Liren Iskender: The Lease
OOC Date: April 21, 2020)
Participants: Vranailabhanaachtran , Liren Iskender
The young woman had been in and out of the starport for days, checking manifests, occasionally talking to officials. Glimpses of riding garb show from beneath the hooded cloak that she wears against the rainy Naboo spring weather. Datapad open in front of her she is reading down today's manifest when a local customs agent comes to the table she has seated herself at, a steaming cup of caf next to her.
"Ma'am, we just had a ship's captain come in that you might be able to talk to. An odd person, not your run of the mill captain, but the Galaxy is a wide place. Name of Vranailabhanaachtran. Would you like me to tell him to come talk to you?"
Looking up with a faint smile, she nods, "By all means. Thank you." Vran follows not long after the custom's agent with an expression of curiosity on his face. He was dressed in simple, if well made spacers garb that fits in in any variety of space ports with a few blades strapped to his sides. "I heard that you were looking for the captain of a trading vessel?" he says as he approaches and gives first a smile to the agent before looking back to Liren to give a broad smile of his own, "I'm Vran. Owner of the Dust Eater over there," a turn to point at it.
Liren nods indicating the chair opposite her. "Thank you for coming to talk to me. Can I offer you something to drink, Mr. Vran? I'm so glad you've shortened that. I'm Liren Iskender." She makes an open handed gesture to the chair again and pushes back her hood out of politeness revealing dark lustrous hair framing a pale oval face.
Vran smiles, "Asking someone to say my full name never time would be a bit... much, I think." he says and and moves to take a seat in the chair that she indicated. He takes a moment to look at her features as she pushes her hood back, not just admiring but putting them to memory. "Liren Iskender. Nice to meet you." he rests a hand on the top of the table and leans forward slightly, "What can I do for you?"
"Straight and to the point," a faint approving smile accompanies her nod. "I have to say I was wondering if your mother would call you by your full name when she was angry with you." She returns the frank examination, committing his face to memory as well as trying to judge his character.
"I have been looking for a ship to lease for my personal use. For trading and transport. I am not a smuggler, I can provide proof of my antecedents. I have enough money to pay for the lease but am not exorbitantly rich since this would be for personal use. Would you be able to make an offer or introduce me to someone that could?"
"I did not figure that you were looking for someone for a social visit, but for business." Vran says with a tip of his head towards her in regards to being straight and to the point, "My mother would call me by the full name often enough, but was practiced in it. Is not much longer to say than your own full name." He leans back into his chair and hmms a moment at her stated desire, "Any cargo on my ship is fully legal and goes through customs. Would not have it other ways... but I could be interested. What sort of trading are looking to do? And where?"
Liren raises one eyebrow at his mildly acid reply concerning his name and the reason she wished to talk to him. Obviously she was not the first to comment on it, nor was he one to pay court to the social niceties: a little tidbit to store away about him. "Galaxy wide but centered around certain worlds where I have personal business. Devaron, Chandrila, D'Qar, Naboo, potentially other Inner Rim worlds. As for cargo? Whatever will make a profit as long as it stays well within the legal limits and respects the environmental rights of the planets being traded with. Does that answer your question?" She lets none of this inner commentary show, remaining polite and pleasant.
"It does, yes." Vran says with a smile, "So you will be looking to be based out of the inner rim, more or less... mainly in those four worlds you mentioned? Trading can take you care and wide in search of profit, chasing margins and what not.. but your personal travel? I am happy to take my ship and you where ever you need going, have no worries there, but it is good to know what I may be getting myself in to. Some areas of space are.. safer than others. And some more profitable."
"I'm ready to offer you fifteen percent of my take for the use of the ship. We will have to talk about scheduling, coordinating runs, etc. But that is a healthy percentage of my runs. My idea is to get myself a large enough stake in a new ship of my own. Potential rival with you, Mr. Vran or, possibly we create a fleet for better profit." Liren does not return the smile so much as acknowledge it with a nod. She leans back in her chair trying to not appear too eager.
"Fifteen, I am afraid, would not quite even cover the cost of maintaining the ship for the average journey from port to port. All of that takes a toll on a vessel, not counting fuel." Vran replies and lets his fingers drum out on the table top, from pinky to pointer for a few times. "Make it Twenty and I think we could have a idea. I won't be getting rich off of it, but it will cover expenses and the occasional bottle of whiskey to drown away any remorse should this be a bad decision." His smile, is still there though. Tone light.
"Remorse, Mr. Vran?" Shaking her head, Liren sniffs dryly at the notion. "Fuel and servicing for my runs, plus a very hefty twenty percent above that for you? I think that is more than generous besides profitable for you."
Pursing her lips, she considers the trader for a moment before tapping two fingers on the table in the galaxy wide sign for a deal done. Her green eyes glitter with excitement that she is too polite to express.
"Neither of us will have 'buyer's regret', I assure you.
