The Senate debates a Non-aggression pact with the Arkanis Confederacy brought before the body.
OOC Date: September 20, 2020
Location: Chandrila
Participants: Septima Carnine, Sesti Greystorm, and Tyrius Bodega
[Tyrius Bodega]
Some time ago the New Republic Senate had sent an expiditionary force to Geonosis and had a summit. Some of the Senators and or Representatives were there for that meeting. Elements of the former CIS had formed a new coalition in the Arkansis sector and they wished to expand. The offered somehing for he New Republic's promise of non-agression. Shielding technology that could resist a super laser like the looming threat of the one (or more) that escaped the battle of Exagol.
The first debate had lead to more question. THe vote went to committie for an extended period of time. Many revisions and argued semantics he legislation was finally back on the table and up for a final debate in the Senate Chamber.
Chancellor Mikar Darrohe spoke clearly from the stationary dias at the center of the room. "Esteemed Law Makers. The Senate now recognizes the Representative of Drik, Lord Tyrius Bodega."
Tyrius was dressed for the ocassion, finishing off a glass of Alderaanian wine just as his Senate Pod floats up to single him out. "The commitiee on Foreign relations and trade has finalized a Non-agression pact for the Confederacy of the Arkansis Sector. It was submitted forty eight hours ago for prereading. I motion to put it to debate."
Darrohe's gavil sounds, "Do we have a second?"
Several of the holgram Reps give a second to debate.
"The motion carries," Darrohe announces, "Debate on the act will now commense."
Tyrius bows, "I have come to the opinion that there can be nothing lost from simply saying yes to freindship. Perhaps more will come in time but reaching out our hands in the hopes that two Governments can work together can only benifit us. Others have made arguments about concern, but I remind them. We are at war, and the Galaxy is not all ours. We have our own enemies to worry about and the price may be to great if we worry too much." His senate pod starts to retreat. "I yeild the floor."
[Septima Carnine]
Septima had been at the Senate building early as she was watering plants. She was sure she got the strangest looks, but, she was changed into more proper attire by the time things were going. She was now seated in the pod for Chandrila with her head of security, Mekil and her guardian droid, Sprout. She's just as quiet as she usually is when she's listening to people speak. When Tyrius addresses the other Senators and Representatives of the New Republic. She looks to those around the room to see what their reactions are to his words.
Once the Representative of Drik has spoken and his pod retreated, there is a motion from Septima as she is ready to speak.
The pod floats forward and she stands, smoothing a hand over the fabric of her dress, "I am in agreement with Lord Bodega. We have much to gain security wise from this venture. And with this we could save many lives in the future. Lives that we have lost due to the war currently." she frowns to that. "If we are to gain more allies within the galaxy at this moment and build, this might be the best place to start." she states. With that, she gives a dip of her head in respect to those gathered and then retakes her seat. "Chandrila yields the floor." she gives a smile to that as she lets the pod slip back within the other seats and waits to see who else will be speaking.
[Tyrius Bodega]
Tyrius was in the middle of pouring another glass of wine while Septima spoke. A smile quirked on his lips. He offered her a wink and raised his glass to her.
Chancellor Darrohe waited a moment. "Are there any others who wish to offer a counter point?"
A few worlds out towards Geonosis and the Arkanis Sector speak of concern. Of their status with the New Republic. Most are just Representatives as not many primary memebers rest out that way. Both and Bimissari, and Naboo are the closest.
Tyrius takes a moment of the floor once more. "Your concerns are valid. There is noone here who should be more worried than the Naboo. From my understanding, even if your worlds were to fall under the Confederacy at some point you could still sent Representatives to the Republic. Perhaps some day after we build our trust and freindship, the Confederation will become members of the Republic as whole. We must look at the postive and the lives it could save." He looks around for affect. "I yeild the floor once again."
The Chancellor looks around the Senate floor, "Any more speakers?"
[Septima Carnine]
Septima gives a smile to Tyrius and a dip of her head, but then she is listening to those who are speaking concerns and there is a nod of agreement, there were others that should have concerns definitely. She doesn't have anything to add though and keeps rather quiet as the Chancellor yields the floor again. She was curious to see if anyone else was going to speak.
[Sesti Greystorm]
The Iridonian pod has not been empty, although the Representative herself is not visible.
When the Chancellor asks for any more speakers, one of the twi'lek aides in the pod leans forward to press a button and activate a holo of the Representative at her desk. She signals a wish to speak, and when given the floor, she stands from her desk so that the holo is now a full body representation. She wears a long formal tunic and trousers and her hands are lightly clasped in front of her. "In addressing the concerns of those closest to the Arkansis Sector, we hear and understand these concerns. I would remind all that a non-aggression pact goes both ways. In signing this pact, not only are we agreeing to not engage in any aggression, violent or otherwise, but so are the other signatories of this pact. This means that we are at liberty to take action should any of the worlds that have already signed on as part of the New Republic be attacked by the Confederacy. It may be an uneasy balance to some, but it is a balance none the less. As has been stated by other previous speakers, there is a possibility that they may join the Republic, however slight a chance that it is, it is a chance that will not be there if we do not accept the gift they graciously offer, when they so clearly do not need to do so. Rest assured that Iridonia is not a planet that will lack in response should the pact be broken, but we are not ones to look for a fight or to give slight unnecessarily. Iridonia supports the Non Aggression Pact." The pod retreats as she formally yields the floor, and the holo winks out.
[Tyrius Bodega]
Tyrius listens carefully as he sits in his Pod, nodding to the words spoken by Sesti from her Hologram. After there is anoher round of silence Tyrius rises, his pod moving forward again. "It seems now there is lest question now that we've worked out the kinks and misunderstandings. Let this be a test for the New Republic. Let it show our resolve and faith in the system of governments so many worlds have flocked to in responce to the First Order. Let us always remember there is another option other than war and that democracy shall prevail even if brought to the brink of destruction." One last wink and charming smile shot in Septima's direction. "I would also like to congradulate the Representative Greystorm on the birth of her son." He raises his drink before taking a sip. "Drik yeilds the floor.
The Chancellor waits for any more who wish to voice their concerns. "As there are no more to debate I will call for a vote to pass the Non Agression Pact, Resolution 1169 for a vote of the general assembly." His gavil sounds. Tryrius raises his glass mid drink, swallowing the wine. "Drik seconds the motion."
The Chancellor bangs the gavil again, "The vote is seconded. Sergeant at Arms, secure the doors. Minutes mark the time. Let us begin." The Bothan will call out the name of planets in alphabetical order for a yea or nay.
[Septima Carnine]
Septima gives a nod as others talk, she's said her bit and she's honestly not one to drag things out if there's a straight forward yes or no answer from her. She settles back and speaks quietly with her head of security as they wait to see what other planets and things has to say. She was curious to see how this would go as it had been a while since they'd first encountered the Geonosians and their offer.
[Sesti Greystorm]
As the roll call reaches the 'I's, Sesti's hologram flashes back on long enough to cast her vote. She turns towards Drik's pod, and nods her head in appreciation to him, but does not interrupt the process to verbally thank him. After her vote is cast, the Iridonian pod goes dark as her aides wait for the doors to be unlocked so they can file out with the rest.
