Log:Maz Bums a Ride
Maz longs to head home
OOC Date: May 22nd, 2016
Location: Various Places
Participants: Qadira Suuryet, Ax, Maz Kanata, Waywards
Another day, and Kadi comes up the lift from her workshop. The engineer is dressed in coveralls, with some grease to be seen on them. Seems she's been in the guts of some ship or other, but she has a bit smile on her face, not to mention a smudge of grease across one cheek. It's probably a good thing her hair is cut short these days.
Maz Kanata has a backpack of goodies as she makes he way into the hangar. She whistles and she struts with her short little legs. Sometimes people can get a glimpse of what Maz was as a youngster. This is one of those times. "Oi!" She calls, she hears clanking, but she is not sure who is around just yet.
Kadi pauses as she hears an 'Oi!' and she looks over in that direction. "Maz, welcome back. How are you doing today?" She heads over toward the small Maz, a slight tilt to her head, with some curiosity. "Did you find what you were looking for?" That said, she reaches a hand to rub at the back of her neck, and then she looks at her hand, with a bit of chagrin. "Oh, banthapoodoo, I forgot that silly capacitor leaked, and there's grease - guess it'll be an extra long cleanup today for me."
Maz Kanata shrugs. "No animals for pest control, but tabac and dried meat and some personal things for myself. Nice to get out and get it myself honestly." She swaggers up to Kadi and looks up. Smiles wide. "You are always busy. You should have Ax take you on a serious vacation."
Kadi blinks, and then she grins at that wide smile. It's infectious. "I should? Well, I suppose I could. Did you have some place in mind?" There's amusement dancing in her blue eyes as she rests her hands on her hips so she doesn't put them anywhere else. The coverall is already in need of a wash, might as well keep it the only thing.
Maz Kanata gains a wide grin. "Well you have the whole galaxy. SO many to chose from. I know you do favor my place though. I did only chose the best." She lugs her haul of stuff and smiles again. "So.. I think it's time for me to head back. I forget how terrible the air is here. Seems worse every ttime I am here."
Kadi makes a face. "It's the biggest thing that bothers me, mostly," she admits. "And yes, your place is absolutely wonderful." She doesn't even try to hide that she loves that crazy clean planet. "I wonder if i could build air purifiers and if they would at least help here in our hangar." moment - waiting on a couple folks to start a tp.
Maz Kanata ponders at that. "You might have to spend more time on my planet for reesearch." She winks at her. "Not that anyone would complain. And I do like the company."
Kadi chuckles and nods her head. "You are right, we might. Do you think I could convince Ax - well, actually I might be able to do so. He's also taking me to different places. I can highly recommend not going to Tanaab as a vacation spot."
Maz Kanata chuckles, "Tanaab, that takes me back." She sighs a bit. "There is not much left for this old body to do that hasn't already sadly. A boring exisistance for me."
Kadi considers that for a moment. "Reason to not live so long?" she suggests softly. "I don't think I will, somehow." Okay, she's pretty sure she hasn't got that sort of lifespan, not in any way, shape or form. Without a whole lot of bad juju. "It's all farms and nothing else," she adds, about Tanaab. "Boorrrriiing. Was it like that when you were there?"
Maz Kanata chuckles. "It's people that make it interesting." Maz tells Kadi out under some sort of flying mijig and dohicky. She smiles cheekily and waggles her finger. "See? That would be telling." She winks. "I have had some interesting runs in my days, but I think that business is far behind me. I am mostly retired."
The turbolift from the apartments above opens and Ax steps off, Adder perched upon his shoulder as he does so. He's whistling a little tune as the Tailring immediately takes flight, doing a circle around the massive hangar before spotting Kadi and letting out a screech before sailing down to perch upon her shoulder. Ax chuckles and approaches, still whistling. "Hey beautiful," he says as he approaches, leaning in to give Kadi a little kiss on the cheek. His eyes then shift to Maz. "Ahh, to what do we owe the pleasure, Maz? Always good to see you, of course. Can I get you a drink or something?" ~ Kadi grins at Maz. "The people - well, there were some, admittedly. We didn't stay too long to talk to them, though." She's about to say more when Ax's arrival is signaled by the tailring screech, bringing a big smile to Kadi's face. She pets Adder, and turns to Ax as he arrives. "I think maybe Maz was hoping you would give her a ride home soon. And maybe we could go stay a few days?"
Maz Kanata watches the tailring swoop around and chastises Ax. "Adder is getting fat Ax, you spoil him." She smieks and offers a hand in a greeting. "I think it's time to get my old bones home." She hefts the backpack she has with all her swag on this trip. "Drink would be lovely!" She chimes with a grin. She smiles knowingly at Kadi. "She wants to do some research on my old rock." ~ Ax nods to Kadi, smiling. "I'm fine with that. Everything should be good here for a few days," he says with a wink. He then looks to Maz and chuckles. "He is, and it's all Qadira who spoils him, I assure you," he lies. "As long as we aren't imposing, then I'll gladly stay for a few days. The fresh air would do me some good, and the open skies would do Adder some good as well. Why don't we take one of the more comfortable ships though. You can have a drink aboard." Of course, Ax was rarely one to waste time. He motions towards the Lost Soul, the largest of the Waywards' assets, yet one set up to be flown with as few as two people, which Ax manages with the assistance of a droid most times. ~
Kadi grins. "I gotta clean up - I can do that on the ship, right? And let me grab my adventure bag and we'll be good to go." She doesn't even argue with Ax about spoiling Adder, though she knows better. Hey, the tailring is on her shoulder at the moment after all. Kind of says something. "I'll be right back!" she says, darting off for the lift.
~ Once everyone is aboard and seated comfortably on the bridge, Ax powers the ship up. A servant droid has brought Maz a drink, a nice Chandrilan Brandy. It doesn't take long before the large ship, fast despite it's size, is leaving the Smuggler Moon and entering space. "So, what do you want to study, Kadi?" ~
"Air," kadi says with a grin. "I was thinking maybe I could figure out some sort of filter system for Nar Shaddaa, or at least our hangar to make the air better there." She is relaxed, with an Adder still hanging out with her, at the moment. She glances over at Maz briefly. Kadi's changed into clean clothes that are casual, but still look somewhat like she knows she's female instead of nondescript engineering coveralls.
Chandrilan Brandy! Now you are talking! Maz really enjoys that stuff, better than some of the swill popular on Nar Shaddaa. SHe sits and pumps her legs like a little kid. She smirks at Kadi while he asks about the research. She sips her drink. "This is quite a ship you have Ax. I am impressed with all the ships you have." She rubs the back of her neck, carrying that heavy napsack had it's draw backs.
The navi-computer begins to beep repeatedly until Ax reaches out and pushes forward the hyperdrive levers. The ship suddenly lurches as a result as outside there comes a blinding bright flash followed by the reverse flow of starlines becoming stars... and the ship decelerates quickly as it returns to normal-space.
"I work hard, play hard, and I try my best to make good investments," Ax says. "A lot of what we have are old military surplus vessels, but Kadi is a genius engineer and can make even these old warships purr like a snowcat. Then, it's a matter of a few credits, a little elbow grease, and you can make even the most utilitarian vessel comfortable." Ax steers the ship out of the traffic of Nar Shaddaa and to the hyperspace lanes after plugging in a course for the nav-comp. "I like knowing that we have a little protection for our people, and this bird is about as good as you can get without requiring a crew of thousands. Mostly though, I enjoy her speed and comfort." ~ Ax reaches out and taps a button to set a programmed intercept course for Takodana.
The ship rockets towards the planet and sinks lower and lower into its maw until it begins to penetrate the atmosphere. With a few flickers of light outside the viewport the ship bursts through the atmosphere and enters the planet's sky.
Ax reaches out and shoves the ship's throttle forward and with a sudden rumble through the bulkheads the Lost Soul's engines flare to life propelling it ahead.
Takodana is a world of thisk forests and large blue lakes. Its a peaceful world with very few settlements as it has never fallen into the pocket of a major corporation looking to strip of it is resources or its natural beauty. Takodoana was once the site of a major Sith versus Jedi war, a little over a thousand years ago and there are still signs of that battle within some of the forests, though most of it has been overgrown and covered over by all those years of a planety's natural growth. Maz Kanata's Castle can be visible from the sky as one flies their ship low in over Wayland island. It rests atop a large grassy hill with its stonet owers reaching high into the sky. All around the castle are landing fields cut into the trees of the forest creating circular pads in the grass for ship's to land, with dirt pathways leading toward the Castle or the lakeshore it rests beside.
Kadi grins, pleased with the compliments to her skills. Go figure. "It's fun," she says, shrugging a bit. Adder rides the movement of her shoulders easily, not even fussing about it. "And if you do it enough, you get good at it. Especially when your Mom is an engineer." She looks over to Maz and then says, "You might get to meet my parents, well, you probably will. They're - pretty cool I think. Though a bit overprotective. I think Dad gave Ax a hard time when we got engaged."
Maz Kanata eyes Ax. "Seems like you know more about ships than women." She teases him setting her glass down. She yawns and stretches loging for her own hole in the wall. "She is a rare talent." She looks over to Kadi and smiles in approval. She winks. "Don't all fathers?" She eyes Ax. "Harassed you good eh?"
Ax chuckles. "Yeah, her parents are good people though, I think they approve, but he did give me hell." He chuckles and soon the trip through hyperspace is over and Ax is flying the ship towards the planet. "And yeah, I grew up flying, so I do know more about them than likely anything else, but I wouldn't be as good a pilot if it weren't for a good engineer keeping the birds in perfect order." Soon, he's bringing the ship into orbit and a landing in one of the forest clearings, setting the large ship down very gently. "Welcome home, Maz." ~ Ax brings the ship closer to the landing area, then steers the craft into a free berthing spot. The sound from the repulsorlifts resonates through the ship as they flare with their power, making certain the ship does not wrecklessly slam into the ground.
Ax uses the navigation controls to steady the ship for landing. From outside the vessel spouts of exhaust fire out of the underside as the ship makes its final moves and gently sets down onto the ground, the rumbling of the engines and its many other systems begins to wind down...
Kadi approves of the repulsor lifts working, given all her hard work on the ship. "You notice Ax doesn't say he could keep them flying himself," she says. "But he can, and I know it. Certainly better than I can fly them." She wiats for the ship to land, before she gets to her feet. "Do you need help carrying anything, Maz?"
Maz Kanata snickers at Ax. She turns to Kadi and laughs. "Becareful Kadi he makes it sound like polyagmy and only keeps you aroudn to keep the birds happy." She winks, teasing them of course. Old bat had to keep herself amused some how. "Ohh plot twist he knows how to engineer." She jumps to her feet and lifts up her napsack. "I may be anicent but I have it." She lugs and can't wait to get her feet on home
Ax chuckles, powering down the ship. "I can do some basic repairs and maintenance, but that's about it. And, she's a lot better at it." With the ship landed and powered down, he stands up from the pilot's seat. "You sure I can't carry that for you, Maz?" he asks, almost sure of her answer. Adder, meanwhile was already staring out the viewports, eager to be let out of the ship. ~
Kadi did try to help, but Maz is an independent old bat. Kadi takes in a deep breath as she hits the ground, and Adder hits air. "Oh, this is so nice," she says, immediately. "Maz, you definitely got a great place. Well done."
Maz Kanata is a little winded after carrying it all the way through the ship. She takes a deep breath once she hits the fresh air and looks around. She obviously loves it here. She sets the knapsack down to catch her breath. "Thank you." She smiles, a little draw and tired looking now. ~ Ax chuckles. "Yeah, I love it here. I swear, I'm going to find a little island like this and just build a homestead," he says with a grin as he watches Adder soar through the air. Soon, he's chasing a small bird, only to nail it with an explosion of feathers in the sky. "That didn't take long," Ax says, watching it take place. He then looks to Maz. "I insist on carrying that for you to your castle, Maz. You can give us a little history of this place on the walk." ~ Kadi watches Maz with some concern, but she's not the medical type. So she doesn't fuss. She does smile at Ax as he makes that offer, a slight nod of agreement showing. "We know you can do it, Maz, but do let us help. It'll make us feel better." She glances to Adder in the sky, and then away again, shaking her head. Cute little predator. "I like it here too," she says, which is patently obvious. "if only we could have our base someplace like this - that would be perfect."
Maz Kanata snorts "Pirate carries their own loot." She protests. "But- I am not offended if you carry me." She teases him, but apparently likes him enough to get picked up. Hands on her knees as she catches her breath. "All your fault you have such a hug ship anyhow." She sees the puff of feathers getting shot out of the sky she smiles. "No bases, but if you want to retire here I wouldn't charge you too much." ~ Ax chuckles. "I wouldn't want to have my business here, this place is where I go to relax." He isn't going to pick Maz up, but he does reach to carry her pack. "Remember, you're mostly retired," he says with a wink. His eyes shoot skyward as he watches Adder spiral downward as he's munching on the bird as he plummets, unfurling his wings just before he hits the top of the canopy. "Though, I guess we could move operations off of Nar Shaddaa. It's just the best place for operations in the outer Rim. I guess we've got enough money now though that we could afford the slight loss of profit." ~ Kadi laughs at that. "Well, I don't know about that. I have some techie friends on Nar Shaddaa now," she admits. "So we could maybe have a small place some place else to relax in? It would do just fine, I think, honestly. Nar Shaddaa for business and some place else that is home." She grins at Maz, amused. "It might be a while before we're ready to retire, but don't think we'll forget that offer." Maz Kanata tugs on her pack protectively! Old habits die hard. "Mostly, I'm not dead yet. Ax." She eyes Ax, even though he could probably buy and replace her things ten times over. "My loot Echani.. dems the rules." She starts to walk slowly on her short legs. "I think your bride to be thinks you just need a vacation. And non about business either." She hefts her swag proudly. "WHat seems like a long time for you child, is a blink for me sometimes. I offer and it'll seem like tomorrow when you move in." She smiles with a nod.
Ax chuckles. "True. Rumor has it that you've had this place for nearly a millenia," he says. "So, if that's even partially true, our lives will come and go before you even realize it. Guess we'll just have to make sure we make the absolute most of it." He looks to Kadi. "Well, we don't even really need to build a place. We could just do some conversions to one of our ships, get rid of the cargo bay and open it up to a nice little home. Just land it wherever offers the best view." ~ Kadi blinkblinks and then she grins at Ax. "Totally doable," she agrees. "And then we could see all the planets." Hah. There's a challenge, Echani. "Well, all thet ones that we can actually land on, that is." She walks along the other two, her steps those of a city kid, even in the forest.
Maz Kanata looks back over her shoulder. "Very wise indeed you are learning, Ax." She smiles with warmth which is rare for her. "Kadi, keep an eye on 'em. Ax you better do right by her." She nods still heading back to the castle. "I wouldn't mind some mobile homes here now and again." She agrees. "However, these old bones are aching. I'll leave you two crazy kis to your flights of fancy. Maz has a pillow callin' her name." And with that she heads home.
