The Skywalkers head to Jakku to snatch up some resources off a buried Star Destroyer

Location: Jakku
Participants: Leia Organa, Rey, Syrus

JAKKU!
Fresh off of being released from captivity, Leia leads a group of Skywalkers to Jakku where Rey uses her knowledge of the planet to lead them to easily acquired resources to build up stores on Arisnar.

When Rey had heard that they were in need of more scrap and parts, that the need for electronics and circuitry was going to be something that the group would need stockpiled in their newly built storage facilities on Arisnar, she'd had it strike her that there'd be no better place... with the tools they had now... than going to Jakku for that very reason.

Though she was reluctant to have come here, and once she saw the world out of the cockpit viewport of the ship she'd first left it inside of... she felt queasy, visibly enough that the others with her would undoubtedly notice.

But she'd tried to push past that. She'd told them where to set the Falcon down near an area that she knew other Scavengers wouldn't go because of the difficulty in acquiring parts in that particular place and then she'd stepped out of the Falcon once it was down.

Back outside in the harsh sunlight, Rey reached up to lowers her goggles down over her eyes, the goggles she'd had when she'd left this place originally. "I hate it here." She says, to anyone who may be nearby.

"It's...very warm," Syrus says, coming to a stop next to the young woman. He rests a hand on the strap of his messenger bag and casts a glance around at the desolate landscape. "At least you can't see the core of it from space. It has that over Jedha," he offers as a kind-hearted jab to the young woman.

"Where should we look first?" he asks, looking over to her with brows raised. He'll trust the expert on this one.

Leia is there Rey as the planet comes into view, a few steps behind her after they land, and at right beside her when the loading ramp lowers onto the sand of a dune. She has a pair of goggles as well that she pulls down over her eyes with her hair tied back out of her face and the hood of her robes pulled up to protect her from the sun.

Leia is not a tanned woman!

"Chewie, make sure nobody messes with the ship." She says to the Wookie, who knowing that this is where the ship had been for so long, is already carrying his bowcaster.

This is not the first time the General had been to Jakku. Point of fact, she led the battle that ultimately put most of the wreckage here.

Rey glances over to Syrus and she cannot help but show him a grin at the words he says comparing their two homeworlds. She'd visited Jedha with him and they were somewhat similar, though Jedha had much more rock to Jakku's sand. "I'll grant you that." She replies to him before hearing his other question.

Then, Rey's hand comes up and she touches him gently on the shoulder and points behind him so he'll turn around. And... behind him is an 8 kilometer long Super Star Destroyer resting across the sands, ripped in half down its center with a shanty-town built inside of that open half. They were closest to the nose of the wreckage which had scattered far and long out over the desert. "There." She indicates, pointing to part of the Super Destroyer that was a short walk away.

Rey glances back to Leia and Chewie then. "Watch out for the local wildlife, Chewie... the Steelpeckers will try to land on the Falcon and attack its hull. Feel free to blast them, they're wretched little things."

Rey looked to Leia then, smiled at her and then nodded. "Alright, lets go salvage... I think this will be easier than it used to be." Especially with her telekinetic abilities honed now. The young one starts the jurney down the sand dune toward the wreckage.

Syrus Volo begins following Rey down the sands, chuckling softly at her response. "I'm sure it must feel good to be able to stretch your legs again, eh, General?" he asks back to Leia, looking over his shoulder as they travel. Being a wanderer by nature, he doesn't even want to think about being locked inside of a Star Destroyer for weeks on end. Though, who would, really?

Leia follows along with the pair, pulling her cloak around her against infrequent sand blown as they make their way towards the corpse of the star destroyer. "I'd have preferred a little recreational time, but it wasn't very high on their priorities." She jokes, searching across the exterior hull.

"It's easy to forget how massive they are until you see one up close." She had seen a Star Destroyer during construction at Kuat and still it hadn't really done them justice. "Where do we even begin trying to find our way inside?"

Rey doesn't seem to see anything wrong with the avian name after Syrus asks her of it, she just looks over at him and nods her head while flopping her feet along in the sand here like she had for so many years prior to leaving. "They feed off of metals, and people." She says quietly to him before looking over to Leia.

"Oh, we don't need to get inside it." Rey's eyes then look up to the massive bulk of the main two haves of the Super Destroyer, those two parts were a good mile away or so. "Its become a hostile environment, to be inside the main body... People will rob you for your parts." She bites down on her bottom lip and shakes her head. "Best to avoid it."

Then she points ahead again to the much smaller piece of the Destroyer (which is still the size of a building compared to them) "We'll just cut our way into that... slice off what we need... I'll build a sled and we can carry it back to the Falcon." And that is said with a bit of a chipper tone to her youthful voice.

Suddenly Rey whips up her lightsaber hilt out of nowhere and hands it over to Syrus. "You should do the cutting, you should start to get comfortable with one of these... We're building one for you AND Leia now." She shows a smile to him again as the trio enters the shadow cast by the debris chunk they're approaching.

"It's a shame, really," Syrus remarks back to Leia with a smirk. As Rey answers his query he breathes a simple 'huh' before saying, "Fascinating. I know mynocks feed off of...what is it...radiation? Electricity? I've never heard of a creature that subsists off of metal. It's truly an intriguing place you're from, Rey."

As the lightsaber is waggled in his direction, Syrus reaches out with a gloved hand and takes it. His brows raise and he says, "Best the two of you stand back, I imagine." He looks it over for a moment before looking back to Rey, "How...sorry, how do I turn it on?"

Leia inclines her head at Rey, letting the younger woman lead them through the salvaging operation without much input from the older. This is certainly not her forte, having not really had a need for it prior to now.

At Syrus' question, Leia leans towards him and indicates the activation switch near his palm. "Keep this depressed." She explains and then takes a step back, just in case, "Dangerous end out. The weight doesn't change when the blade is extending... that is the first thing people find disconcerting."

Rey continued to talk about her homeworld a bit more. "I wish I could say that there were entertaining points of interests or landmarks for us to visit while we're here... but there really isn't." She looked up to the northwest on their left and exhaled softly. "My home was off in that direction, I left it unespectedly when this all began... and there are a few things there I wouldn't mind having, keepsakes and the such of my past. But, I'm not sure its worth the effort now."

'Let it die, kill it if you have to.' Thats what Kylo had said. In this case? Maybe he was right.

Rey softly clears her throat then and moves up toward the 'chunk' of destroyer that was looming in front of them and above. She reaches out to place her hand on the side of it. "This was a communications relay. The armor is too thick for most tools used by scavengers on Jakku and its resting on the side that severed off from the main hull of the ship... but the saber should cut through it... and there's no reason this can't be training as much as necessity."

With a smile at them both she stepped back then to let Syrus cut their way inside.

Syrus Volo looks a little embarassed, but dips his head to Leia, nonetheless, saying, "Thank you." He clears his throat and holds the lightsaber out stiffly, his hand clenching around the hilt and, by extension, the activation switch. The blue blade sparks to life with a scream.

Looking a mixture of nervous and incredibly intrigued, Syrus hesitantly holds the blade in front of himself, looking it over. "Magnificent. I've only ever seen broken hilts and crystals before at the Church. Never the finished product."

Realizing he's gotten caught up in the splendor of it all, the man clears his throat once more and moves toward the place where he's supposed to be doing the slicing. He grips the hilt with both hands and holds the tip of the blade to the durasteel, slowly but surely sliding it into place, until only the hilt is left to be seen. Sparks are flying and metal is melting as Syrus goes all Episode I Qui-Gon on this battlefield debris.

Leia hasn't spoken to any great length as to what conversation she may or may not have had with Kylo during her captivity. Even if it's dreadfully obvious that something has been plaguing her since she returned, she's kept it close to her vest save for the far away stare that she takes when not overtly paying attention to her expression.

The snap hiss of the saber draws her attention her attention with a little turn of her head towards the bright glow of the blue blade slowly sinking into the hull of the direlect star destroyer. She watches it slowly disappear and start to super heat the metal into a bright glowing orange. "Now slowly move it in a circular pattern."

Rey showed a quick smile at the man's reaction to the saber being ignited, it was similar to her first time igniting it as well... though, she hadn't had a lot of time to focus on that as Kylo was bearing down on her. "Good." Rey quietly says then and shifts her weight on her feet before motioning to the ship also.

She glances over to Leia when the mother of the monster spoke, a soft nod to Leia was given to. Rey knew something was on her mind, and when she looked at her she studied the older woman's face, but it must be hard to have a son who's gone the path that Ben has. So why pester her about it? Its not her place, she has no right to do so.

With her eyes back on Syrus while he cuts... She reaches her left hand out and her lips part, she draws on the power of the Force to steady the circle he's to cut. And when he has it sliced she has it held 'still'. Then the glowing circle is pulled outward, with pieces of the brightly heated metal falling down into the sand... she draws the circle out and several feet away before gently letting it drop down into the sand. The armor on the Star Destroyer was about as thick as the saber's blade was long.

Syrus Volo does as instructed and begins to move the lightsaber. It's slow-going, but you know the old saying 'space Rome wasn't lightsabered in a day' or something.

Making a nice molten metal circle, Syrus's hand releases the switch and lets the blade retreat back into the hilt and steps out of the path of the floating metal cylinder. He chuckles happily and looks down at the saber for a few moments before he offers it back to Rey, "A wonderful thing, indeed."

Leia raises a brow and watches the impromptu doorway float out and over their head towards the sand a few feet away. A small grin forms on her face as the dark interior opens up ahead of them. One hand slips into her robes to grab a floating shoulder torch which she ignites and releases to hover just over her right shoulder.

As she enters, she steps over still cooling blobs of molten durasteel glowing slightly darker orange in the sand. "Be careful inside.. no telling what kind of nonsense we'll run into inside." As Rey said, the wildlife is every bit as dangerous as any potential looters might be.

This is a good distraction from her own thoughts and is obviously doing its small part to clear her mind of whatever is occupying it.

Rey looks over to the circular 'sheet' on the ground and she gently nods her head as its edges start to cool. "We can set what we gather down on top of that and we should be able to collectively use it to return the items to the Falcon."

When she turns around she can see Leia making her way toward the open entry into the darkness. "The most we'll likely find in there are the rot worms that like to hide in the dark. They would've burrowed their way up through the sand on the open side of this debris chunk..." She rambles on a bit as she joins them at the entry way and would move to crawl in last behind the others.

INSIDE the 'chunk' is a lot of darkness and the bulkheads are completely covered in black burn marks... there was a fire in this chamber, likely as the Star Destroyer went down in a blaze 30 years ago. Leia's light would scan about and see terminals galore but they're all off-center... the 'floor' of the destroyer's room is on their left when they enter, the ceiling on their right.

Everything is unsalvaged and just in ruins after sitting here for so long after the flames went out on their own. Leia's light is soon to sweep over a sensor station where there are sadly three skeletal corpses all strapped into their chairs, slumped over by the pull of gravity and each wearing the remains of imperial uniforms.

"Careful, yes," Syrus says, stepping in after Leia, taking the time to slide the blaster pistol that she gifted to him out of its place in his bag.

"Charming to say the least," Syrus says, looking around the room they've ended up in. "Though, I guess it must be said that it's impressive that it's managed to hold up this long, even with all of the scavengers here."

"The main means of entry is buried several hundred feet into the sand." Leia points out as her light passes over both broken computer stations and corpses alike. In all essense, this has become a tomb in all intents and purposes.

The General steps up to one of the skeletal remains and frowns over the slumped over remains with her hands fixed in front of her. "I wonder which Destroyer this was..." She wonders aloud, turning so that her light shines across the uniforms to find any identifying markings.

Rey is standing next to the entrance when the other two push on further ahead. They all three had satchels that they'd gotten from the Falcon. "Right, so we'll want to get behind the terminals and get their circuit boards." She scans the area where Leia's light is and she's quite familar with what they'd find here... she'd spent more time around old dead bodies growing up than she did around the living.

Rey flips the light on on her own goggles and then pulls her half-mask up to cover her mouth. "Masks on too." She reminded them with muffled voice now.

"The Rager, I believe." Rey says to Leia as she passes her buy and moves to where the feet of one of the corposes is. "These terminals were fire proofed, so the items inside them should still be functional... the terminals were designed to always be serviceable after even a fire."

With the panel removed in moments, the skilled girl would started just prying pieces out like she'd done it a million times before.

"Ravager," Syrus answers, remembering the light research he did on the battle a few years ago. "Captained by Grand Moff Randd during the battle. You know; they never found his escape pod?" His blaster pistol hangs limpy at his side as he moves to get a closer look at one of the terminals, brushing away at the decades of grime that's accrued.

"I wonder if he's a part of the Order, now," Syrus muses to himself as he looks around this actual hulking piece of history. Because Syrus's player needs to go to sleep, however, the big man will just quietly hang back, and help pull the sled back to the Falcon when the time comes.

"Grand Moff Randd." Leia repeats the name of the commander, pursing her lips as she watches Rey dig through the remains of the station, "He was not listed amongst those who remained with the Imperial Navy after the battle of Jakku..." If her memory serves, which it usually does with these things. Names, especially the names of Grand Moffs, are easy to remember. Someone with that high a profile doesn't just disappear.

"What should I do, Rey?" She asks, feeling a bit useless standing here, even if she is providing light for the younger woman to work.

Rey is pulling items back out of the open terminal while crawling up onto the edge of one of the chairs that didn't have a burned up skeleton body in it. She's got a handful of parts already and she turns around to look at Leia, goggles and half-mask concealing most of her face. "Here." She says, offering the parts over. "They can go in the bag. Those alone could likely provide us with enough build the circuitry of a single lightsaber."

When Rey looks back at the console she grabs hold of it and pulls herself up past the dead crewman to perch herself on the edge of the comms computer. "Its weird being here, with you of all people, I have to say." She then speaks while leaning in further to yank and cut at some more pieces. "It suddenly feels as though I've never left at all, that I've woken from my dream of being on some 'grand adventure' but then." She pops a piece of metal tubing out of the computer's inerds and hands it back, its FILLED with little circuitry.

"But then I look and there you are, the leader of the Rebellion. Here on this... absurdly mundane scavenge run with me." Rey's smiling a little, but her mask is hiding it. "Its very very weird."

Apparently all she has for Leia to do right now is 'hold the bag' while she rambles.

Leia has no problem holding the bags and takes the offered parts to add to a growing collection in the sack she's got looped over one shoulder. She listens to Rey explain how this trip feels to her and grins a little herself, despite the distant glaze in her eyes. This is as much theraputic for her as for Rey, though for obvious different reasons.

"I can understand why you wouldn't want to come back here. I never did either." It took thirty years! "Huh... all of this for one saber? Going to be difficult building up a stockpile for future students."

"I never wanted to be left here." Rey immediately replies to Leia's words about being on Jakku and she says in a soft way, with a bittery edge to them completely unrelated to Leia of course--just entirely related to the fact that her parents were drunkards who sold her for... She releases a light exhale and draws another bundle of wires and circuit boards out to drop them into the bag with the rest. its getting a little heavy likely by this point.

"I think the saddest thing for Jakku as a whole is that that war, thirty years ago, was the biggest thing that ever happened to this planet and if it hadn't happened..." Maybe she never would've ended up here, but she probably would've been left somewhere else. "I don't know." She finishes her thought then, not really wanting to continue that topic.

Rey turns to see that Syrus is outside collecting sheets of metal like she'd asked him too, using the lightsaber to do it.

She drops down beside Leia. "We can't stay here after dark." She tells the Princess. "If the scavengers at the main body of the... Ravager... see us out here, at night, they'll come to take what we've picked so far. Through violence if need be." She turns around again and walks across the old comm room. "Its astounding what people will do, just to make enough money to eat." And those words are said with a soft dark tone. She'd had a hard life here, clearly.

"You need not worry about being left anywhere anymore." Leia assures Rey, placing the collected items in the bag dangling from her shoulder. She still doesn't believe that the girls parents are what Kylo said them to be, believes that there's too many things that make no sense about this explanation.

But it is clear that the girl wants to change the subject, so Leia doesn't press the issue. There's always another time for this discussion. HersRA "Perhaps we're in a position to help them not need to do anyhthing that either they or we will regret." The General officers with a raised brow. "I believe we could provide enough food for the shanty town to survive for several weeks... if they're willing to cooperate in scavenging this newly option section of ship?"

Rey is looking down and dealing with a bundle of balled up wires, unraveling them so that she can get at the core that is hidden inside the wires, she knows this is a Transition Bundle and that the cores are the most valuable parts. "I know, I'm sorry." She softly says about not being left behind. "Those fears are subsiding more every day... The meditating has helped more than I can even put to words."

When she gets to the core she pulls it out and holds it up, it almost looks like a Jedi Training Remote, but its got visible entry points that have shining polished metal inside it like little mirrors. "If we stick to the traditions of the Jedi Order where everyone builds their own saber, running a high risk of breaking what they're using for the first time... It might be even harder to maintain supplies."

Rey then glances back to Leia and drops that spherical 'core' into the bag. "Thats actually a rather compelling idea... bartering for their aide. But I worry that they might try to take the Falcon when they see they outnumber us by so many. Many of these scavengers are criminals who were left here as punishment for their crimes. They often search for ways to get back off the dusty rock..."

Leia watches Rey work curiously, head titled just a bit as she works the bundle of wires out and produces the small core which is dropped into the bag with the rest of what she's scavenged. "All they need is proper motivation." She points out with a smirk, clutching the bag up higher on her shoulder.

"They'll figure out pretty quickly that while they do out number us, we are hardly worth the effort of trying to take our ship.." She shakes her head a few times and looks out towards the dark glow of the suns beginning to set through the opening they cut open in the hull.

"Even criminals can appreciate a lucrative deal.. enough salvage to feed themselves and plenty more to start planning an escape from the surface."

Rey has to take some time to consider Leia's words as she wouldn't want to proceed with it if it wasn't something she was sure about. "We can give it a try. The Falcon has a lot of food reserves on it since we left the fleet... It really would be like, nothing they've seen in who knows how many years."

She pulls a new bag off of her shoulder and offers it to Leia. "I'll take that one out to Syrus so he can set it beside our new makeshift sled." She reaches out to exchange them and then turns toward the hatch that they'd cut in the wall.

"What I'd really like to do is go down to Niima Outpost and take all the food rations that Unkar Plutt has locked away in his cantina... give those to all the people outside that he starves to their bones... But, that would be too dangerous and foolhearty."
