Jedi Order: Lightsaber Training

OOC Date: May 11, 2022
Location: Tempes, Jedi Outpost
Participants: Yuun, Vhe Tenara, Vega, Nora Frayus, Qutha Buvu Pah, Ban Iskender, Aryn Cortess

The arena has changed somewhat since the Jedi have come to reclaim this ancient Jedi Outpost, with it being large enough to park everyone's ships, an area has been sectioned off just for them, and the rest of the arena looks to be a training ground, complete with an obstacle course. The arena looks to have been cleaned up pretty well, standing in the arena, is a figure most already know, his cloak isn't on him. Yuun has changed his clothing to fit the climate but it's still something of a trade mark, slightly stylish and ready for a fight.

Hovering around him are six training remotes, they are just floating as he stand there, his lightsaber clipped to his belt, his hands have fingerless gloves on them. He looks up into the stands watching and waiting for now, this is only another of a few training classes he's done, so there are still butterflies in his stomach, but he's here and ready.

Vhe had been exploring, making a day of it and arriving from the temple itself with a slight energy to her step. Wild hair is caught in a breeze causing her hands to rise upwards and tug at the locks to keep them from her face, tucking them back behind her ear as she can see Yuun waiting. A hand lifts into the air in silent greeting across the distance as the Ysanna strides in his direction, sandals held in her other hand as they swing from her fingers.

The simple tunic and pants she wears are fluid and free, a colorful sash wrapped several times around her middle keeps the top snug.

That is when she spies the remotes and her head tilts, amber eyes assessing the situation in a new light.

Vega's been on the Eravana mainly, fixing ships and making sure her wounds are tended to. She didn't want to use healing for some reason. She was being stubborn. She'd made it over to Tempes for the training that had been called up. She's standing quietly off to the side, watching everyone. She'd trained with the remotes at the Skywalker Academy, so they were not new to her. She's simply waiting for things to start.

Nora Frayus has been at the temple for at least a few days now. While not as frequenter a visitor to these grounds as some, the young Alderaanian seems to have taken a liking to a certain old abandoned house as well as the hot springs. It's not all just lazing about and redecorating a long-forgotten home, of course. She does -actual- work too, in between bouts of complaining about it. She's taken inventory, explored far reaches of the temple, and even practiced her meditation. As best as Lady Frayus can, at least.

"Ah, yes, well, I will not be making that mistake again. I still remember when I was told to bring 'swimming attire' and no one else wore a bathing suit," she says over her shoulder to the shambling form of Crag the rock-man. Though Crag is no longer shambling but, instead, has decided to stop immediately where he was walking, curl over, and fall asleep. Nora places both hands on her hips and gives a little puff of air up, blowing some pink hair from her face momentarily before it falls exactly back to where it was. "Asleep again? Daresay, you are such a slumbery creature. Ah well. I suppose when you are... rock and stone, or... mmmh," Nora shakes her head and turns, and Crag opens one eye to make sure she's actually gone. Breathes a rocky sigh of relief and goes back to sleep.

"Ah hello Yuun! And Miss Tenara. Such delightfully frigid weather we are having," she says, and then stops to look at those little training orbs with pursed lips and healthy curiosity. "How charming! What are they?"

Strolling from the Rock Bottom with his hood down and a pair of porgs being ushered back aboard by his R2 unit a Qutha arrives, brows lifted and eyeing the obstacle course and then the training remotes while his stride slows to something of a work-booted amble. Hands stuffed into pockets in his trousers and expression quizzical in consideration what it is he is going to be experiencing today.

"Suppose nows best time to see ifn' all that work v'been doin'll pay off." head turning to Vhe and offering her a small nod as he drags a small container out of his pocket and clicks it to eject what looks like a pill, grabbing it with his teeth and chewing slowly, lifting his hand towards Nora, clicking the box again and offering... whatever it is to the young noble on the move.

Ban Iskender remains attired in his familiar grey and green, half cape worn over the left shoulder, and gloves on both hands as the gentleman has gathered along with the others of the Order. When Nora calls the training remotes charming, a kee. eye might note a touch or wry amusement on the Alderaanian man's otherwise stoic countenance.

Aryn is quietly present, standing off to one side and allowing the wind to turn her cape at its whim. Her arms are crossed, hands in gloves, and she's wearing a warm, dark tunic with matching boots. Her meditative thoughts take her back to other things going on in her life, other people, and the consequences of the galaxy.

"Hello Padawans." he says to them. A smile showing on his face, he looks to each and he knows all of them. His smile is jovial and as he takes stock of each person, he nods his head, "I'm glad you all were able to make it today." he says. "This will be ongoing training, even if there isn't a class, you will need to train every day." he says as he looks from person to person. "Please come closer and have a seat." he sits right down on the ground, not worried about the dirt.

"Once you sit down, focus on the force. Your connection to it, feel it around you, from the ground, the person next to you, the trees, everywhere. Find yourself within it." he pauses. Watching everyone from where he sits, Yuun pulls out an intricate looking holocron and sits it down in front of him. "Once you've done that, I want you to find your lightsaber within the Force, feel your connection to it as well. Once you've done that, we will continue. If you've not felt the force, you will try again." he says in a calm tone.

Vhe smiles at Qutha when he gives her a nod, her attention shifting to what he offers Nora before the Ysanna comes to stand before Yuun with the remotes waiting. "A little chilly, but better brisk than sweating too much," Vhe counters and lowers to take a seat when asked. Her attention darts to the others, offering a faint smile so that in the moment she is a little too distracted to do exactly as instructed. Her reach for the Force is slow, late and accordingly she does not make that connection immediately as requested.

Instead she remains seated, her hands coming to rest on her knees once her sandals are presented to the ground beside her.

Vega moves forward, sitting down on the ground in a meditative position. The Echani doesn't look too stressed, but she doesn't automatically make the connection to her lightsaber like she was used to doing. Maybe she was more stressed than she realized. Either way, she closes her eyes and tries to focus more.

Nora looks around at those near to her, half expecting an answer to her question on what, exactly, those little floating training droids are. Instead of being given an answer, she's being given what resembles a -smug- smile from Lord Iskender, which makes Nora's own frosty blue eyes narrow just a touch. "I see! More Jedi riddles, then. Much like the 'swimming attire'. I am sure we will all have a laugh," she says, and settles down onto her knees as instructed. Nora Frayus does not have her own lightsaber -- not yet. However, she does have her crystal. A pale, blue thing like her eyes. Instead of producing a blade from her hip, she produces that small crystal from within her pocket and gently cups it with both of her hands.

The perception bubble. Aryn had taught her this as well and, though Yuun uses different words to describe it, she understands his meaning as well. It is, after all, different for everyone. Nora closes her eyes and delicately inhales. Then exhales. With each breath, she -listens- to the Force. The sound of it. Of the ground beneath her knees and the wind in the air. The chill and the stone. Slowly, opens up more of herself, letting each instrument of life and sound contribute to the music of the galaxy that she perceives. And then, the crystal. A soft, delicate tune. Fragile, and almost lost with the others. A little smile touches the noble's lips, and she tightens her fingers around the stone a bit more.

Plantawan should be the term, but no matter. Serene despite his mumbles and grumbles, maybe even because of them, Qutha steps forward to where he can settle in. Nora's distraction from his offer swings around towards Vhe, the little pill looking thing offered from the container in hand.

His concentration continues, wending into a lack of such and a sinking into simple existence among the luminous beings that surround him. The lightsaber on his belt thought of, the crystal within and the connection he made in its construction - the near perfection of it that had required barely a touch with his hands.

"Reckon 'could'a used somma this back on the Orchard."

Ban Iskender lowers to kneel on the ground, then sits back on his heels. Sword belt removed to lie on the ground on front of him, the dragoon regards the holocron briefly before turning his green regard to the speaker: Yuun. When bid to, his eyes close and a long breath is drawn through the nose. Calm before the storm comes all too naturally to the soldier.

Aryn follows her own mental path of meditation, pushing out the sounds of her surroundings and inviting the living force to convey what was around her. Her perception of her surroundings became more than perceived object, but rather an extension of her conscience. She could feel the wind as it moved in its invisible path, she could feel the life around them, detecting the beating hearts of people within her vicinity. Lightsabers containing the concerted presence of each user left impressions like ripples in the force, gentle hints of their owners, much like Aryn detected her own. Interfacing in this manner was about becoming one with the force; allowing yourself to be carried down the proverbial stream.

Yuun sits there watching everyone, Yuun inhales through his nose and he makes a fist with his right hand, and ridge hand with his left bringing them together and he bows his head as he finds his focus. He then slowly moves to stand up, his left leg comes out in front of him straight, as he uses his right to push him up. The holocron stays seated on the ground and as he is just about standing the holocron rises with him.

"They're training remotes Padawan Frayus." he says. "Even though you don't have your own lightsaber, you and the others will use them in your training." he says to all of them. "Even as far as I've come, I still use them and I still go over the Sevintie Cadence and Velocities training." he says to them. "The lightsaber is a Jedi's weapon, it's an extension of yourself, and in some of the readings I've done and still doing, it's your life." he says to them. He lowers his left leg down, "Hold that feeling you have, the reason for me asking you all to meditate, is because even during the chaotic times in a battle, meditation can help you focus and push out all of the distractions around you so you can focus on what's in front of you, help you quiet your mind." he says to them. "It can allow you to control your emotions at crucial times when dark thoughts begin to pull at you." his voice trails off a little.

Yuun walks around the gathered students, and he stops behind Vega, "Relax Padawan Vega. Breath.." he says. "I know you're going through a lot, right now is a time to reflect, heal, and most importantly be at ease for now." he says offering her words of encouragement.

He stands and continues walking and notices Aryn and he gives her a bow of his head, "Did you know laughter is also a good source of meditation Imitate Frayus?" he asks. A smile playing on his lips, "I didn't know about what happened with the swimming clothes thing but hey." he shrugs as he makes his way around. The holocron floating with him. "Now that you feel the connection, feel it with those beside you. We're all Jedi, and learning takes time, just like combat does. I will begin your combat training. Some of you are assigned to a Knight already, but we all learn can learn from one another. We've all been in combat, we all have our own style of fighting, so we will continue learning. Focusing on basic and the seven lightsaber forms within Battlemaster Cin Drallig's holocron." Yuun gestures, "Also we will work on unarmed combat as well. As there will be times we will need to be careful on using our lightsabers." he tells them.

Vhe is distracted by the sweetness in her mouth, the pill having been plucked from the Zelosian as he offered. Trust. So much trust. But the moment that sugar starts to hit her tastebuds, she smiles. It takes her a moment but eventually she draws upon the Force, feeling it flow through her, around her, connecting with all that resides around her. She can not help but smile still a she subsists not only on that connection but the small bit of candy that is quickly dissolving.

She glances up at Yuun once she has hold of that connection and begins to reach out in kind to connect herself with the others around her. Her companions and cohorts. A strange family but a family nonetheless.

Vhe is warmth and welcoming, the openness she presents guides her in her connection with the others.

Vega definitely doesn't like having folks behind her. Especially when her eyes are closed, but she just nods to Yuun's words and there is a hint of a strained smile from behind her ebony hood. Nothing really to say for the moment. Her brother was running around in a wannabe Darth Nihilus mask somewhere unattended, but everything was FINE! Really. She doesn't find the calm. Nor the ease. But she doesn't let it interrupt the training of others either. Her little gremlin brain just keeps focused on the here and now. She'd not had this much trouble with things since she first joined the order at the Skywalker Academy all those years ago.

It should probably be concerning how willingly and quickly Nora takes the offered pill from Qutha, places it on her tongue, and swallows it down without a moment's thought. It isn't until it's down the proverbial hatch that she tastes that sweetness, a confused expression flickering across the woman's face just before she's being addressed by Yuun. She straightens her posture a touch. "Initiate, Sir Yuun," she corrects as gently as she can. It doesn't feel right to be addressed by a title she has not rightly earned, after all. Her tongue smacks at the roof of her mouth, a bit of that residual sweetness on her hard palate and not going anywhere fast.

She's lost that tentative immersion within the force, snapped out of it by conversation and distraction, but the residual feeling of... warmth still surrounds her core. She delicately opens the fingers of her right hand, revealing that small crystal within her palm. Another happy little smile spreads across her face -- a joyous one that was, at one time, rare but seems to be growing more and more commonplace.

Combat training has stoked her curiosity and piqued her interest, too. Her eyes focus on Yuun as he speaks, but give a glance over her shoulder towards the other Jedi around her. Qutha, Vega, Ban, Aryn are all given a moment or two of consideration before she focuses back on the one giving the lesson.

In all honesty a lightsaber is the thing he prefer to use least and that small pang of distaste ripples around him, hands resting on his knees once his little container is tucked away once again, head tilting at a scratchy sensation in the small of his back. Shifting somewhat and leaning in an arch of the back when he feels it move higher. Breathing and quietly reaching for peace and then exhaling long when a feathery head pops out of his collar.

"BAwwwak..."

"Hush now..." whispered and for a wonder the little avian simply sniffs, climbs out of his robes and settles on his shoulder, flapping its wings twice before it goes still. Qutha, likewise quiets as well, eyes open but not focused, letting his feeling traipse through the force and even to the Porg that has decided to evade his rigorous clothing check before leaving the ship today.

The plantman back to peace, though peace and griping tend to be his default.

If one could be described as kneeling at attention, Ban would be. Breathing remains deep and measured, gloved hands are composed atop his knees, and the stoic young man waits in silence, listening as the day's agenda is outlined.

Aryn remains quiet and off to the side, her arms uncrossing so her gloved hands can clasp in front of her. The wind blows once more and her cape lightly shuffles to one side before returning to rest down the center of her back. As the duties of the day are announced, she begins to relax and open her eyes, catching a few glances and nodding, particularly at Nora before looking on.

"Thank you for the correction Initiate Frayus." he smiles to her. He looks to Vega watching her for a moment then to the others. "Today's lesson will be working on defense." he says to them. "A good defense, allows for an even better offense. Even in some of the most fiercest fights, it's your defense and trust in the force which will guide you." as Yuun comes back around, he faces them all and he glances towards the remotes. "Please pick up your weapons. For one hour, you will use the remotes. They are programed to increase in challenge as you meet certain requirements." he explains. "Also this holocron. Master Dralligs holocron. He was known as the Troll of the Jedi of the Old Republic. He mastered the seven lightsaber forms and even created the seventh form." he explains. "Please take time out to listen to his teachings. We will start with Form 1: Shii-Cho. This is the second form in a way of Lightsaber combat with Form 0 being the first." he thinks for a moment. "Can anyone tell me what is Form 0?" he asks.

He noticed the candy having been passed around, though he didn't say anything. Yuun moves his hands behind his back and the training remotes move off to pair with each student, but isn't programed to do anything yet.

The joy in life comes in many forms. Candy, company, comfort and more. Vhe's existence right now is made better by the slow sugar release. A smile draws across her lips before she pushes herself up slowly, climbing to her feet as she moves to give space for the others and herself. She pushes wild curls from her face as a hand deftly draws the bronze saber from her hip.

Tilting the hilt forward she brushes her finger against the recessed button as the pale blue blade springs to life, the kirruk tooth swinging from the leather braid off the hilt's end.

She reaches out through the Force and as one of the remotes rises, she brings it towards her and waits for any further instruction, her palm up with the device hovering just over her hand.

"Form Zero is to know to only draw one's lightsaber when absolutely necessary." Vega's voice rises enough for everyone to hear her. But she quiets after that. She opens her eyes and there is a look to the remotes that are being passed out. Her lightsaber stays on her belt for the moment. She gives a look over the others now that her eyes are open. Giving a bit of a nod to them.

Nora rises to her feet when she is approached by the training remote. She is charmed by the tiny little floating ball. Who wouldn't be! It's cute. She tips her head to the left and watches it move, and then to the right to watch it react as well. Of course, she has no idea it's going to be shooting her for about the next sixty minutes or so. She'll learn to despise the thing in due time! "Well, how do you do, my charming, floaty friend? I am Lady Nora Frayus, and I am pleased to make your acquaintance," she says, gathering up the left side of her Jedi tunic-turned-skirt and giving a polite curtsy.

"When to find an alt'nate method for a sitc'ation as opposed to jus' firin' up yer saber." Qutha offers, "It's my preference and t'were amusin' to find it in some of the teachin's while I've been practicing." Of wandering on his own like some hermit, borrowing books from Rey's library and returning them with, more often than not, carefully cleaned covers. As though maintenance was meditation to him.

And not to mention the occasional potted plant left for the desert born woman.

"Saber should be a last r'sort, but it seems very often it's the first answer, at least f'some. Reckon I s'pose with how 'ggressive things tend to be, that'll leech int'folk." standing up without any sort extraneous motion - simply rolling up to a kneeling posture before lifting up to his full height.

Ban Iskender reaches down to detach his lightsaber hilt from the empty sheath of his sword belt, setting the belt aside. First one boot is planted to the ground, and then Ban rises smoothly to stand, back straight and head high throughout the motion. As for Form 0, he adds only to the answers of Vega and Qutha, "As so. Alas that such is not always possible." Nora's genteel chatter with the little droid that will soon be attempting to zap her in the nerve clusters is heard, but not commented upon.

Aryn had learned much from Drallig's teachings, though after learning what she knew from the basic defense stances and posh dueling classes on New Alderaan. Her preference was more to the refined and graceful style of Form II, though you would never hear Aryn admit it out loud. She enjoyed the poise of this discipline, and the elegant efficiency and perceptive accuracy it required to repel an opponent's strike with practiced motions. Unfortunately, Aryn fell prey to the more brutal, strength based disciplines. Being small was her true handicap, but Yoda always said, size matters not.

Aryn does not pair off with a remote, but she observes the others quietly, coming to appreciate Yuun's style of teaching so she could have a different perspective on the topic should she find herself instructing a pupil who had no background in swordsmanship.

Listening and watching, "Vega, Qutha and Ban, you're all correct." he says to them. "With how things are right now, it's mostly shoot now and ask questions later." he tells them. "Each situation will be different and you must trust in the Force and its guidance. Also you must be able to understand the situation of what's going on." he tells them. "Form 0 is what we should all learn to do and drawing our weapons is the last resort." he explains.

"Now today will be Day 1 of training, I will put up a training schedule for you all, it will be similar. Right now we will go over the basics of defense. Please draw your weapons, Initiate Frayus, I would like to see you use your stunsaber more, I want you to get an idea of the weight, and to understand the weapon better. If you already do that is great, still for now on we will use this. I will also be teaching unarmed combat to you all as well as the other Knights. I will do my best as your teacher, if none of you have a Knight to train under, I'm willing to train you as well outside of our classes. You can find me here most of the time or out in the wilderness." he explains.

Yuun unclips his lightsaber from his belt and activates it. "First Defensive posture." he brings his weapon into a mid-guard. Then he transition into a high then low guard. Each move isn't shifted or forced, each flows into one another like water. He moves slow and how he moves would indicate when he's in action it would seem to blur together. "Now follow me, go." he says as he does it again. "Feel the force flow all around you, feel it through you, feel it as you fight against your foe." he says to them as he starts with the mid-guard and moves through all three basic defensive techniques.

As they are asked to draw into a defensive stance, Vhe allows the remote to slide back towards the ground, beside her. It lands, thankfully without breaking before she is drawing her saber up in a cross block, her right food sliding back, her left foot pointing forward as she bends her legs and eases into a readiness. It is not an aggressive position but one of readiness.

She flexes her hands upon the hilt to keep them loose and even if the Force and its calm nature is lost to her, she is able to hold her position, watching Yuun and giving him a nod. "Now more than ever...we are not going to be welcome and these are a beacon," she remarks. She stares at the hilt of her blade for a moment, adjusting her grip before she gives a slow nod, as if happy with the position she has adopted.

Vega is most likely the one person not able to meditate and it's just her. She's never been good at it. She is however not bad at defending with her lightsaber, making sure that the little zap doesn't hit her. And she doesn't strike back either. Not wanting to bat the remote into the next star system.

Defense. Defense is not one of Nora's strengths. From a young age, she was trained to be lethal. To always be on the offensive. To keep the tip of her blade and the position of her body prepared to deliver a lethal strike at a moment's notice. Perhaps that is why she has refrained from commenting on Form 0. How does one define 'last resort' in the intensity of a moment, when the body moves through reflex and instinct alone. She gives a soft sigh and, instead of trying to reach the answer herself, calms her mind. It's getting easier to listen to the force. To let its melody start to take hold in her mind and, with its rhythm, move her body. Still, her stunsaber drawn, she still manages to make a defensive stance look like she's about to bat that adorable little ball halfway across the Jedi Temple.

She probably is.

The movements from Qutha are, perhaps ironically, akin to reeds bending when he moves. Quietly practiced now publicly displayed. Eyes seeming dull but twitching towards movements around him while he weaves the bright blue saber he carries, with its wood sheathed hilt and sun-disk switch.

"Being unwelcome... is welcome." commented in a soft voice that come to the beat set by his footsteps, "Having to act while going unnoticed unless absolutely necessary"

He lets himself drift towards Nora, maybe sensing the little line that won't form on her perfect brow, at least not physically before leaning in slightly to murmur to her, privately.

Ban Iskender goes through the precise motions as outlined. His movements of body and blade are less smooth and flowing than they are crisp, swift moments. Although his calm and stoicism are unbroken throughout, any with the thought and skill to read his manner might detect an element of boredom with the basics. Or perhaps that's just serenity.

Aryn continues to observe as Yuun does, the motions of the others and how they go through the motions of defense. Her hands unclasp from her front and clasp over her lower back, then she juts her hip slightly, allowing it to emerge from the confines of her cape and show off the curved hilt on her belt. A training remote hovers near her and she regards it with a side eye and points, "You better not.." The droid zips one way then another.
