Log:Courkrus: We must board them!
The Final Fight Against the Invid Pirates
OOC Date: June 9th 2023
Location: Courkrus
Participants: Amaia Dara, Terek Rosol, Zena Tane, Wun Numb and Hadrix Kora as GM
A meeting hall for the Mynock Hotel that might normally be rented out for the small festival functions that those in the city might seek to celebrate without having to clean up their own home. Guided to by Amaia while alarms in the hotel were screaming, set off by a slicing misadventure by the Shistavanean now hustling to avoid capture.
At least part of the assault team.
"They've in handled, I'm hungry." the captain of the Invids sat at the head of the long central table in the room, a dozen of their officers, the Dashade looming despite being seated, fists clenched. "They're either in the city and are being hunted, or we'll find them in the farmlands." wet voice rasping as his fist slams down. The others at the table sharing nervous looks but saying nothing.
"We deal with them, we send a message and we get their gear. Maybe find out how to use their precious metal for our own."
Outside there had been others, Zena who had been on overwatch. Hadrix who had been leading some of the pirates on a merry chase. But the situation stood now where the team, pared down to fewer and fewer by the mission, culminates now with the team inside and the pair without.
<<"Zena'alor... when we go in, we'll be going in fast. Be ready for me to throw you in once we're past the windows.">> Hadrix's voice on comms, where he hunkers near the Alor of clan Kloo. Looking at the broad windows that allow a spectacular view of a crummy area of town. <<"Ready?">>
If it was beskar these pirates were hoping to find, they would not find it with or on the ship's gunner who was not making her way through the hotel, marking locations, thanks to the now running slicer, for the actual demo guy, whom she hoped was still behind her, to do what he did best. Well. Alright, she did not know the man barely at all. So let's go with...at least reasonably well. <<"Marking the ordinance locations. Going to see if I can get eyes on the leaders." This, at least, Mai could do. She was a pirate hunter. So, Mai was ahuntin'.
Inside of the hotel proper, Terek Rosol has moved into position near the door that opens into the conference room where the leadership has been set up. From behind his back he pulls the small E-11 sized rifle and flicks it on, the small plasma pilot light burning at the end of the barrel.
<"On your signal, Zena'alor."> He chimes, waiting for her to give the signal, and ready to torch the entire room if given the chance. Not needing them alive always simplifies things to the hunter.
The tiniest Mando (on this mission) has done great overwatch. The best overwatch. That sniper rifle she packs is scary, and she's pretty damn good with it. Sadly, for this next part, the rifle won't be as useful as it was to pick off people from ... many meters away.
She rolls her neck, as she runs a final check on the vambrace on her left arm, the weapon mingling oddly with the shiny Beskar.
<<"Goorar meh!">>
Wun has his carbine out, and waits for the others to move. He trained on the carbine by shooting Haroots back on Sullust, but it turns out he's good at shooting targets that shoot back too. He is dressed in an armored brown jumpsuit with many pockets. A large spanner wrench hangs on his left hip, a vibro-dagger on his right. A fanny medpac is also on his hip. A wide brim brown fedora casts his face in shade. He triggers his comm, <"Ready">, and nods to Zena
A sullustan under one arm and a mandalorian under the other as he leans forward to fall off of their roof, Hadrix carries the others with while Gripper, in her socket, runs numbers and the big man rasps out over comms, <<"Mai, Terek, we're on our way.">> that's a way to put it.
"I want their ships, their equipment, they're on Courkrus, that means they belong to me!" the Dashade captain is on his feet so suddenly that the others at the table looked like they were readying to leap for cover or sink below it. Wide eyed and watchful as Borerull snarled. Picking up a mug and draining it in several gulps.
"Cap'n?" One of the present pirates speaks, worried in tone, looking towards the window when jet contrails becoming visible through the glass. Ignored for the moment, and clearing their throat, the near-human half-stands again, "Cap?"
"WHAT!?"
Jets cutting as they near, Hadrix rolls forward in what feels like a fraction of a second before impact - using his armor to absorb the impact as the trio strike at speed and go through, landing on top of Al'Verde Kora who continues to roll and thrust Wun and Zena to their feet while he recovers.
<"Nynir!"> Strike.
Alright. So...they were not going to simply detonate the hotel around the pirates. She could work with that. Well, as soon as she got her gear stowed away. Thankfully, the vambrace did not need to be removed from anything, and as Hadrix made his grand entrance, Mai popped up from the balcony where she had been observing, firing off a shot which went wide, but, well, perhaps it might distract them from the incoming trio (well two of them), and give them time to get into position.
Well, Terek did ask for the signal. The sound of the window being smashed through would probably count as a signal. He taps the panel on the door he had been behind, which whooshes open as he sweeps through the door, his poncho billowing around him as the 38CT fires, a gout of flame launching across the room towards the captain, as Terek sweeps the flames across the room, hoping he can catch anything between himself and the pirates on fire, stepping through.
<"That's one way to get their attention, boss!"> Terek calls out to Hadrix, advancing into the room, letting off the trigger to let the flames clear and plan his next move.
It is never, ever a dull day when you're palling around with Hadrix. The big man (who claims he isn't that big but almost everyone is vastly larger than Zena) is a font of focused action and violence.
She's always glad that he's on her team.
She tucks in just before impact, only uncoiling herself when she's released, getting on her feet and lifting her arm. She takes as careful aim as she can, only for a piece of rubble from the wrecked wall falling to bonk her on the head, making her shot go wide.
She swears violently, staggering to one side and moving to try and find what cover she can.
Wun lands, staggers and grumbles as he snaps off two quick shots. Both go wide. One goes a hand width near Zena, but thankfully misses her. It goes past and does dreadful damage..to the wall. Wun sighs, loudly, and looks for some cover. <<"If you're going to carry me through a window, some warning'd be nice.">>
<"Figured it was obvious when we were flying through the air."> right arm up as Hadrix rises from his kneeling posture and begins to move to one side, smoke pouring from the vambrace, intended to wreathe the officers in it - were it not for the air handling system and wind from the broken window making his plan go awry.
The table a scattering of plates and cups and falling chairs when those present stand, now joining their captain in reaching for weaons, several of them quick hands to get blasters in hand. Turning and hunting for cover while opening fire on the attackers bursting, quite literally, into the room.
"Get them! Get them! GET THEM!" crimson tibanna bolts screaming in all directions and more calls go up - shouting into commlinks or at the attacking force in general.
You know, Mai should complain about being shot, but, well, she almost always got shot. It was why she had learned to work through the pain. <<"Surely there's a more efficient way to eliminate these pirates than picking them off one at a time.">> So spake Mai Dara, as she did indeed...pick one off, at a time, popping up from where she was still on the balcony to fire down into the crowd. Thankfully, she got the one who got her. Small blessings.
Terek advances, pulling the trigger on his flamethrower again as he approaches the captain, only to manage to catch a shot to his leg from one of the pirates off to the side who managed to get a weapon drawn. Terek grunts in pain, stumbling to one side as his blast of flame shoots harmlessly into the air above his target.
He grumbles to himself, dropping the flamethrower back onto its sling under his poncho, after turning off the pilot light. No sense in lighting himself on fire.
Wun has seen two of his teammates get shot. He's angry, and fires off two shots at the captain. One almost hits, but sadly both miss. Wun curses, and dives for an overturned table to get some cover.
Shot, forced to fall back and hissing through his lamprey like mouth the Captain's arm is up with a wrist mounted blaster extending and a staccato line of plasma launches whilst the dashade sprints to the side opposite the majority of the attackers. Intending to put down the Mandalorian who shot him, snarling all the while, "DON'T JUST STAND THERE! GET THEM!"
Smoke still spraying from the Massive Mandalorian's bracer, following the sullustan's movements, the pirates at the table are forced to scatter or fire from the screen blocking their vision and the majority of them opt to move - getting clear and one of them being blown out of one of their boots when the slug pistol goes off like a thunderbolt.
Thumbing the hammer of the revolver in hand, Hadrix moves to use his armor for the benefit of Wun, nodding slightly before declaring, <"Keep your head down,"> looking to the others in the room and making a snap decision while already tabulating movement and potential firing lines, having Gripper relay data via comms.
Only four of the pirates have the nerve to fire, much of that haphazard and chaotic with the screen up before them - crimson bolts spattering against the walls and one shattering another of the windows.
Pirates were like snakes. Anyone in Clan Dara, one of the most spacefaring of spacefaring Mandalorian Clans could tell you that. And as with any snake, cutting off the head had a way of reducing or, if you were very lucky, eliminating the problem. Seeing the Deshade pirate leader calling for blood and drawing more than a little of his own, Mai popped back up, looking a bit like one of those toys where you cranked the handle until the scary clown popped up, popped up, firing at the largest target on the creature, which was his big fat head. The shot from her vambrace laser hit the Deshade right in the mouth, and the body fell backwards, missing most of what used to be his cranium, the body obscured, sadly, by the smoke still swirling in the air.
Zena gets hit! Oh no! She recoils as the blaster bolt pegs her in the torso. Armor means she won't die, but that smarts. She ducks back down, clutching her wound for a moment as she catches her breath.
Sadly, this means she misses Mai vaporizing the captain's head.
She crawls a bit to reposition, bolts whizzing by her before she pops up again. Sadly, a spasm of pain makes her aim go wide, putting another hole in the wall.

Terek's flamethrower vanishes behind his poncho as he pulls his W-35 from under it, firing a quick shot at one of the pirate officers after he sees the captain go down with most of his head missing from above his neck.
He pushes forward, trying to close the distance with the pirate he just attacked, figuring acloser attack will give him more than enough chance to finish that guy off.
Wun's leg is hurting him, and throwing off his aim. Or at least that is what he tells himself as yet two more shots go wild. He curses, then remembers Had's instruction and ducks down behind the table.
The captain falling breaks the nerve of a handful of the remaining officers, those in the smoke unaware of the circumstances and one brave soul outside of it trying to take down one of the Mandalorians whose wounds are beginning to mount.
"Rekk this!" one declares, sprinting for the door with two others trailing after - trying to get out before they get shot down, ducking and calling out when blaster bolts continue to fly and the crash of slug fire filling the room with onset tinnitus for the unlucky.
Seeing aim swinging her way, Hadrix charges towards Zena, smoke still rising from his gun barrel and his free arm rising to curl into an impromptu shield when bolts come his way, burning a the edge of his greave and scorching the big man's calf as he gets into position.
Smoke beginning to clear, the four that had been stymied by it calling out in shock at the sight of the fallen captain, two moving to try for a side table to flip over for impromptu cover.
Mai Dara, despite the fact that she was, in point of fact, a high flyer, was not, generally, the sort to fly and shoot. Turrets tended to keep you on the ground. But, alas, no turrets here, and enemy on the move, and so, she kicked off from where the had been popping up, jetpack igniting on her back as she moved into drone position, aiming at one of the pirates attempting to make for the door. Pile a few bodies up there? Nobody was getting out. She did manage to hit, causing a stumble, but he did not go completely down. Alas.
Terek continues to exchange fire with the remaining pirates. Their resolve is breaking for some of them. When Mai manages to land a shot on one of them, Terek turned his weapon towards that same pirate who had been tagged, trying to fire his way, golden blaster bolts sailing wide, as he curses to himself at pain from the wound from his leg when he returns to cover.
Zena gets shot. Again. It's really unpleasant. It's an arm this time, but she gets some help. In the meantime, though, she just gets mad. Really, really mad.
The bracer powers down, and she reaches over her shoulder to pull the massive rifle. The bipod flicks out and she goes prone on the floor.
Yes, she is going to try and blast legs off.
As Wun pops up and whiffs twice in succession, one of the pirates...does not. The pirate blasts Wun's right arm, which now hangs useless until it gets treated, his rifle clattering to the floor. Wun follows to the floor, blacking out for a moment, then coming to. He will attempt to treat himself, albeit one handed.
<<"Believe me, I know.">>
Blaster bolts bouncing off of him, jamming a stim syringe with a bacta infusion into Zena's side, Hadrix gives her a nod as he holds to provide living cover, kneeling while she gets her rifle out. <"It's one of those days, eh vod?"> grunting as another shot ricochets off of his back, lifting his revolver again to check the cylinder with a grunt.
One injured and three pelting down the hall away from the gun battle that continues to rage, the last five of the pirates continue to pop from behind their upended table, firing in groups, trying to keep from having all of their number out in the open for a semblance of tactical cohesion that is flummoxed by Amaia's maneuvering to attack from odd angles.
"Where'd they go?!" one calls, looking to the door.
"They left us!"
"Filthy... PIRATES!"
Mai continued to maneuver, jetpack flaring as she bobbed and weaved. There was very little room to maneuver in an enclosed hall, but she did the best she could with what she had to work with. Much like being on a ship, where you learned how to think around corners. In this case, she took advantage 9say sorry, Terek!) of the fact that fire appeared to be concentrating on the Cathar, to fire at the pirate who she had vented her displeasure at before, the body dropping back behind the flipped up table he had been using for cover.
From her position on the floor, Zena tries to shoot at the goons behind the table.
It doesn't work.
What does happen is that a big hunk of the table is blasted to smoking splinters by the ludicrously powerful sniper rifle. So that's cool, right?
Wun fumbles with the medpac, and realizes that hey, these things aren't idiot-proof, as he's just proven. In a fit of frustration, he whiips out his vibrodagger and throws it at a pirate. It sticks into table near the pirate, mortally wounding the table, or so Wun imagines. Other than possibly being startled, it does nothing to the pirate. Wun is now severaly wounded, out of weapons he can use, and cursing up a storm.
As the number of pirates still alive (or at least still willing to put up a fight) dwindles, Terek pushes out of his covered position, rapidly double tapping one of the still standing pirate lieutenants, a Rodian getting split right between his antennae.
A moment later a bolt ricochets off of Terek's helmet, knocking him for a loop and sending him sprawling to the ground with a heavy thump of metal.
Desperate times...
So many of their number have been getting blasted and the Sullustan is dropping with Terek following suit, <"Kriff...">
The smoke from his vambrace is unneeded at this point with how heavy it grows in the wake of weapons being fired so copiously and the fires being set off by shots that go wide from either side.
Mai's circling and the size of the hole that Zena puts in the table forces the trio that remain after Terek's assault to run from their present cover - one calling out a little too shrilly when the vibro-dagger strikes, blade tip stuck through where his back had been moments before.
Back to kneeling, barrels extending a trio of rockets are launched in short succession, hissing across the room to strike one pirate after another. Hurling them from their feet with two barely conscious with the explosives cracking armor and burning flesh. The third is rendered headless from the rocket dart sinking into their temple before detonating.
But the room is clear at least. It looks like a warzone. But it's clear.
With the rest of the bodies falling, Mai dropped down, the jetpack cutting off a moment before her feet touched the ground. There was still a bit of twitching going on, for what that was worth, and Mai got to work with the cleanup process. The laser was retracted into her left vambrace, the dagger snicking out from the right. She used the dagger like a punch blade. Take a knee, grab the back of the head, drive the blade down through the spinal column. They had killed one pirate leader. There was no place for laving the possibility of any of these rising to take their position.
After things settle down, Terek rises up from where he'd been knocked down after the shot to the head. Ears ringing, head ringing, he leans one hand against the wall nearby, <"That rekking hurt."> He says, sighing faintly as he puts his weapon away.
After a few moments, he starts moving away from the wall after the world stops spinning, only for it to start it again and cause him to stumble and then slump back against the wall, <"I'll be fine. I need a minute."> He says in that tone that tells Hadrix he at least thinks that he'll be okay.
Things start to die down. This is good. The fire ends, and most of the pirates are toast. Zena remains prone for another moment, letting the bacta infused stim do its job a bit more before she rises. She folds the bipod and shoulders the massive rifle onto her back again, looking around at the carnage.
<"I love this job.">
At least she didn't get shot in the head.
A stream of invectives comes from behind a table. The monologue is remarkable not just for its range of vocabulary, but for the breadth of the languages. Huttese, basic, Ryl, Sullestese, all there and fluently. <<"Um, folks I am going to need some help.">>, says Wun over comms as he attempts to stagger up, slowly and using his rifle as a cane.
