Log:Jax's Moment of Wisdom
Jax's Moment of Wisdom
OOC Date: January 31, 2016 (Optional)
Location: Practice ring at the Resitance Base
Participants: Ambrosia Greystorm, Jax Greystorm, Sesti Gath
A package arrived at the base for Sesti, long and narrow. Once she had it in her hands, she went straight out to the training ring off to the side of the tarmac. A purple glance looked down the row for a certain fighter, then she ducked into the padded area and knelt in the center, unwrapping the package. Orders have already been issued, and in two hours time she is due in the briefing room before boarding the shuttle for the next mission to Serrano, but she's in her practice tunic and pants, no armor to be seen.
Dagger's second Op is hours from deployment, and she's not going. Grounded. Certainly not for disciplinary reasons, but that's the way it feels for the old groundpounder as she 'pounds' out her frustrations on an unfortunate dummy mounted on a swivel pole. She'd been asked to stay behind, give Master Sgt the lead on this one, and break in a few 'fresh' faces new to the base. Anyone could break fresh faces. That reasoning was just a facade - the General's silver tongued way to say she ought to pace herself. To say she's getting old.
The ragged expression on the dummy's face whirls a couple hundred degrees around as she delivers a stomping kick to its would-be 'knee' before swinging that same leg up and around to catch it behind the head and hook it in the crook of her leg for a slamming drop to the mat. The heavy base of the pole doesn't make that easy of course, causing the entire takedown to appear far more awkward than desireable. She lays there, staring into the sky, with a resin-molded face hugged practically to her ass in choke hold. Maybe she's tired. Maybe her knee's just stuck. Either way, the major seems content to remain thus.
Blue 2, the Incom T-70 Snub Nose fighter commonly called a X-wing like it's precessor and it's replacement is sitting on the tarmac. The X-wing has Flight Crew going over it. It does not look like it will fly the next mission. A white and blue R2 unit sits observing the flight crew and helping. At the sight of Sesti going past. The little guy deploys his third wheel and moves to start following after the zabrak doctor. Though Jax himself has not shown up at the moment.
Luckily for the higher ranked ground pounder, Sesti is currently too engrossed in her package to notice the lack of grace on the takedown. The paper is torn off, and then one of the vibrodaggers that is always at her hips, armored or not, makes quick work of the tape and the flaps on the box. She resheaths, then tears through the straw and packing material to pull out the shrink-wrapped sheathed blade. Her eyes glow as she lifts it, and then her sharp teeth take a hold of a corner of the plastic wrapping and tear it open. It's then that she sees the figure that accomplished the thudding of the mats is the Major. "Did you leave the dummy usable for the recruits, Major?" she asks lightly. The little ble and white shadow is also noted, and she gives Exine a nod. "Making sure they take proper care of your ride?"
"They can beat on one another. Moving targets are better training," Amber excuses, unmoving for a few moments more. Her right leg relaxes its grip, sliding heel free from beneath the weight and letting it flop alongside its mate. A sigh sends a silvery wisp fluttering from her line of sight. Ignoring the droid as it zooms along, she curls into a seated position and pokes some hair back into place inside the braided knot.
Exine beeps an 'Of Course' at Sesti. Though he turns and extends a claw hand to Amber as if offering to help her up. Which is better than what he does to Jax in those situations. He tries to drag him to safety. About that time a figure in running shorts and a t-shirt runs around the corner and stops going to a walk. The way he looks disheveld he's appearing to be finishing his run and cooling down.
The plastic wrapping comes off, and then the scabbard can be seen. It's a darker neutral color, with a harness strap to secure it tightly to her back. The hilt is smooth, but nothing shiny, nothing to reflect the light, and she wraps her fingers around the grip, wiggling them a little to get the feel before she pulls it out. It's obviously thinner than most vibroblades, and is, in fact, made for one handed use. She takes a breath, smiles, and exhales, standing. Her other hand comes up, fingers straight and together, and she rests the blade at the balance poin on her hand, letting go with her other hand to watch it level. "Beautiful," she murmurs. Then she takes it in hand again and the air is slashed in an basic pattern as she tests the feel of it.
"Perhaps you could join us, sometime, Major. I could use some time learning, instead of teaching." She shifts to a normal stance, rather than en guarde, but the blade is still in her hand. Her back is to the corner as she watches bemused to the droid offering a 'hand' up to the Major.
Amber offers the droid an eyeroll and dismissive wave in exchange for its AI kindness. "Think I'll manage," she grunts and hops her feet beneath her before reaching to heft the dummy back into a more upright position. She dusts it off, glancing at a body rounding the corner, mid-jog. Her hand uplifts with a brief wave, then finally turns a more proper nod of acknowledgment to Sesti and her "New toy?"
Jax isn't really winded as he comes walking up. "Ladies." He says moving to get a bottle of water, "Exine." He then shrugs his shoulders, "How are you two doing?"
"It is new," Sesti confirms, although she does not call it a toy. "I prefer a weapon to each hand, rather than two hands on one weapon." The Major's wave turns her head, and she gives Jax a smile as he walks up. "I see you are grounded for a bit," she nods towards the X-wing being refitted on the tarmac.
"Looks shiny." Shrugging, Amber stretches her arms behind her back and bends forward to send the ripple of pops and cracks along her spine. Makes everything like new! While Sesti busies with ship talk, she gives the dummy a few solid pokes and prods to assure it's stable again.
Exine beeps at Jax and Sesti then spins around and returns to Blue 3. "Yeah the engines hit the required hours that Blue 3 needs to be have a complete diagnostic and maintenance. So unless they give me another fighter. No go anywhere for me. I hear gossip that you guys are ship out soon." He looks at the blade. "New Weapon?"
"Yeah, they're leaving all right, and I don't get to play." Ambrosia smirks, squinting at the slender blade as it arcs about. "I hear that. Want some help?" Stalking over to where some training weapons are racked, she gives the Zabrak some time to think it over.
Jax shrugs, "Looks like their not letting either of us play Mom." He looks back to Sesti, "YOu be careful. Don't do anything I would do. Hell don't do anything that Keal would do. "
"Do not worry yourself on that score," Sesti tells Jax with a little smirk. "I am too smart to do anything of the sort. I make sure that my team can make the jump with me before I leap." At Amber's offer, she bows her head respectuflly. "I would be honored, Major."
"Fantastic." Amber plucks a staff free from the rack and tosses it lightly from hand to hand a couple times before sending it on a lazy spin round her wrist and behind the back. "Let me know when you need to split. Don't wanna make you late for the briefing," a wink.
Jax chuckles as he's ignored by his mother and takes a drink of his water. He watches the two start to spar. If he's rooting for one or the other he's definetly not going to say which."
Sesti tests her Melee:vibro weapons skill at a 100 difficulty. +SUCCESS+ (52). Ambrosia Greystorm tests her Melee:simple weapons skill at a 100 difficulty. +SUCCESS+ (9).
Purple eyes watch the staff whirl around without expression, and then when Amber is ready, she nods. "Of course, Major," she replies smoothly. She loosens her wrist to give one rotation of the blade and then she settles into her first position. She hardly even blinks before she lunges forward, striking quick and straight to get under the Major's guard. She remains expressionless when her strike is glanced to the side and regroups, settling back into her stance like a snake that's made a quick warning strike and settled back down onto it's coils.
The staff became one with the Major's arm, meeting the strike with a rap up and around, altering the course of the blade narrowly. She waits while Sesti regroups and circles a couple steps to the left, keeping the staff on the move. A feint, twirl, then wrist locks to deliver a back-handed strike to the young woman's thigh.

Jax continues to watch queitly theres a wince at Sesti thigs but he doesn't say a word. He just takes a drink of water and watches the fight continue to play out.
The staff whirls and comes down, Sesti pivots and blocks the strike, pushing the momentum past her and then she steps past, tapping the back of the Major's calf with the deactivated blade before turning back towards her opponent, her thigh untouched. She waits on the balls of her feet for the woman to move again.
Amber whips back around into a crouch, nodding approvingly. "Seems like a good fit," she speaks of the blade and shifts to and fro on the balls of her feet, contemplating her next move. The staff rests across her shoulders, feet repositioning slightly while knees bend...and she darts forward, spinning, staff helicoptering just once over head before being wielded in two-handed fashion for a thrust at Sesti's throat.

Jax is drinking his water and a bit shocked at this being more equal matched than he figured. He knew his girl was good with melee weapons. His mother though is well a living legend. He sits there a bit impressed. "Wonder if If I should have Exine here to record this and send it to Dad?... Nah."
The compliment is barely acknowledged, as words are a distraction and Sesti doesn't wish to go that route. As the stiff whirls again, she crouches slightly, her parry low as she expects another low blow. Her chronometer beeps, but still she resists distraction, not reaching to turn it off, yet. Despite this, she realizes that she's misread the direction of the staff, and her low parry is wrong choice. She lifts her arm, turning, trying to duck and block with her arm as a last resort, but the staff slides over top and rests the butt end against the side of her throat. Instead of being disappointed, Sesti smiles broadly as she stands back up, acknowledging the hit. She reaches over to tap her chronometer. "It is indeed a pleasure to find that you live up to your reputation, Major," she tells the woman with a respectful bow. "I regret I cannot continue, however. I must make ready for the briefing."
"Wouldn't want to disappoint." Ambrosia doesn't sound worried. Relaxing her stance in response to the bow, she tucks the staff under her arm and makes a motion to shoo Sesti off. "Go on. Get back in one piece and we'll pick up where we left off, yeah?" She forces a smile, heaving a deep breath to catch up with the Oxygen thing. A short spar, but a worthy opponent nonetheless!
Jax gets up from his vantage point. "Good luck out there Sesti." He says moving to give her a brief hug and even a small kiss. He was still sweaty. "And stay safe." He then turns to look at Amber. He turns to look at Amber. "Hey Mom."
Picking up the scabbard, Sesti nods to Amber, not wasting time with any more salutes after the shooing motion. She slides the sword back in and puts it over her shoulder. "I will look forward to it, of course." She pauses, one arm going around Jax's waist underneath his when he hugs her, meeting the brief kiss. "Please pick up my box for me? I must run." Then she slides out of his grasp and trots towards the barracks to get suited up.
"Jax," Amber nods back at him, watching Sesti trot off. "So you're not in on this one, eh?"
Jax nods and moves to pick up the box. "Nope. I'm out of it. Blue 3 needs routine maintenance. We got more pilots than working fighters. I'm not taking the Pheonix into combat. Not against those Ties." He shrugs, "So I get to be grounded." He turns back to watch Sesti go, "What did you do when Dad went into combat and you stayed behind? What did he do?"
"Not a thing differently than I'd do any other day," Amber confesses, words not as soothing or helpful as perhaps a mother ought be. But her tone is softer. Walking by Jax, she gives his arm a little nudge with her own. "Can't say I ever asked him, but for me...I keep the worrying upstairs," a tap to her brain, "under lock and key and go about my business. It's better that way." And she keeps on walking, sauntering over to return the staff to its resting place.
