Gimme the Prize
OOC Date: February 27, 2024 (Optional)
Location: Somewhere near the Hydian Way Hyperlane.
Participants: Amaia Dara, Sumi Kora, Terek Rosol, and Hadrix Kora as GM
The Bloody Resolve and Kyr'am Ra Kote were wrecking havoc in space - the eternal night akin to a thunderstorm in the clouds of Yavin as coherent light stabs back and forth with the two cruisers point compliment fending off the fighters that hadn't fled at the sight of warships dropping from lightspeed.
<<"Buir, we're screening you in">> Kar's voice over comms, piloting the Mythosaur with his sisters flying flank in the old ARC-170. Cannons shrieking, the old 'Boarding Pod' with the full compliment of attackers was hurtling towards the asteroid base of the pirate organization. Designed to punch through battlestation bulkheads, it was more like a solid slug than a craft - directional thrusters keeping it on target. Distance counters over every seat ticking down in a blur and laser fire spattering against its overpowered shields.
Some of the pirate craft initially launched in response were turning to run, heading for jump points and more were likely powering up within. <<"Hit them hard, make their eyes water...">> pirunir sur'haaise <<"Strike, move, I expect if their leader is going to run he'll have the goods with him.">> Hadrix's voice over comms, checking his gear - head down and body shaking. Tapping into the old rage, the battle madness that has carried him through countless battles.
The distance continued to fall like lead weights in water, dropping into triple digits and still falling.
Mai Dara was out of her ship, but in her element. Though the female Dara did appear to be the most genial of sorts (unless she had access to a turret gun), she had been trained for just such occasions as these. Pirate hunting, pirate deceasing. Armor on, weapon in hand, the twinkling fairy lights on her jetpack announcing that both the thrusters and the rocket were armed and ready. She waited, though, in silence, counting down the minutes to the go point. Best to save energy when it could be saved.
Sumi sat idly with her chosen weapon held out in front of her, the blade making a soft noise as she spun the weapon upon its tip over and over in idle energy. She was not the nervous sort, but anxiety reached all, regardless of how experienced one was in the art of war. She was anxious to see this through, to return home to Lady Fae and see what trouble the Hapan had stirred up for them next.
Terek had both of his pistols in their holsters, holding onto the handrails on his seat. Counting down in his head while watching the altitude counter drop. The calm before the storm was always something that he loved. The anticipation of battle. It was a feeling that couldn't quite be replicated.
The impact was a roar of chaos and the shriek of tearing metal with the jarring shift of weight as the craft's artificial gravity combats the stations. Flexible bulkheads pushing out and small emitter hooks launching to seat and engage a mag-con field to maintain atmosphere where the sides of the craft can't seal while clamps slam into place to hold the boarding pod steady.
When the front opens like a bloom, adding to securement the seats are facing a downward angle into a chow hall before restraints drop and those aboard are allowed to move forward into shifting gravity and a room previously emptied now having a surge of figures through the two sets of doors at, relative, twelve and three o'clock positions.
Wide eyes and raised blasters rise to meet the invading mandalorians, some of those wielders kicking over tables to form cover.
As soon as the restraints released, Mai was on the move, moving out with the rest of the team, though it seemed she was more towards the front (alas), and not close enough to make use of the dagger which she had selected for her day's weapon. Sometimes you just needed to shank a pirate face to face, you know? But, she had her vambrace ready, and a bolt of red hit the closest pirate she could get to. Laser now, dagger soon. Wait for it.
The sound of heavy metal landing against the plated deck of the chowhall announced the arrival of the short, blue-armored Sumi. Not even in hero stance, she maintained her meager height with a large sword in hand, her helmeted head lifting so its mirrored-visor gaze reflected the faces of their foemen as they stared her (and present invading company) down.
Igniting the jets of her rocketpack, Sumi closed the distance in a flash, initially cutting a man's right leg, only to pivot with momentum and then cleanly amputate said leg with a single pass of her sword. <"YAAH!"> She yelled out, the strain of moving the large weapon having a toll on her ability to stay quiet. Sweat already decorated her brow.
Terek lands with a massive crunch after firing off his rockets at the last second before impact. He takes a moment to settle down and do a quick scan of the pirates in the area. When Amaia hits one of the pirates with her laser, Terek follows it up with a shot from his W-35 to the same guy, ensuring that he won't be getting back up. Unfortunately as he moves to fire at a second target his aim is off, hitting a bulkhead instead.
Liquified fire hurtles overheads in a coiling arch for one of the cover positions, spraying multihued plasma over one of the pirates who leaps to begin putting himself out by rolling on the floor, howling in panic while the source, Al'Verde Kora approaches the exit they block in slow steps.
The pirates, their fighting numbers halved, try to return fire, blasters kicking and carving spirals in the smoke filling the room from the expenditures of tibanna gas hurling bolts too and fro.
Out in the halls more figures can be seen moving, all rushing in the same direction while the impromptu rearguard provides a distraction for the attacking mandalorians.
Mai did not rush forward, though she did manage a nod of thanks in Terek's direction as he cleared the way of one pirate, giving her access to a second. Her right arm rose, allowing a bolt to sheer off of the shield that bloomed in that arm. It was knife work from here on out, as the silent Dara (though, she could well be cursing inside that helmet) lunged forward, the sheen of a clean dagger soon bloodied as she drove it into a second body, tall enough, almost, to look her victim in the eye as she twisted the knife, drew it back, plunged it in a second time. She didn't quite clear the body though, and the dead (now) weight fouled her aim as she sought for her next target.
Sumi stepped aside to avoid being attacked, it was such a simple motion that stirred such anger in response. Sumi responds with a counter, swinging the sword horizontally with precision and strength, cutting through two pirates simultaneously. It wasn't enough to kill both, but they felt their insides split and cut. There was no surviving this without bacta, and Sumi didn't look like she was done, yet.
There's weapons fire in every direction, Mandalorians moving in with melee weapons. Terek has to keep holding his fire until the ones in close range move out of the way, finding himself faced with several pirates that have been slashed and stabbed by his fellows. He fires with both weapons in rapid succession, putting two of the pirates on the ground in the process. The third one may soon wish he'd been hit by a blaster bolt though.
Spun to one side by blaster fire smashing into his rebracer, Hadrix is forced to stutter step while all but one of the remaining pirates in the mess are laid low. Continuing his path for the exit otherwise unphased, arm swinging to the side to fairly casually coat the chest and face of a pirate in flames.
<<"I'm seeing sensors reading a big power signal and a lot of life signs moving towards it, your eight out of your area.">> Lady Faye over comms, adding to the din as the figures rushing past the doors cease but the sounds of their footfalls continue to echo. The entire base shakes as something strikes the asteroid and a rise of calls can be heard as well.
As soon as the report came, a second before the feeling of rumbling reached the soles of her feet, Mai Dara shifted, starting off at a dead run to get to whatever was causing that noise, <<"I have a feeling we'll be needing to stop an escape craft. And hope this rock stays in one piece.">> Thankfully, she could talk and run, which she did. Jets fired as soon as she was clear of the door, using the momentum from the jetpack as she plowed into one of the pirates who had turned to hold off the invading force. One stab, two stab, but no three. Next time. Bleed a little while you wait.
Sumi closes the distance quickly, but clearly she did not like to run. When she struck, it was off balanced but fueled by momentum and pure strength. She lodged the massive weapon into the chest of her foe and they fell to the ground, arteries spraying blood as she fought to try and dislodge the weapon where she had hacked it in, and had it stuck on bone.
With one boot propped on their body, she pulled back with a loud grunt; winded from the 10 steps she took to run. Ugh.
The cathar has been bracing as the rear guard came in, turning with his left hand and firing a pair of shots into one of the attackers, <"We better get moving then if we're going to catch that escape ship."> Terek responds after he finishes off the last of the pirates, turning the weapon around and holstering it on his side after a moment.
It was akin to being a plasboard 'breaker' when the tide came in - armored forms with blades smashing into them and laying figures low or wounding while micro-rockets spiral in to imbed in the chests of two before blowing them backwards to slide down the corridor while their fellows continue their dash for wherever it is that they're going.
The passage lightening from deck lights combined with the blazing emerald and ruby lights visible outside of the magcon field keeping atmosphere in place.
As the quartet, practiced movements and experience allow for a split second to see what is about to happen before heads are put down, the fusillade of repeater fire from a final group of a half dozen trying to catch the Mandalorians in the hatchway and cut them down - the onslaught continuing, but evaded for the moment - the group pulling back towards the lowered ramp of a heavily modified bulk freighter that looks modified into a poor man's light corvette.
Nothing Mai could do with the ship from this far out, though that didn't stop her from charginf forward as the last of the rear guard fell, and she managed not to get cut in half by the repeater fire. Not the best angle of attack, she would give them that, but then, neither was she. Still trying to get close, Mai activated the rocket built into her jetpack, the sizzling whine loud, even in her helmet-protected ears as it was launched towards the clustered pyrates making for the escape ship. The impact was loud, and blindingly bright, but, alas, had not knocked them down like pins. She could hope for shrapnel injuries, couldn't she?
These were the elite. And they had to get past them if they'd have any chance to get to that leader and the cache they'd have with them. Terek's W-35 flashes twice in rapid succession as he drops one of them, trying to take aim and missing his target as a blast catches him just inside one of his armor plates on his leg, sending him sprawling to the ground for a second from the spike of pain, as he lets out a roar of surprise, scrambling to try to get back up onto his feet, there's still a job to be done and there'll be plenty of bacta later.
In the havoc of the explosions, heads forced down and attentions split by flying warriors, some are forced to a halt, trying to judge their positions - the one who had been on the ramp rolling down it towards their fellows.
One of the retreating pirates, barking at his minions and firing a heavy blaster with one hand is making for the ramp ahead of the others - an octagonal case hanging from one hand as he goes - using the butt of his weapon to encourage one of the others before he's out of range to do more.
At the rear of the Mandalorian pack, Hadrix's head tilts and his target finder swings down before his visor, head turning slowly where he stands as targets are highlighted in his HUD, growling as movements remain chaotic and only a single target marks green. Marching forward into fire, left arm raising.
Well, at least they were making this relatively east. Might have gone with not barking orders, or holding the clearly very important suitcase. Mai was not close enough to give the man what for with her dagger, but she still had a shot at him. As she raised her shield to screen herself from incoming fire, her left arm rose, that bolt of red scaping to catch the man in the back. Not enough to put him down, but maybe enough to slow him down for the others.
Sumi is struck in the side, just between the gap where armor plating stops. Had her arm been down, it would have struck her arm, but it hit ribs and found purchase. Enough that she cried out in anguish and stumbled to one side. True to Sumi's nature, she adjusted, throwing herself back into the fight and killing a man carrying a package of some sort. Sumi did not target them for this reason, she was just trying to kill something else before she gets hit again.
The explosion of a fragmentation grenade goes off, removing all notion of noise from her range of hearing. Everything was ringing now, and she felt something strike the armor plating of her arm, but nothing as to cause concern beyond a bruise.
When she swings at another target, it's a valiant miss, and the blade clangs noisily off the ground as she stumbles from fatigue and energy to control its momentum.
Quickly holstering his weapon, Terek reaches down into his pouch on his side and draws a small metal sphere. Flipping the switch on the back of it, he lobs it blindly over his cover towards the nearest group of pyrates. He's not really looking where the actual throw is going, <"Frag out!"> He calls over comms, to at least give some kind of warning to the group.
It'll explode when the fuse reaches zero, which should be somewhere more than three and less than five.
A single shrieking mini-rocket crafted of beskar surges from Hadrix's gauntlet as he approaches, spiraling in to strike one of the pirates in the face as they begin pulling themselves up from the wake of Terek's grenade. Only two standing, scrambling for the freighter that is already raising its ramp behind Sumi while the craft itself rocks forward, landing struts scraping up sparks while it leaves the others behind.
The case, rolling despite its edges comes to a halt nearby and the remaining pirates try to save themselves while their intended chariot moves away and begins to gain speed.
One could only hope that the case now trying to roll away to its own escape was the prize. Well, by one, this writer means Mai, as the Dara took off at a sprint, trying to clear the area and get to the case in time, before it was lost to the elements. Or jetwash. That was a thing. A bolt from her laser took down one of the pirates in her way as she attempted to scoop up the case.
Sumi, incapable of managing her momentum, falls to one side and lands hard on the deck. It isn't a matter of concern though, she seems content to sit and watch their retreat all while prepping a smoke by patting out the crumpled pack.
The last of the pirates, rolling clear of the shots from the cathar has time to see the ship exit the magcon field and begin to angle before turbolaser fire slams into its side again and again the engine nozzles barely missing the edge of the docking bay hatch before it twists out of control pushed against the rocky terrain and its explosion shakes the entire facility again.
<<"We have the extraction craft homing in on your signal.">> Pheegus this time, announcing the incoming ship.
Silence, save for distant sirens, descended on the bay with the last of the defenders gone. Prize quite literally in hand. Hadrix stands over the one watching his escape going up in flames, not giving time to be noticed before the plasma thrower in hand sprays and iridescent flames sheathe the poor sot <<"Copy. Have Mir prep medical... We have wounded inbound.">>
