Cal are dead, yeah? Can you
bust that lock?>> Dodging through the dogfight with all the agility that can be coaxed out of the
old warhorse, Ektor's Y-wing avoids another hit, but just barely.
Dosk moves to stay within relative distance with Green 2 as he does a few split S maneuvers and
lines up a shot on a passing TIE. Squeezing the trigger and landing a glancing blow with his lazers
as his gunner Dar takes an opprotunity from the stunned First Order pilot's dodge error and lights
into it with the Ions, sending a volley of blue bolts into the target, causing electrical webbing to
spread across it, probably causing at least a few systems to shut down as it begins moving around
eratically.
Karas sees that there are two TIE S/F damaged and begins trying to track the second one, but he
over throttles and shoots past the damn fighter, though as he tries to break right and re-engage he
hears Ektor's quarry, << I got ya, Blue 2, throw up jamming so the bombers cant get a lock.>> both
of Blue Squadrons A-Wings quickly begin using the sensor jammers on their fighters, granted both
pilots failed to re-acquire targets, they are quickly working on trying to jam the the bombers,
hopefully and with the Force willing is able to do this.
Rey's X-wing goes into a full spin (cause its a good move!) to dodge incoming TIE fighter lasers
then she sweeps the fighter around the portside of one of the Mon Cal freighters likely freaking out
the people inside of it more than they already were in this heated fight for survival.
She comes up behind the First Order bomber craft and tries to line up a warhead. "Lets see how they
like this..." Rey mutters through gritted teeth while she waits for a solid lock and then releases a
missile at the Bomber! She twists the flight-yoke of her ship and comes up high in time to see the
torpedo detonate behind the TIE, damaging it, but not destroying it, she goes into evasive manuevers
to avoid its turret fire!
The Mon Cal are generally a stoic species. Thus, the edge of alarm in the voice of its captain is chilling as the Kaniku Major
broadcasts, <<Concussion missiles inbound, all hands->> the captain lacks any viable order for what
lies ahead, as sensors show three volleys of streaking red energy leap out toward the ponderous
freighters. The ugly dread of the sight is abruptly lifted as the concussion missiles come within
range of Blue squadron's sensor jamming wizardry. Like a school of rebellious minnows, the missiles
lose all guidance, spiralling off in all directions, detonating at random in the harmless void of
space. Audible cheering can be heard over the comms.
<<Arright, Blue!>> Ektor hollers, as his fighter is rocked by another hit to the shields. "Hanna,
you napping back there? Light these dreks up, yeah?" He's answered with a rude retort that earns a
tight grin, baring teeth as Green 2 continues fighting through the cloud of TIEs.
<<Awesome Blue!>> Dosk radios as he sees the missiles go haywire. The 4 limbed alien smiling a bit
as Dar cheers from the gunners seat before the ship jerks heavily as a TIE lands an attack run from
the Starboard side, Dar's cheering subsides as he lays on the ions, attempting to track their
attacker, though he cant seem to obtain a good enough lead as it twists and turns out of the blue
bolts of energy.
Karas hears the cheers but isn't allowing himself to be sidetracked, <<Thanks, good job Blue 2
thanks for the assist, now everyone get back in the game, we still have fighters to destroy and
freighters to get out of here.>> he calls into his comm. Karas quickly rolls left as he is does
another of the TIEs fire in on him hitting his A-Wing Hard rocking the fighter badly. Grunting as
sparks and electricity crackles along his fighter, but he is still able to keep it going. Blue 2 is
able to keep on their target and destroy the fighter as the same time keep the jamming going.
Rey stares out of her cockpit canopy toward the guideance-jammed missiles and the jubilation from
her team mates, she's impressed by otherwise keeps commentary to herself for now. With another left-
ward twist of the flight stick, Rey's turning to the port and then pulling back and cutting throttle
on her T-65c fightercraft, drawing herself around in a tight drop/turn until she's back behind the
damaged TIE. She twirls the X-wing up around the gunner's fire and then squeezes the trigger on her
guns, lighting the TIE Fighter's aft up and then exploding the ship all together!
After sweeping up over the burning debris Rey calls out over the comms <<That got him!>> She says in
her youthfully excited voice.
The second Calamari freighter broadcasts, <<This is the Nuhala, our course is clear, initiating
hyperspace jump. Nuhala, out.>> The bulbous spacecraft is gone, moments later. Two are safe, two
remain.
The Gamma flight of TIE/sf craft concebtrate turret fire on Rey's X-wing, but so far to little
effect, while their forward cannons are directed against the A-wings. Someone appears to have
deduced the source of their frustrations, and Blue 1 is targeted heavily.
Ektor's last shreds of shield are blown through, landing a significant hit to the armored plating of
Green 2's fuselage. "Tenner, bypass the forward conduit and send more power to the inertial
dampeners, yeah?" <<Green Two, I'm hit but it ain't bad.>> From the gunner's chair Hanna Kafzhoth
accuses between blasts of the ion turret, "You're a lousy kriffing liar, Ektor."
Dosk moves to try and gain a position on one of the other bombers, checking the radar for green two
as his ship is slammed again by a viscous volley from a diving TIE. The Y wings shields instantly
pop and many of the green bolts tear into the fuselage. Causing sparks and smoke to billow into the
cockpit. <<Green 2 this is Green 3, sustained heavy damage, shields down. I'm gonna have to have to
hightail it, cant take another volley>> He radios while performing a split S to start heading out of
the fray.
With his A-Wing heavily damaged, Karas still is able to keep Blue 1 flying and fighting, with the
second freighter away, they had to hold on. <<All squadrons, knuckle up, we have to hold until the
last two remaining freighters have jumped.>> And with that, Karas sends is A-Wing into a spiral as
he finds Delta Triad, coming in from above the TIE, Karas depresses the trigger sending a cluster of
shots in the same spot of the TIE, scoring a direct hit. Blue 2 on the other hand swings in on Blue
1's right flank and fires in on DT's wingman, but misses, both both pilots are still continuing to
jam the bombers while keeping close to the bombers.
Rey can hear the comm calls from the damanged Y-wing pilot and she certainly is hoping that he can
make it to safety or is somehow able to get back into good shape (a great astromech hopefully!).
Silver Leader comes around on the remaining Mon Calamari freighters and she angles the nose of her
craft toward the TIEs on their bombing run, two left? Their turret fire is easily evaded now as her
X-wing zips past them and starts to strafe one of the bombers, landing several hard hits against the
vessels hull!
Rey's eyes track the ship as it zips past on her starboard side. "Run, you cowards... just like your
Supreme Leader." Clearly she's hoping to get the fighters to back off!
The skirmish grows increasingly deadly as the desperation of the part of the outgunned Resistance is
met with a mortal fear of failing on the part of the First Order.
<< I hear you, Green Three, get clear; I got these boot lickers right where I want em,>> Ektor
claims. A sardonic "Do they know that?" comes from his co-pilot, followed by a sarcastic honk from
Tenner. "Okay, you two ain't allowed to talk no more," the pilot complains. << I hear you, Blue
Leader,>> he answers. Finally getting an attack vector on his pursuer, a stream of laser cannons out
the fighter's nose tear apart the TIE/fo. "See? Told you I got this," he claims.
Karas and So-Pre are able to keep the jamming going from the bombers, but as Karas tries to side
slip and roll pushing his throttles to MAX, he over shoots again. The inertia dampness kick in
quickly but it's already too late as he is now in Delta Traiades sights and is being shot up.
Grunting as a bunch of warnings and alarms are going off right now. Still Karas is doing all he can
to mitigate the alarms, his retro rockets are gone and the A-wing is badly damaged, still it's
flying with is an attestement to Karas piloting, but even he doesn't know how long he can stay up.
Still he watches as So-Pre outflies their attacker and shoots destroying the TiE. Karas can't help
but smile, thats two for his wingman, still Karas tries to focus on what he is doing, <<Keep it up
people we are almost done.>> he calls.
Rey stays on the bombers while glancing back at her shield displays seeing that Artoo has them back
up to 80 percent. "Good job." She tells her droid companion before looking up to the TIEs. They're trying to
shake her shots while still performing their run, so she cuts throttle to avoid their turrets and
then unleashes more red-X=wing-laser-death toward tahe side of the TIE she's chasing yet still.
She sees her shots shred the hull of the fighter down to next to nothing before she pulls away to
avoid collision. "Almost got him!" Artoo responds with a complimentary whistle while the 19 year old
pilot sweeps her craft around and spins away from more turret fire from the two TIEs!
<<This is the Kaniku Minor,>> the third of the Calamari freighters reports. <<We are clear, and
beginning our hyperspace jump. May the Force be with us all,>> the captain bids, as the ship
disappears from all sensors. Three safe, only the battered heavy freighter remains.
"Switching to torpedoes, I got a line on this one," Ektor mutters with eyes narrowed on one of the Beta triad TIEs. "Gotcha," he grins, loosing a proton torpedo that consumes the enemy fighter in a satisfying fireball. His gunner crows triumphantly as her ion cannons pierce the hull of the TIE that had returned from the chase of Green 3. <<Two more down, my brothers and sisters,>> he reports.
Blue Squadron is still holding it together with Green Squadron, Bout Karas and So-Pre swarm the two
TIEs they've been dueling with. Both spiraling around one another in a dive of deadly accuracy as
they both fire on their TIES. Rapid fire laser bolts rip through each of their enemies shredding the
TIEs. Karas and So both pull back on thier sticks and their fighters level out. Both A-Wings are
damaged, but Blue 1 may have to be decommissioned after this if he can make it back, but still his
systems are still pushing and he knows he may not have a lot of time left but he continues his hunt.
<<All Wings lets finish this.>> he calls to the rest of the Resistance Fighter, <<Keep one another
covered, Silver Leader get that last bomber, we will try to keep the last freighter protected>> he
calls to Rey, but his comm is going in and out as he talks.
With Silver Leader's next pass she lines up her shots coming head-on-head with the TIE fighter
bombing the freighters. Two of them left, she aims for the one she's nearly completely shredded and
with its green lasers zipping past her starboard wings she lights up her cannons and sends three
more shots right into the glass of its forward viewport causing the ship to detonate from the inside
and send its two hexagonal wings twirling/whirling off in random directions!
With a heavy sigh of relief, Rey sweeps her X-wing through the debris and spins around to try to
find the last one. When the voice of Karas calls her out she's already on it. <<Copy that, Blue.
Hopefully they wisen up and make for a break, they can't win this now!>> It took her a little time
at first to shake the dust off, but this fight has gone well since then!
The turning of the tide is so sudden that it takes a moment to fully comprehend: in mere moments,
five TIEs explode amidst a barrage of Resistance firepower has more than evened the odds, it has
reversed them. Suddenly outnumbered, the First Order fighters lack formation or coherence, and Gamma
1- the last of the special force fighter/bombers breaks off its attack run.
Whatever beliefs, threats, or delusions are at work on the minds of the First Order fighter pilots,
the remaining pair of TIE/fo refuse to flee, and Green 2 takes another heavy blow, shattering the
restored shields, and sending up a spray of sparks from the control panel. Cadet Kafzhoth screams,
Tenner warbles in alarm, and Ektor curses. <<Not dead yet, you serial-number son of a file clerk!>>
With the explosions going on around them, and with two TIEs still streaking in on towards the
freighter, Karas banks hard left and quickly gets the drop on the lead TIE, Blue 2 isn't quick
enough and the TIE escapes Blue 2, but isn't able to get the drop on her. Karas hears the lock on
alarm and he quickly fires as he he follows the TIE into an evasive weave around the freighter.
Karas is pushing the A-Wing hard trying to end this before he lose his fighter.
With the last of the 3 bomber craft making a run for it, Rey's X-wing comes around to glide
alongside the freighter it had been attacking. She takes a moment to breath before she fires her
engines and looks to her scanners to find the other pilots.
<<Silver Leader to Blue group.>> She comms. <<Coming to assist if needed.>> Rey reaches forward to
shunt power from her lasers to her engines to increase her craft's speed, she's got her missiles
primed and ready to lock onto any TIEs she may need to fire at though!
<<This is Captain Murad of the Kaniku Major. I cannot know your names yet, as the enemy is listening
, but one day I hope to repay what you have done for my people, today. Hyperdrive engaged, Kaniku
Major, out.>> Though battered and half broken by the prolonged beating it had taken in the long
minutes before the Resistance arrived, the great freighter survives the battle, and vanishes into
hyperspace.
At that, with their last objective gone, the last remaining TIEs break off the fight, and engage
their own hyperdrives, leaving the battlefield to the antique aces of the Renegade.
