The Signal from Katana fleet leads the Resistance to a Moon near Unknown Forces.
OOC Date: September 13, 2018
Location: Chiss Ascendency Border, Ice Planet Moon
Participants: David Ironside, Jonn Drayson, Kare Kun, Poe Dameron, Thrawn, Jessika Pava, and Devii
One of the guards, has fallen. The other having called for support is raising his weapong to fire at the Lightsaber wielding man. He squeezes the trigger of his weird weapon and the blue beam flies from it at John. The snow continues to fall around the Resistance soldiers and pilots. Its clear this is going to be a long mission. Over head the sound of thunder rolls across the area, a flash of lightning can be seen and it illuminates a large craft that had been hidden in the mountain range Its currently parked above the ground, hovering in place. It seems to be the assault craft the current defenders arrived in. Its of no known model of ship the Resistance know of.
Poe backtracks just enough to get solid footing then lifts the handcannon up and squeezes off a second shot. His aim placed the shot high on the shoulder, with enough concussive force behind the impact to bring him off balance. Poe follows through, ensuring his next shot, if needed, will not intercept one of his teammates in the process. However, before he can squeeze another shot off, he hears the sound of something over head and spots an assault craft. It'd have a tough time hitting them, he supposed, but he didn't want to stick around to find out. "Push to that tower and get inside!" His voice sounded over their personal communication devices.
VWOOOOM was the noise of the blue beam as it did little more than twitch, lazily intercepting the matching blue bolt (blue seemed to be the theme of the day, today) and sending it careening into the snow. Jonn had seen it coming, almost in slow motion. The Force had told him where he was going to be hit, and where his lightsaber needed to be to make sure that didn't happen. And, with minimal effort and maximum efficiency, he'd followed the instructions laid out for him and saved his own life. Form 3 at its finest.
"Stahnd daun," ordered Jonn Drayson, Jedi Juggernaut, as he walked slowly towards the men with enough firepower to make a stormtrooper run in fear. The shot from Poe impacting the hostile trooper only underscored his point. The fun thing about fighting a glacier is, it doesn't matter how many shots you take at it. Sooner or later, you'll get overwhelmed, and that was the very principle Jonn had instilled into his technique.
Problem is, now a gunship was involved. Sithspawn.
He picked up the pace. Glaciers don't run, but Jonn did. "We gahdah moofe!" he ordered, underscoring the pilot's point. "Get to da doahs!"
Still laying out in the snow, weapon set up as she has taken a sniper's position, Kare shifts targets and fires. Just a split second after Poe did. Her target was the same and as the fellow staggers under his fire her shot goes wide. "Damnit," she grumbles as she moves her bi-pod weapon slightly to fire again through the swirling snow.
David is still back-first against his cover crate, peeking out briefly every so often before turning fully out of cover, rushing forward before diving into a combat roll to end up just by Jonn's side. He raises his blaster, takes aim and shoots the main hostile attacker right in the face. David blinks as the unknown drops like a sack of space-potatoes and finds his cover behind Jonn's lightsaber. "I meant for that to happen, by the way." he murmurs to nobody in particular but at the same time to everyone within earshot.
Devii had taken up the rear if only to go around a corner and take that tinkle she really really needed to. That one night with a Pantoran prostitute really wasn't settling well on the old box. "Krif that burns, I gota go see the doc when I get back." Then there was the shooting up ahead and she was rushing to pull up her jimmies and clasp her armor back into place, barely making it to the group as the charge towards the tower came. Her pistol drawn then she moves quickly to help the group push forward. "Let's go!" SHe lays down a bit of covering fire with her blaster.
The other defenders with in the relay station all seem to quiet, falling back perhaps as they ready themselves for an attack as the defenders instead of the attackers. The soldiers within seem to know their jobs. The door to the Relay station slide open after much whining and groaning against the ice, the interior lights seeming to have been turned off or didnt work to begin with.
Poe moves forward and takes a spot to the far left of the door (According to the party's orientation) and plants his back to it. Still holding his blaster with one hand, he aims it slightly down out of safety and trained habit. He uses his other hand to motion Drayson, Devii, David, and Kare forward and out of the open. They were going inside, or at least needed to, but Poe was determined to ensure everyone made it in before he did. He pointed at Drayson. "You take point big guy. We'll cover you."
Kare leaps up from her frozen spot, snow clinging to her front and back as she shoulders the large sniper rifle and draws her pistol as she takes off to join the others. "Where you want me, Boss?" She asks once she gets near Poe. All the while looking more like a ball of snow than a fighter pilot.
Take point? As the party tank, Jonn Drayson was best suited for the role. Plus he was the least likely to die. He didn't have time to bleed. "Watch foah mahzle flash," he instructed, shaking out a bit of tension in his shoulders, "and shoot back when you see dem." And so, lightsaber at the ready, he strode through the door to meet his fate.
Never, in his entire life, had he heard alarm bells ringing so loud. It took him a moment to realize that it was the Force, telling him that walking into an overwatch trap was probably the dumbest thing. Thankfully, like most soldiers defending their homeland from invading aliens, their aim SUCKED. Most of the blue shots ran wide and Jonn only needed to move twice. First, he twitched just a little too late to avoid a solid impact that burned through the robes, armor, uniform, and scorched him under the fiber jumpsuit. The second time was on the mark, and the gentle twitch sent a bolt careening into the ceiling.
And it nearly ripped Jonn's saber from his hand. What the hell were these weapons?
"ICE TO SEE YOU!" he boomed out to the room, ignoring the burning sensation in his shoulder where the blue shot had landed. He was gonna need new robes. "YOU HAF LIT YOAHSELVES UP, WE KNOW WHEAH YOU AH. LAY DAUN YOAH WEAPONS!" he ordered the men shooting back. He was certainly a scary sight, even though his megamuscles were hidden under four layers of clothing. "YOU FIGHT DER CHED-HAI!"
David looks up from his crouching position nearby Jonn. "You alright, big guy?" he asks, peering around Jonn to see the one fleeing hostile. The pilot turned gunslinger takes aim, steadying his blaster hand on his other arm and shoots the guy in the back of a knee. He manages to take a few steps before falling flat on his face. "Downed one!" David calls out. The downed man drags himself ahead by the arms though, slow as he is on the icy durasteel. "We should see if we can't bring him back in with us." he suggests to those nearby who are good at not being in a cockpit regularly.
The cold didn't bother Devii, it never did. Mirial was a cold and dry world filled with icey desert like a planet that was one half of Ryloth. Best to say, she was used to it. Her eyebrows had frosted over and she had prepared clothing wise, at least what she could reasonably wear under the standard issued Res Trooper Gear. She slams up against the side of the tower and then takes Aim as the others pile in past Poe. She finds a target. Three rapid shots plow out, one wide, the other to the opposite side. Then she Zero's in and nails one right smack in the head. "You mean take these suckers with us? Be my guest, It's not on my list of things to do." She ducks into the entry way just before Poe would.
The shots fly out as the overwatch had more or less failed. The troopers are communicating it seems as two move from one side a bit further back, then another pair, then one moves, they are professionals to say the least. Now two remain close and five are spread out further back, the one on his stomach seems to be using only his arms to move, likely having been shot in the spine as he was running away. The two up front fire, then the five in the back. And behind the line in the back is a sealed door with scorch marks upon it.
When Kare makes it to Poe, he had turned inward to fire inside. His shot missed, and it left his ears ringing. When she asked about her placement, he barely heard it but he turned to face her. "What?!" He asked, but then it dawned on him what she might want. "Find cover inside and do what you can. Not much use for a long rifle in close quarters." When everyone eventually ducked inside, Poe was the last through the threshold, and that earned a glancing blow across his forearm. He nearly lost his blaster because of it. Poe moved closer to the group while tucking the DE-10 back into place and hoisting the larger blaster rifle. He'd have more stability with that weapon, hopefully. "Return fire, let's get through this, team!" He shook his hand and arm out before wrapping the sling about it and taking an alert stance to see where he could shoot next.
"Dis is nahd der wyerst wound I haf had!" Jonn exclaimed to David, seemingly retaining some sort of good cheer despite his shoulder being on fire. He was going to need a lot of ointment for that burn, but it was still nothing compared to being nearly taken apart by a Sith Lord.
Speaking of being taken apart, the blue blasts kept on coming. Each impact was solid, threatening to tear the saber out of Jonn's hands. But he held. He braced himself. Though he wasn't able to send the bolts in the direction he wanted to, he was able to keep himself untouched. So, he started walking forward, ignoring the fatigue building up in his hands and shoulders.
"YOU CANNOT STOP MEH!" he boomed out, his pace glacierlike, and yet his movement unstoppable. He would take a while to reach them, but he would not fall in doing so. Your puny shots fail in the might of a Jedi Juggernaut! "YOU ARE NAHD SEHNDEHNG MEH TO DER COOHLER!" And there was even bad humour to go with it! Was there truly anything this man couldn't do?
A mock salute is tossed to Poe as Kare moves on. She first fires at the poor fellow running who goes down in a thud. Shifting targets Kare fires again and hits center mass and he crumples. Shifting once again she tags the third before Kare finds a good place to take cover for the return fire that is sure to come.
Keeping behind the big Jedi, David keeps his focus on his direct partner, so to speak. "Just let me know when you're done being shot, okay? I can help." He peeks out, shooting from Jonn's left. He misses, but ducks behind Jonn only to pop out on his other side. A shot goes wide. David curses, then apologizes to the gentle giant. "You don't have a swear jar, do you?" he asks, leaning over and shooting a round into the injured runner's softest tissue. The pain is too much, and that one too goes down. "I didn't mean to do -that-." David admits, though he shoots a thumbs up at Kare.
"You're already in the cooler!" Devii says to Jonn just before one of those blue bolts hits her square in the shoulder and sends her flying back against the wall. She slups down and groans. It's a mess but nothing she can't recover from... for now. "Now I'm really going to have to see Medical." With a roar she pushes herself back up and over to some cover. She takes a few breaths and then pops up. Right in her sights is one, "This is what you get bantha licking mother krifer." That first shot might have exploded a head. Revenge was sweet and a dish best served on a cold ice planet. She aims towards his partner, taking another shot. Center mass but nothing special. The third one goes wide as the pain from her wound starts to creep in and cramp up her arm. She growls.
Two left, their friends either down from injury or dead. The last two soldiers turn and back up, and start putting something on the door, a timer of sorts is set. One soldier is firing, covering the other as he works. Seems they are trying to hide whatever is inside now.
The EL-16HFE was more Poe's style. He felt like he had a more stable shooting platform. When he picked up on the final two soldiers and saw that one was working on something. Poe shouldered his weapon, took aim, and fired. The blue bolt struck his intended target, sinking a bolt into their back and flattening them against the wall. Poe couldn't tell immediately if they were dead or still alive, but he knew that had to have hurt them enough to stop their project. "Close it in, finish these guys off. Make sure our tail end isn't exposed either." They also needed to find the light switch.
Having lost the attention of the shooter, Jonn moved, quickly. The slow walking wall turned into a speedster, crossing the distance between himself and the shooter and swinging the blue blade. There was a loud WHOOOM, the air filled with blue... and the remaining trooper still stood. The lightsaber blade had terminated its swing about two inches from the man's nose.
"You haf lost," said Jonn, his voice calm, quiet, and even. "Nohbahdy else needs to die today."
Of course that wasn't to be, but at this point, Jonn didn't quite know that.
Kare grins as she sees Poe tag the fellow trying to do something explosivly. She leans out and fires, another dead shot on the baddie. Quickly shifting to the one that Poe had hit badly she finishes him off. "Down and down," she calls out to the others.
David runs ahead when the shooting stops, halting momentarily by the dude he downed. "Stop moving." he tells him as he kicks his blaster away. "It'll conserve your energy and you might get out of this." He notices a beepy sound, peering at a timer. "Hey, team? Is anyone good at uhh.. defusing.. timers? I'm not sure it got hooked up to a bomb but y'know. There it is."
Devii looks to David, holding her hand to her wound. She looks around, just to make sure no more are coming. "I have some training. Can give it a try... But if there are others who can do it better, now is the time to speak up." She moves towards the ticking Device and looks it over, attempting to get a read on the machanism.
"I'll check it out, Eltee, just keep watch. You're a better shot than me." Poe adjusted his weapon by utilizing the sling and orienting the rifle to rest against his back. Then he arrived next to David and patted his shoulder. "Good work, buddy." He grabbed the downed man aside by his collar so that he would remain out of the way, then knelt down and started working on the computer. After a few minutes, Poe just shot the screen and pulled the paneling out, crossing several wires and unlocked something in the process. If there had been some sort of detonation device, Poe had disarmed it. "Okay, we're in. Stack on the door.."
An exaggerated wipe of sweat from her brow as Poe disarms the bomb, Kare moves to 'stack' as ordered "Set" Kare says as she grips her pistol.
As the team stacks up on the door, the door slowly slides open to reveal a room of skeletons. All wearing ratty Old Republic uniforms. There is a message coming in now. "This is Protocol Droid Alpha-Six-Eight. Assistance required. Coordinates to follow. 299.34.6187. Katana Fleet in distress. The human crew of the fleet was affected by a Hive Virus and Hyperspace jump was initiated. Location.. Unknown Regions Nebula three, 299.34.6187. Does anyone copy?"
Jonn's expression was twisted in concentration while the others were focused on the device. Since they had it well in hand, it allowed him to focus on the wound in his shoulder. The pain flared, and he winced, but then it eased ever so slightly. Success, if only a slight amount.
First in best dressed, as they say! Lightsaber at the ready, Jonn Drayson was in the room first and found... nothing. Nothing but corpses and the associated stench. Yick. "Dis smells worse den yoah cooking," he huffed out, covering his nose and directing his words towards David Ironside. Because he could. He saw nothing waiting in ambush. He felt nothing crawling in his mind, telling him he was in trouble. So, he declared "Clear."
David chuckles, squinting at the skeletal remains in uniform. "No offense taken, I'm spoiled as it is." He reaches out with his blaster and taps one of the skulls in the back of the head. It promptly detaches and falls to the ground. "Well. You think these are what, fifty, sixty years old?" He peers at the terminal with the incoming message and heads over to answer. He presses a button, and replies. "This is Lieutenant David Ironside of the.." he turns back towards Poe briefly, giving him a nod that anyone would understand. "New Republic. We copy, Alpha-Six-Eight."
Devii enters the room when it's her turn after stacking on the door as ordered by the Major. "Who's cooking?" Devii asks Jonn, looking towards the terminal where the protocal droid's voice is coming from. "Is that live?" She asks, though that might be answered as David goes to communicate. The mic is quiet for the moment, "This is Alpha-Six-Eight, I have no record of a New Republic, But it has been some time." THe droid replies. "Your assistance is requested at the cordinates provided. "Status of all two-hundred Dreadnoughts can not be confirmed. Organic assistance required."
Poe was relieved to hear the all clear, and that would have shown on his face if he weren't wearing a breathing apparatus to keep his lungs from freezing. Stepping inside after the others, he listens intently to the transmissions, seemingly watching David. "Let's copy those coordinates down, look for any other intel in here, then fry this place. We don't want anyone coming up behind us getting our trail." Poe didn't wait for a confirmation, they all knew they couldn't linger for long down here. Pressing his hand to where his ear was, he called out to BB-8. <<Hey pal, go ahead and prep the ship. Yeah, buddy. We're all okay, but we need to be ready to leave.>> Poe lingered outside the old republic radio room, his gaze trained out toward the blizzard.
Jonn Drayson presses the button on his metalic lightsaber handle causing the shining blue energy beam to slide back down with an electric squeal.
"Two hundred what?" Kare asks from her position near the door to keep an eye out on their six. "Seriously?" Visions of 200 dreadnoughts dance through her head.
With an electric, protesting squeal, the shining blue energy beam slid back down into the metallic lightsaber handle of Jonn Drayson. His job was done, and he could feel his shoulder slowly recovering. Very slowly. But it was something. "Twooh hunderd... das a lodda spaceship," he murmured, almost in awe.
"Copy that, Alpha-Six-Eight." David replies to the robotic voice. "End transmission, do not contact this base again. Times have indeed changed, if you don't have the New Republic on record." He copies the transmission data to his datapad, stuffing in back inside his parka immediately after he does so. "So that's that. Are we taking the live one?"
Devii shakes her head, a look of bewilderment on her face, "Not just two hundred ships, Two hundred Dreadnaughts. Warships, Rendalii I bet. Katana fleet sounds familiar but I'm drawing a blank. Sounds like an old fairy tale." She takes out her Datapad and writes down the coordinates and the frequency the Droid had been transmitting on if she can find that. She looks to David, "I don't know... just get me a bacta dip before we decide."
