Log:Defiance: Hairtrigger Heist
Hairtrigger Heist
OOC Date: June 03 2018
Location: Hairtriggers - Hutt District - Nar Shaddaa
Participants: Defiance: Hex, Vasani, Darius Wildes, Zhu Yan, Sajin, and Kasia as GM
It's late evening, late enough that the city is... well, ok, it's not dark, but that's because it's never actually dark, there is far too much neon and flashing lights for there to be proper dark outside, but it's as dark as it gets. Kasia isn't here, Hex will know she's off delivering something to somewhere boring, so everything that needs taking care of falls to him while she's away. Which is why, when there's an alert sent out via some system that Naelyn probably put into place, it goes first to Hex's datapad, and then to other members of Defiance. Something is wrong at Hairtriggers, the weapon shop in the Hutt district. What's wrong is unclear, but the droid that tends the shop has sent out the warning, and then nothing else. The shop itself is closed up, closed earlier than it usually is, and the lights inside are off and the door is locked. To the average person, it just looks closed, but some members of Defiance who are familiar with at least some of the workings will know something is off. If the droid is still inside, there's no sign of him.
Hex is here. Taking care of business. Or something? He's got that stressed look like somebody who had to find a last minute babysitter at a weird hour, and correspondingly, he's in a pissy mood. "DROID," he yells at the door as he sets about unlocking it, because this is Defiance and stealth is not our thing, "If you're kriffing around in here with a false alarm, I WILL shoot your circuits to little melty bits, ok ka? I WILL DO IT."
"Ayo mugshots, gun shots, dope shots, jump shots. " Darius sings a neat little tune as he walks down the side of the street. "Take your pick, but you only get one shot." It just so happens he is in the same area of hair triggers and walks right up on Hex as he is screaming at the door. "Advice from a schoolteacher to a young tot." He makes some weird hand signs to the green twi'lek as he poses around him a bit before laughing. "Whatcha doing pal?"
Vasani was just having a nice night at the Blue Light when the alert was sent out. Even though everyone in Defiance got the same message she still instinctively contacts Darius, letting him know something is up and that she's on her way to help. Hex had run off ahead, so by the time Vasani gets there he is already there. And would you look at that, Darius is here too! But he doesn't seem concerned in the slightest. "Dare?" She just questions, not sure how he hadn't seen it yet. "Did ya' find anything?" Attention is immediately turned to Hex.
Sajin comes running from where ever he had been, probably the Hanger or a nearby dive getting fat on some greasy space food. "Hey... Boss... what's going on?" He asks from behind his helmet, looking over towards the door. He notices Darius and Vasani already here. "Man... you guys beat me here? UHG Why is everyone beating me. I need to lay off the space fries or something."
"Honestly what the bet that a droid, a droid of all things, is kriffing around?" asked Yan, almost rhetorically, but somehow knowing he was gonna get a straight and direct answer. He had followed Hex to the alert location, complaining all the while about things going wrong whenever the Twi'lek was in the neighbourhood. He had his left hand comfortably in his jacket pocket, and his right hanging loosely near his Bryar pistol. "Honestly, this looks fisher than that thing you pulled out of the sewers that one time."
If DROID is there and playing a trick, it's being real sneaky about it, but as Yan said, it seems unlikely. The door to the shop is unlocked, Hex has a key, and it is a key because codes are a bad idea with Hex. Possibly keys are too, but you need to have something. There's a smell in the air, a little like ozone and burnt plastic, nothing too overpowering, but present and not the usual smell of the weapon shop. There are no lights active anywhere in the shop, even places there SHOULD be lights, any attempt to turn lights on in here result in nothing. Power to the shop has been cut somewhere.
"Stop. What are you doing. Stop! VASANI CONTROL YOUR HUMAN," Hex grumps, swatting ineffectively at Darius like he's some kind of hovering spacebug. "Sajin, Yan," he greets next, with a sigh. "I don't know. I don't really know why the alert went off, hopefully it's nothing. But if it's something, we're going to shoot it." And ask questions later. Or find out it's way too late to ask questions. He tries several keys on his ring before one eventually beeps with success in the door, and then steps in, leading with the pistol out. "Hello? Droid? ...Hello?" There's an attempt at the light, but nope, nothing. "Szu'tak, what the hell. AY WHO'S MESSIN WITH MY SHOP? MY WIFE IS GONNA BE SO MAD," he threatens the darkness, because we all know who the scary Ashkuri is, and it's not Hex.
"I'm young, scrappy, and hungry. "Darius instantly goes back to posing and singing as Hex swats at him but slides to do it around Vasani for safety. He seems completely oblivious to anything else that is going on around him until Sajin walks up. "Oh, hey, pal. No, its fine champ we were just in the area. Least I was. You have as many fries as you want!" He attempts to give Sajin a reassuring pat on the shoulder. As Hex enters the shop it dawns on Darius. "There was an alert that went off? That is why you guys are all here? Huh." Yep. He got no message. He was just in the area. Sliding out his blaster pistol he takes up behind Hex. "SO MAD!" He echoes the green Twi'lek. Darius has your back pal.
Vasani points up toward the walls where there are marks of blaster fire, completely ignoring Darius' sick dance moves. "Uh Guys..." She peers into the shop, picking up what she can. "Looks like somethin' real bad happened in 'ere... KASIA??!!!" The Twi'lek yells into the darkness, hoping she'll respond from some hiding spot or something. "Why would someone try ta' hurt Kasia?" She asks to no one in particular, eyebrows curling up in concern.
Sajin steps forwards and looks around, knealing down on he traces his armored fingers over some of the durocrete floor tiles. "These blaster burns are new." As if it wasn't uncommon for there to be blaster burns randomly in buildings on Nar Shadda (It totally wasn't)... "Kasia just had me clean up this place a little while ago." He hasn't drawn his pistol yet as he looks up from his squating position, looking about. "I got a bad feeling about this."
"They're right. Take a look and keep your voice down, boc'ara," said Yan, slapping one hand on Hex's shoulder and pointing the other straight at the glinting shiny form of a deactivated droid lying on the ground. He was not polite today. "All of you," he hissed to the accumulated room. Why is it that Zhu Yan was the sane one today? He slid the Bryar out of its holster and walked towards the deactivated droid, carefully, eyes open. "Now if anyone has tech knowledge, could they crack this bad boy open and find out what happened?"
The droid is, in fact, in the shop, but it looks like the thing has been in a heck of a fight, because there is some serious damage to the external plating, scorch marks, gouges, and there is absolutely no response to anything. Whatever this droid knows, it's going to take an expert at accessing memories, or fixing droids, and neither option seems likely now. Then there is something else. A sound. A scraaaaaaaaape sound from the rear of the shop, the sound is metal against duracrete flooring if one were to guess, and then the low sound of murmuring voices. After a few moments there is a BANG, the sound of something heavy hitting the floor, it's also coming from behind the door, but also doesn't sound quite right? Like it's further away than it has any right to be in the back of the shop, the back room might be large, but it's not THAT large.
"Hrmm" Darius says to the all the new information, but it seems a bit of that hrmm is the realization this wasn't going to turn into an impromptu flash mob. Something bad has happened. Better luck next time Darius. As there is a scrape, a bang, and the sound of something heavy hitting the floor he raises his eye brows. Though he has no hud, light source, or low-light vision. "Perhaps those noises will give us more of a clue than this dead droid."
When the slight sound of voices is heard, Vasani tries real hard to keep quiet and listen but then- "EEP!" She jumps as the loud bang happens. "What was that? Quick! Someone go in there!" She whispers, gently placing her hand on Darius' back as to motion him into the room further. "I dunno how ta' figure out the droid, but Darius is right, seems like theres somethin' more important goin on in there... Just in case" Vasani is not the best of shots, but out her blaster comes.
Sajin stands slowly and looks towards the back where all the sound is comming from. He scans with the thermal and night vision on the HUD of his power armor, slidding up to the entrance to the back and peeking through.
The entrance to the back room is closed, but the closer Sajin gets, the more shuffling, scraping, and the low murmur of voices he can hear. There are definitely people back there, they seem to be moving things, but there isn't any power in the shop so the door doesn't open with the press of a button. It'll have to be pried open, which won't take much force, the door has SOME safety standards that allow for it to be opened in the case of an outage. Whoever is back there, they're not coming out this way.
"Who taught you to speak Ryl, you blighted toadbiscuit, you got a Huttese accent that's killing it," Hex gripes at Yan. "Leave the droid, none of us have the skills to fix it. We'd need Nyla and we don't have her." He is proceeding towards the back, looking generally aggrieved. "Nothing here is scarier than we are," he assures the group, before backing up and just straight up kicking the door. He's going to break the shit out of it, but it's his door, he's allowed. Bam! One kick! BAM! A second, and it slides free... but once it's slid to the side, it becomes clear that a shelving unit has been slid in the way, blocking the path. "For kriff's sake," Hex complains, and then applies himself to trying to push the shelves out of the way. He's able to shove it just enough so that the others can get by if they want, but he's not really in a position to see or warn what may be on the other side.
Darius feels the shove from Vasani and lowers his voice. "Stay behind me okay Spots? And try not to shoot any of our friends." He tries to position themselves in a way to get some cover, but also to view Hex, Zhu Yan and Sajin. Darius gives a glance to the entrance, wondering if anything might come in behind them and be an issue. "Hex, Sajin, Zhu Yan we have you guys covered from back here. But I can barely see shit with my weak human eyes. Some insight? " He keeps his pistol ready and waiting.
Vasani finally tip toes her way further into the darkness. Again, being cautious in her actions and taking her time to examine her surroundings. She listens to Darius, staying back and not rushing in, but she tries real hard to be quiet again to see if she hears the voices come back with her gun in the ready position in case something pops out from behind the door... or from behind them.
Sajin chuckles, "Oh you think your eyes are bad... this is just aweful for me." He's a Hapan and they did not do well in low light at all. Thankfully his helmet's HUD was helping him out a great deal. He pulls his blaster and moves his way in past Hex to 'clear' the room in a seemingly tactical fashion.
"Yeah, Hex doesn't like it when you call him fat no matter how fat he is, and he hates all humans equally so don't feel too bad if he picks on you for it." How's that for insight, Darius? Zhu Yan was always there to help! Speaking of help, he shoved his way past the huge ball of green that was Hex and into the room behind Sajin, blaster-first. TIME FOR KILL, HA HA.
BANG. BANG. SCREEEEECH. Definitely no hiding your presence now, not that there was a lot of effort made before. The shelf is heavy, but Hex is basically a beast so he's able to move it enough for people to squeeze past, even the armored people. What you find on the other side of that heavy shelving is a mess, not just because crates and inventory have been moved around, gone through, and not just because the shelving itself was moved to block the way, but because there is a literal hole in the middle of the floor. It looks as though there was some sort of tunnel beneath the shop, because of course there is, Nar Shaddaa is layers of new stuff built on top of the old, the has been busted through with some sort of... something. Explosives, maybe? It's a mess, dusty, but not as bad as you'd think. It looks like the flooring was built over a trap door of some kind, and not all that securely. Shocking that shady construction would be done here on Nar. They'll also find a couple of people here, one is a pretty large, armored, and armored Trandoshan, and the other one is smaller, also armored and helmeted, maybe human or near enough. They're both moving the shops inventory down into the tunnel beneath the shop, but as others arrive, the drop the crate they're presently carrying and reach for weapons.
"That is completely not even true you goblin-hearted liar," Hex accuses Yan. "....I don't hate all humans equally, I hate some more than others. No offense," he adds to the humans, and then brings his gun to bear again and steps out from behind the shelf, pointing his hand cannon at the intruders. There are probably some carbines smaller than that thing, but it's got a look about it like accuracy comes second to firepower. Once they're in the room with the trap door, Hex tsks, and twitches his lekku in disapproval. "Seems you've found your way to the wrong storeroom.... friends," he greets coolly. "Got to admit this has got me feelin' real, /real/ irritated, and I've spaced some stupid schuttaku for less. Like taking my leftovers. Imagine how mad I'm going to be if you're taking my crotting /weapons/? Lacking an airlock at the moment, I'm gonna have to go with the plan being murder you ugly. Unless you want to get the hell out of my sight in the next three and a half seconds. It's an option. Be quick."
"Hex never picks on me. He is always super sweet. He picks on you Zhu Yan?" Darius calls back with a tad of sympathy in his voice. Oops did he forget to whisper? This be quiet thing is hard to do. Sajin gets a nod, but then again it is dark, and Darius is behind him so the Hapan might not see it. Then he hears Hex yelling, and he jumps forward. He makes out some figures, see their reaching for guns and doesn't waste a second. Pew. Pew. He sends two shots towards the human intruder. "Last time I waited for your Twi'lek speak my fiancé got an arrow in her Green Bean! Shootin first this time pal!"
Vasani pulls up with everybody else, aiming her blaster at the intruders. She does HER VERY BEST to do a real angry face. She sure is trying. "YEAH GIT OUTTA HERE!" She yells toward the two robbers riiiight before they are now being shot at by Darius. Well maybe that'll scare them away more? "GO!! Or I'll start shootin' too! and nun a us want that!" She gives a final warning. We really don't want Vasani shooting, she's not good at this. "...Green bean?"
Sajin was waiting for them to leave. He was a nice guy and Hex was being scary. Then there was lazer blasts flying over his head and so he just ducked and took two very well places shots at each crook before stepping out of the way of the door so that the inter-species erotica couple didn't put a nice dent in his purdy armor.
"Constantly! He's so mean!" said Zhu Yan petulantly, aiming at the scaly bastard and letting the loud WHOMPH of the Bryar fill the room as it loosed a couple of full-charged bolts. He neglected to mention that Hex was mean to him because he constantly, relentlessly riled the guy up. POP went a bolt on the Trandoshan, ripping straight through the scaly man's center torso, and POP went a bolt into a small crate of what were presumably blasters. Or ammo. Oh Kasia was gonna be mad. He refrained from the whole battle banter business. He only did that when he was mad/annoyed/upset/complaining.
The human sized fella in the back room only gets so far as starting to aim his blaster at Hex when he's shot the first time by Darius, which sends him staggering back, and then again by Sajin. The weapon fires but it's a bad shot and just hits one of the crates, thankfully not explosives, and then topples back into the hole below. The sound of his body hitting the ground is almost immediate, so the hole isn't that deep. The large Trandoshan is likewise taken down, hard, first by Yan's shot which takes him in the chest, and then Sajin's which is in the head. It's an ugly way to die, but the Trandoshan hits the ground, causing dust to puff up, and then rain down around everyone in the room. Is that it? ...is it? No, there's the sound of someone else in the tunnels now, boots on gravel (or in this case shards of busted duracrete) but they don't immediately climb out of the tunnel, because that would be dumb. Instead there's the sound of something being moved, a meaty thud, and then movement away from the hole that leads up to the shop.
"If you were less garbage I'd be nicer to you! Sa'sinak boc'ara!" Hex replies to Yan, pausing a moment to smack the Walking Jacket upside the head. Whap. Then he turns around and steps over the bodies with smoking holes in 'em, courtesy of Defiance Brand <tm> Problem Solving, and down into the hole and the tunnel beyond. "Careful coming down here, ai'jouku, it's a busted mess..." Like Hex.
"What?" Darius says to Vasani still holding his blaster forward, unsure if the two had been put down. "Dislike Hex's nick name? It is a work in progress, he is the type of guy that you need a few for. Jolly Green Daddy is another favorite I'm workin with. " He edges closer waving a hand for Vasani to follow. Into the backroom he watches as Hex go down into the tunnel looking to both Zhu Yan and Sajin. "SoDo we follow or just let him figure it out? I'm still kind of new."
Vasani is glad the two of them were taken out before she had to get involved. We all know she totally would have wrecked them though. Of course. "You called him what? Nevermind" Being with Darius ya just gotta come to accept these things. "I say we follow our Jolly Green Defiance Daddy.... Nope. Can't say it. Can't take it seriously. Ya need ta think a' a better one, Dare." Headshake. She tried. She tried for him. BECAUSE SHE LOVES HIM.
Sajin reaches into a compartment on his armor and pulls out a Frag Grenade. "No need to follow..." He pulls the put, then presses the activation button. "It's like we're making human trandosian stew. Put the igrediants in and apply hear." He drops the granade down the hole and starts to walk away. "Fire in the hole..." BOOM.
Sajin is a blind fool and he didn't notice Hex go down the hole. He was also stupid.
"Ow! My hair! You son of a schutta!" complained Yan, rubbing the back of his head where the green man had MUSED HIS HAIR. "Do you know how long it takes to get it like this?" No time at all, but complaining was complaining and besides lying, it was what Yan was best at. He waved towards the hole and said, "You can follow the fool down there all you like, there's probably death and madness and wha-OH GOD!" GRENADE! Yan dove away from the hole and BOOM! Up it went! Smoke! Dust! Dirt! ERRYWHERE! "YOU BEAUTIFUL BASTARD SAJIN, WHAT IN THE NAME OF HEX'S SCHUTTA MOTHER ARE YOU DOING?!"
It's safe to say this isn't how anyone in this tunnel expected THIS to go, not the dead dude, not the person who remains down here, and probably not Hex either. The grenade goes into the hole, tink, tink, it bounces, and then BOOM. Poor Hex, RIP.
Okay, not really, the grenade landed on the other side of the corpse at the bottom of the tunnel which meant that Hex has a literal meat shield to save his life, or at least his pretty face. It doesn't spare him all the damage, but a good portion of the shrapnel imbeds in the body on the ground, the rest of the spray hitting walls of the tunnel, the crates of goods that were in the process of being stolen, all over the place. The janky ass tunnel doesn't seem to appreciate having more explosives set off in it though, as the lights that WERE on inside of it go out, followed by the sound of more bits falling off and hitting the ground. Then, without warning, the hover cart that's still doing a wibbly sort of hover goes flying right at Hex, not fast enough to do a whole lot more damage, but fast enough for the heavy load to float over, pin him against the side of the tunnel, and then deactivate. THUD. Cart is no longer floating.
Hex is down in a hole and his people threw a grenade in the same hole. That's some Defiance level planning, and really, he can't even be surprised. The folks up top can hear their boss, alarmed, start to say "Oh shi---" and then BOOOOOOM, smoke! Dust! Dirt! Hopes n dreams! Everything is eerily, distressingly quiet for the moment, then Hex coughs and they can hear an, "Aaahhh..... OW.... ow, akei ta schutta... I'M ALIVE," he yells, and then there's an 'oof!' and another "SHIT!" and a sigh. "....I'm pinned down. Come down here and kill whoever just threw a cart at me. YEAH THAT MEANS YOU," he yells into the darkness, followed by, "Ai'jouku, bring a light too, ka?"
Darius eyes light up to Vasnai. "Nah, now I think JGD just became my favorite. " As if any nickname Darius would give Hex should be taken seriously. He turns to Zhu Yan to listen and just catches Sajin throwing the grenade the tunnel. Darius eyes widen, but does he do anything to help Hex? No, of course not! Couldn't if he wanted to. Instead he jumps to Vasani wrapping his arms around her and pushing them to the floor. "SPOTS DOWN!" I will shield you with my noble future husband body! After the boom he stands back up he brushes dirt off his body. Darius then shrugs hops into the tunnel and starts blasting away at any figure that doesn't look like it has noodle brains.
Vasani is pushed to the ground as a grenade goes flying past. My hero!! "uegh" Vasani lets out a sound as she is crushed under Darius. "Thanks..." she says after he gets off her and she follows suit, getting up, wiping off dirt, and shaking her lekku around like a wet dog. Vasani then walks closer to the hole, looking down into it and trying to see anything. "A light? Don't think nows tha' time ta' be smokin', Hex!" Vasani yells down to him before jumping into the hole herself behind Darius. "YER NOT READY FER THIS!!" She screams at the mysterous bad guy, firing off her blaster and hitting absolutely nothing at all, just sending more dirt flying into the air. Great!
Sajin looks back over his shoulder as the dust clears. "Wait where the... oh..." He turns and rushes back towards the hole looking down. "Sorry, bodd I didn't see you go down there. You okay? Wait... pinned. Hold on I'll just drop another granade down, that'll take care of that bastard..." He pauses, "On second thought... Hey dirt bag... come out here and fight a real man. Or something... You know what. Stay there. Have a cup of af, I'll be right down." He hops down, turning on his wrist and helmet light and drawing his pistol once more.
"UGH," cried Zhu Yan, doing a spot-on impression of Hex's long-suffering wife. He clambered down the hole, grumbling and complaining all the while. "You guys are shockingly bad," he said, his eyes scanning the tunnel for a shady figure that wasn't Hex. He found it. BLAT went the blaster, sending a yellow bolt downrange and into the man. And BEEP went the blaster, saying 'oi wanka, you's outta ammo ya dingbat'. "Sithspit!"
The tunnel is dark now, and poor Hex is still pinned against the wall, but the light of the missed blaster fire does reveal the occasional glimpse of the other figure that's in the tunnel. Further down than it was, the tall, armored man has a weapon out and already firing. Hex takes a hit to the shoulder, painful, but not lethal. Hopefully not, he did also just get blown up. The return fire largely misses except for Yan's shot, which hits the figure in the thigh, making him stagger back so that he melts into the shadows where the lights they've brought down into the tunnels barely touch. It LOOKS like the figure might be retreating. Maybe? It's hard to be certain.
Hex just got in the tunnel, then he got exploded and hit by a cart. Then with Sajin's help, he JUST got free of the cart, in time to get SHOT. Hit bad in the shoulder, enough to knock him back a step with a hiss of pain and a cursed, "Witchtits! Seriously? SERIOUSLY?" There's more light in the space now thanks to Sajin and Vasani (warming it also with the glow of Vasani magic <3) and he can see that thief retreating. Now he's mad. Angry, angry green bean. "I AM HAVING," he raises the pistol, "THE WORST," BOOM, that looks like it hurt, "EVENING," BOOM, ouch again, "EVER." The gun lowers, Hex stands there and bleeds, then sits on the cart and yells down the tunnel, "You owe me everything I had to pay my goddess damned babysitter!"
"We are just having a bit of foreplay first! Don't wanna pop them off too early Zhu!" Darius says to the remark about Vasani and his shooting skills. There are no excuses though. They were bad shots. Mr. Intruder didn't have to be ready for the crew of the Spectre cause there was nothing to be ready for. "You tell JGD!" Darius says to Hex then starts popping off again with his blaster, widely missing.
She didn't hit the first time, but boy will she ALSO not hit them this time!! "AAAAAAGHH!!" Vasani takes aim, giving their enemy a very aggressive battle cry and letting off another two shots. Very angery Twi'lek. Yep. Nothin' was hit. "You okay, Hex?" She turns to him after attempting to shoot the intruder to check on her injured bossfriend. "How the shoulders doin'?"
Sajin moves to the side as others come down and send two shots in the direction of the retreating buff armor dude. "Hey... ya sissy!" He ducks as some return fire comes back.
A blaster bolt whizzed past Zhu Yan's ear enough to leave it ringing as he walked towards the retreating armored figure, popping the power cartridge out of the Bryar and slipping another one in. Ladies. With murder in his eyes and ill intent in his heart, he aimed the Bryar downrange and fired. Probably not the best idea. He couldn't see too well, and the guy was blending in. His shots illuminated the corridor but failed to score traction, though one did slip directly between the man's legs. A little higher and he would have lost all success with his lover of choice.
The figure retreats, and retreats, and then gets far enough out of the light that he's all but invisible, even for those with special vision, or helmets that assist. The bounty hunter is gone, and should anyone follow, it's hard to tell just where he went. These tunnels slowly start to slope downward, down to those horrifying parts of Nar Shaddaa where the most dangerous and desperate lurk, and then the tunnels branch out, splitting off in different directions. It's an actual maze of dead ends, ends that are deadly, and few obvious ways out. And now Defiance has a fun new task, someone is going to have to stand guard over the hole in the ground until someone can repair it.
As the dust settles, the door to the shop opens, and there's a familiar voice. "Hello?" It's Kasia, and about thirty seconds later.
"WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SHOP?!"
